Hunters is about some Nazi hunters in the late 70's in New York City that find out that there are hundreds of high ranking Nazi officials that are living among them. The hunters then go hunt them down and bring justice to them and also stop their new genocidal plans. I really wasn't sure what to expect from Hunters with all the mixed reviews, I've never seen a show so split between people liking it or not. After watching season 1, I thought it was a pretty good show that was absolutely worth watching! Now after finishing season two it became even that much better. Season two was fantastic. I don't understand what some of these negative reviewers wanted? There's plenty of action, comedy, drama, mystery, twists, etc., to please most people. It's too bad it was only two seasons long but at least it didn't go out with a cliffhanger.

Pretty fun show
Supermanfan-1312 December 2023
Hunters was actually a pretty fun show. I was looking forward to seeing this after watching the trailers and seeing that Al Pacino was involved but then after reading so many mixed reviews my expectations tempered a bit. Well, after really enjoying the first season I was for season two, I'm about halfway through right now and it's even better than the first. It's too bad that they're only doing two seasons overall but that might actually be perfect for a show like this. You don't want it to overstay its welcome and hang around just for the sake of hanging around. Id definitely recommend if you haven't seen this yet, just give yourself enough time because you're going to want to binge it.

An ok-ish series, except the 7th episode of 2nd season, which is pure genius
Grey_rainbow18 January 2023
If you can suspend the most basic common sense and stop wondering why not a single agent of CIA, Brits, Mossad, KGB, etc. Ever turn up, not even at the very end, you can enjoy the show, although with a bit of help from the fast forward button in some sappy parts.

But, buried deep inside this mediocre series, there is a gem, a brilliant episode that shines bright and stands so tall on its own that I believe most of those who have watched it will call it one of the greatest episodes of TV in the last couple of years- The Home, the 7th episode of 2nd season. If the entire show had that tone, vibe, atmosphere, and those Wes Anderson-ish colors/symmetries, the series would have been an instant classic. Do not miss that episode. One can even watch it without watching anything preceding it as it's a stand-alone episode (though you will see a big spoiler at the very end).

So, for the uneducated
valiantprince31 December 2022
1. Those of us who lived through the 70s can attest: YES. The clothes, the cars, the hair and sideburns, YES they were really that over the top. In hindsight, it all looks ridiculous, but even the executives in my Dad's branch of General Electric were sporting the polyester leisure suits, the gold chains dancing in their chest hair, and those godawful white patent leather shoes and belts. I'd go into home devote and the peak of avocado appliances, but the memories are just too horrifying.

2. For those who keep asking, "What's with all the comic book references?" Do you not know where when and how the superhero comic genre was born? Just take a look at the names of the originators: Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, Will Eisner, Jack Kirby (born Jacob Kurtzberg), and Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber). All Jews who began publishing their stories with the rise of the Third Reich. A people who needed very much to believe in good people with extraordinary ability to right the world's wrongs. The parallel is brilliant.

Am I watching the same show?
andrewlever062 March 2020
I've read some really negative reviews on here I'm not sure why. I'll admit they could've and should've dialed down the schmaltzy accents a bit but other than that I've really enjoyed it. The Tarantino references are more homage than plagiarism I feel. Well worth watching.

fantastic show

I was very surprised by this show, when I saw the trailer I thought that it would another Nazi theme series, so I was hesitant to start watching it, but after the 1t episode, I wa hooked. The actors are incredible good, Al Pacino deserves all the praises but all the other actors nailed the performances as well. I loved every single episode, even the bad guys are really good. The dialogs are witty and funny when needed or dramatic and intelligent. I hope Amazon continues to bring shows of this level of quality in the future. Congrats to all involved. I can't wait for more.

Little too silly for me.
horrorgasm21 February 2020
Look, I'm not a Trump supporter so just forget about that right now. No politics involved here, I just don't think this show is very good. The Nazis are such over the top cartoon supervillains that it's hard to take them at all seriously. This is made painfully clear from the very first extremely over the top scene. The tone is all over the place. Sometimes it seems like they're going to take the subject matter very seriously, but more often than not it starts leaning into a weird mix of comic book movie (and no I don't have a problem with comic book movies) and some kind of weird parody of exploitation films. It's all very campy, over the top, and packed with comic book references for some reason. The protagonist kid's introductory story even feels like a superhero origin story.

I don't know, I guess I was just expecting something more serious here. Something dark and disturbing like Mindhunters. This feels more like some producer at Amazon said "people loved The Boys. Let's make it more like that!" and it just doesn't feel like it fits with this subject matter. Sorry, it's not for me *shrug*

The First Scene
kh-174389 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Nazis were here, and were completely assimilated into the corn belt of America. I went to high school with their children, and we always knew about their sponsorship from the "old country" after the war. Every summer we all went to a cookout or two, and heard their recipes and stories about the displacement camp, and we all just never asked too many questions. Just mostly why our small town when anywhere else sounded better. It seemed the family had barely escaped with their lives and we were grateful for them.

And now the Nazis in our town are dead twenty years now, and they won't ever be deported or tried, and the dad was buried with his Nazi medals. That act by his children is a lack of caring and sensitivity, and a slap in the face of decency: the medals should have been destroyed, but we would not know who the parents really were if they had destroyed the medals.

And now my grandchildren are born, and have two hundred relatives listed on Yad Vashem's website and this whole thing with the Nazis really being here in Podunk, America is really too much to process.

I thought of all of this during the first scene where Dylan Baker, with bloodshot eyes, chillingly tells the woman who has identified him "We're here now. Everywhere."

Okay you ruined it...

Warning: Spoilers
MAJOR SPOILERS * * * * Reviewing the first series before I try the second because I got so p***** off with the last episode. So this won't be my most articulate or in depth review as atm I'm just angry that I feel I've wasted 11 odd hours of my life!

The first 2 episodes were great and it was okay until near the end of the series when it got really good and then the 11th episode totally messed it all up.

I didn't mind Eva Braun and Hitler being revealed, I actually thought that was quite obvious but still a good plot twist.

But the whole Meyer is actually the wolf and all that stuff was utterly stupid all that hard work completely undone for some stupid plot twist that makes no sense Whatsoever, I'm guessing his death was also so Pacino didn't have to film series 2, but I'm pretty sure he's In the advertisements, so that probably means more F-ing flashbacks!

Really enjoyed it but just watch it until they blow up the building and crash off the bridge and imagine it finishes there, because honestly you'll just end up being as annoyed as me!

Fantastic - I loved this
peeone21 February 2020
I'm binging a lot of TV at the moment as I recover from surgery. Watch the ads for this and waited for it to drop... half way through episode 8 and I haven't stopped watching... it is great television and a great cast. It is a bit violent though so be warned for that. Oh and I don't give a stuff about political leanings I watch tv to escape... this did the job!

Not bad...but often not very good.
bbosma-2440320 January 2023
Major things happen...on a train, in the streets, in the city...and nobody seems to notice. People who should be a lot older if they were actually important Germans from WW2 still seem to be in their prime in the late 1970s. Too many of the political issues and woke ideas of the 2000s are prominent too many years earlier. There are regular issues with continuity and people do endlessly illogical things. Okay, the end surprised me (I've only seen the first series and I'm nor rushing to watch season 2) but even that, while intriguing, didn't really add up. But I've watched worse and I probably will watch the second season.

Is season 1 and season 2 the same show?
rbarrans21 January 2023
I was really into season 1 and couldn't wait for season 2. Then it was like Al Pacino couldn't be scheduled for production, or the writers changed and they didn't bother to look at the first season. Or maybe they decided to take it in such a weird direction that the only thing to keep the interest was that it had to sooner or later come back to the original premise. What a shame, this had the potential of being such a great series. If you haven't watch "The Man in the High Tower," go watch it and save yourself from this dreadful disappointment. I did finish all the episodes, but honestly it was painful to see such a huge pivot from season 1 to season 2.

Season 1 way better than season 2
flOrlando17 February 2023
I quite enjoyed season 1, and would rate it at 7-8. I thought it was well done, thought provoking etc. I was quite looking forward to season 2. Season 2 was disappointing, almost from the beginning I had to push myself to watch. There are many episodes that have way too many guns, and shooting - likely to try to appeal to a certain audience, that is not me. (it was like a Rambo action movie or full metal jacket - except not in times of war, to the point it became ridiculous). Only a few episodes of season 2 stood out to me (eg the house). I gave up in the end as couldn't focus and it became an effort in the end. Al Pacino does a good job though.

The Boys meets The Boy With Striped Pajamas
spenserpollard28 February 2020
Where to even begin. What a fantastic display of writing and story telling. About the fifth episode in I realized this might be one of the best tv shows I have ever seen. From the darkness of the death camps to the light of revenge this show truly has everything you could possibly want. The wittiness, characters, and heart warming moments make this a true and blue tv show for the people of america. HOLY COW. I can't even gather my thoughts writing this. What. A. Damn. Show. The only downside of it all is that I have to wait probably a year for another season. Truly a shame.

Could have been so much more
darrel07623 February 2020
This show could have been a quality drama series to be taken seriously. Instead we have a drama/ comedy which isn't really funny or serious. I'm not woke or triggered. I prefer shows with violence, foul language and nudity, but even with all of it , it's missing something. The story is not compelling. The idea is great, so is the cast. This one just didnt work.

Warning: Spoilers
So the main guy is like 18 to 20 in the show in 1977. His grandparents got out of the camps in 1945. His mother is dead but does not say her age? So at what age was his mother when she had him if she was born in 1946?

Definitely A Binge Worthy TV Series
dee_hunter7822 February 2020
Binge the whole first season and it was awesome. I loved the format, the plot and cast crew. The acting was on point plus there was never a dull episode at all. Trust me it's a must see TV series, with action, mystery and depth to it.

Started strong, ended average
Hallelujah28928 February 2020
The first couple episodes of Amazon Prime Original series "Hunters" really wowed me. I appreciated the mix of chilling, somber sobriety about the terrible deeds of the Holocaust (though the director went to some effort to create fictional Holocaust events in lieu of real historical ones) and the kind of funky elements of the over the top 70s America. I thought the mix was something never seen before, although the flavor of it was much like Tarantino films. I got "Inglorious Bastards" vibes several times.

While me enjoyment of these elements together persisted throughout several episodes, the grating personalities of several of the actors (why does Jonah curse so much? What's the deal with Joe? What does Roxy even do?) really started to wear me out, and much of the commercial-like inserts didn't do much for me at all. I questioned their humor as well as their content and their delivery. By some time it felt like I couldn't get behind the main characters or their mission anymore. There wasn't much attempt at nuance for the German side and it shouldn't have been ok for the deaths to happen as they did, either for the characters or for us as viewers. I wish there was more dialogue about it.

Unfortunately "Hunters" did feel like a transplant of 2020 values and liberal attitudes onto 1970s dressed characters. Because of this many character dynamics lost dramatic tension and resolved themselves too easily. Actually much of the series was resolved too easily. Jonah solves puzzles without any effort st exactly the right moment. Twists happen just when they need to in the season. People stay alive who probably shouldn't. Lots of plots folded like houses of cards.

Throughout all this though, Al Pacino was stellar. He brought a believability to his character and stabilized most of the others. I wish there was a stronger antagonist for him to play against.

The assassin for the Nazis named Travis was an interesting character. It also felt like he didn't have a proper rival. I wish he did.

Decent show. Good visuals. Good soundtrack. Questionable morals, inconsistent tone, too much cliche. Highly original, sometimes wonderfully dynamic but too much flatlining to be great. Such great materials and many very good attempts to use them, but not quite as well thematically polished as I wish it would be.

Season One was good.
bachac-3943114 January 2023
I watched season one when it was originally screened and really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to Season Two.

What a let down this turned out to be !

I gave it half an hour but got fed up with the jumping backwards and forwards in time randomly, but worse still was the reliance on it suddenly being a vehicle for sex scenes every five minutes instead of a decent story ... why does every programme have to go down the route of titillation and soft porn ... if the writers rely on this for their audience to tune in, instead of decent plots then forget about it ... gave up and watched something more entertaining.

Seriously worth watching. Check it out ASAP

Warning: Spoilers
The most important scene in a TV show or miniseries is the opening 5 minutes. If the opening scene doesn't intrigue or invest you, chances are that they'll check out before the season finale. Thankfully Hunters was terrific from the get go. Hunters is fantastic.

It does also treat it's subject matter rather well and it is quite sad at times. Hunters is a fantastic show. It genuinely amazed me. The show is around 10 hours and a half, and i was genuinely invested through all of it. There is very little down time. It's superbly written and everything in this season was A-Grade quality especially the story. It hooks you from the opening 5 minutes to a really great ending

The performances are fantastic but the two standouts for me were Al Pacino, who hasn't given many great performances recently. But after this, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Irishman, I think he is back on track. Logan Lerman was surprising aswell, he is so good here.

Hunters is seriously worth the time. It has great characters, story arcs, violence, and it's superbly directed. I know there will be people who will complain about the little things but please don't, no point hating shows, just because it disagrees with your ideologies.
