Doctor Beeching's influence hits Kembleford.

Kembleford's train station is at risk of closure, but a murder halts proceedings.

I really enjoyed this episode, it feels fresh, vibrant, it has lots going on, and it's of course bonkers.

The story itself is smart, there's a touch of cleverness about it, it all unfolds well. A great set of well rounded characters, some time e performances. Sophie Rival gives a standout performance as Julia Webb, her facial expressions and delivery I thought were excellent.

This episode also gains points for having the glorious Doreen Mantle, an actress I grew fond of for her time on One foot in the Grave, at 92 she still has immaculate timing and an unmistakable voice, she added a touch of class.

Touches of humour, and the world's quickest delivery added a lighter touch, all in all this one is great.

The Kembleford Dragon

Mrs McCarthy has gone to the train station to pick up a new cleaner, all the previous ones do not measure to her standards. The new girl is a little bit dim to say the least.

Just at the same time the local station master Ben Webb has a heart attack as he gets news from the man from the railways, Deepak Chatterjee that Kembleford station is due to close, despite winning prizes for its flowerpots. The rail services is to be replaced by the local bus company.

Some time later at an event to keep the rail station open, Ben Webb is found dead. Mr Chatterjee is a convenient suspect. Chatterjee tells Father Brown that despite his girth and untidiness, Ben Webb was a womaniser.

I rather liked this episode more than the preceding one. A nice mystery to it with several suspects, some nice humour and a bonus to see Doreen Mantle (Mrs Warboys from One Foot in the Grave.)

Pandora's Box

Warning: Spoilers
Jessie Cave plays the apparently dimwitted Pandora Pott, and she's not what she seems. All credit to the writing team as they weave in Pandora in a pivotal part of the episode in a twist I didn't see coming for a daytime TV program. Anyway, Inspector Mallory asked a politically incorrect question about the ethnicity of Deepak Chatterjee, and how an Indian could be in British Railways. Nowadays Mallory would probably ask how an Indian could be in 10 Downing Street, such is his political correctness and all that init.

Nick Owenford, Richard Price, Jayne Smith, and Dave Wilson make uncredited appearances.

Warning: Spoilers
The sixth season of "Father Brown" has been up and down for me. "The Tree of Truth" was okay, "The Jackdaw's Revenge" a very good one. "The Kembleford Dragon" is a very intriguing title for a show like "Father Brown". It's sad though that the story leaves one cold.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values can not be flawed as usual. "The Kembleford Dragon" is very well shot and the music's wonderful too. The cast does a relatively decent job. Jessie Cave 's enjoyable and Sophie Duvall's performance is agreed captivating. I do not personally think Duvall gave an outstanding performance, but she certainly didn't do bad.

. The script has some spark with lovely humor and some red herrings.

But "The Kembleford Dragon" fell on its nose a lot harder than "The Tree of Truth" in my opinion.

. The story of this episode was not very interesting for me. I often lost my interest, because there are some very obvious clues and twists.

. Also, how the body was found, I thought was quite abrupt. There are times in "The Kembleford Dragon" where it seems likr there is missing information or scenes needed to tell the story fluently. How the murderer does the deed I thought was quite stupid too ( drowning a man with flower water) and there is very few intrigue here.

Overall, an average, let-down of an episode.
