Maika is a friendly girl but for some reason everybody thinks she is a sadist!
Tweekums1 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Maika Sakuranomiya is a seemingly ordinary high school girl; she has one problem though; when she smiles it looks more scary than friendly. She manages to but this to her advantage though as a friend gets her a job at Café Stile; an establishment where each of the staff has a distinct personality... she is the 'sadist'. She tries being nice to customers but they feel see is being insulting and treating them like dirt... and they love it! The other staff include the blond Italian manager, Dino, who has a crush on the oblivious Maika; Mafuyu, who plays the 'younger sister despite being 21; Miu, the older sister; Hideri, a boy who dresses as a female idol; and Koyo, the chef.

This was a really enjoyable series with plenty of really funny moments and some great characters. Maiku is a good protagonist with an accidentally hilarious character. Over the course of the series Maiku and her friends provide plenty of laughs while the characters still seem real. I like that the characters are more than just the stereotypes they play at the café; away from work they usually see each other as the people they are rather than the parts they play... although Maiku's 'sadistic' smile does sometimes fool them in an amusing way. Overall I'd recommend this to fans of slice of life comedies with an interesting but not too unusual setting.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

I'm just here for the memes

I mean, literally. The only reason why it become popular was the OP, which is still great. However, if you stay for a little longer, you will realise that the anime is actually a good comedy with dumb but lovely characters. The jokes are funny and the show luckily doesn't take itself seriously. I can only recommend it.

Like this adorable funny anime
Irishchatter8 October 2018
I actually love seeing Dino and Makia's realtionship blossom even if she's still a high schooler and he's probably left school (maybe). Although we don't see a kiss but we see them sorta smitten with each other! The rest of the crew were cool too. I never expected to see young girls in anime work as cafe maids with different characteristics they have to play for customers. Even though Makia is not at all sadistic, she does look grim when she puts on the scary look and turns on Dino (creepy) whenever she does it lol

I really like this anime despite the other comments on here. It's very nicely cutesy and great for laughs!

Forgettable
robinsonaustin-0749030 March 2018
One anime I had watched last year was called Blend S. It is about a 16-year-old girl named Maika who is hoping to get a part-time job so that she can earn enough money to study abroad. She comes from a traditional Japanese family, as in a VERY traditional Japanese family, but she eventually got bored by it. The only issue? Maika has the misfortune of having a naturally scary looking look in her eyes. After searching for a job here and there, she winds up working at a restaurant named Stile which is managed by an Italian man named Dino who is an uber otaku. He immediately takes a liking for her because of her naturally black hair and cutesy appearance, and she appoints her with playing the part of the sadist. Yeah, it's that kind of restaurant where the waitresses would be playing the parts of character types. There's Kaho, a gamer girl who plays a tsundere, Mafuyu a short 21 year old woman who plays the little sister, Miu an author who plays the part of the older sister, and Hideri, who's a trap. You also have Akizuki, the cook who is very passionate on yuri.

With the show, I do admit that overall, it is average. The animation isn't striking, the jokes tend to range from being funny to just being slightly humorous. For instance, one of the recurring humorous moments revolves around Maika having that sadistic glint in her eyes even though she wouldn't actually hurt a fly. It does get to a point that it is repetitive that it comes off as predictable. Same with Dino trying to confess to Maika, but either she misinterprets his declaration of love for her as just being one of friendship (again since she is from a very traditional family so much so that she was basically sealed off from any form of outside communication). The funnier moments take place in the restaurant since the setting revolves around it. My favorite episode is when Dino decided to make the restaurant jungle-themed for the day. There are many opportunities to draw from, and I feel that they did succeed at some of it. However, when the characters leave the restaurant, I just find the episode average.

The characters are fine, but they aren't that deep. Maika for the most part is a good character, but one aspect that I felt they should've dwelled on more was her time at school. As for Dino, he is also a pretty funny character because of his overt otaku behavior, but he can also come off as creepy since he's older than Maika by 10 years. Kaho was also a pretty good character, but I felt that they could've done a bit more for her other than have her be addicted to gaming. Mafuyu I disliked because of how she basically acts like a little brat and goes unpunished for it. Some of it is justified, especially when it comes to Dino perving on Maika, but for the most part, she just comes off as a bitter character. Miu, I honestly felt was pointless. While the other characters at the least got an episode to build off on their relationships, Miu's issue is that she seemed to be criminally underused. Hideri I do like, but he is also pretty flat. Aside from liking yuri, Akizuki is gravely afraid of girls which makes him being close to Kaho uncomfortable. Now that is interesting and I look actually like to see how this develops. But for the most part, he is flat as well. Really, all of the characters are one-note in some way, but they are by no means boring. They are average and can be forgettable because the show overall is pretty average by pulling off the same tired slice of life shtick.

At least we got a meme from it.

Nothing special
masonfewel7 May 2021
I've watched my fair share of slice of life anime and anime in general, and this is by far the most average I've seen. Some jokes are moderately funny, none of the characters have any development besides like one or two traits and maybe something to motivate them, and there is literally no story. (Not that that's a bad thing no matter what, some really great anime like non non biyori don't have a story.) Not having a story in this case is a detriment, however. I would not recommend this, it's not so bad it's good and it's not so good that it's good, it's right in the middle. Overall, this was a mildly enjoyable yet somewhat boring experience.

What could be more ideal than a tasty cafe?
Mysterygeneration16 January 2024
What could be more ideal than a tasty cafe? Of course, a cafe with adorable females to serve you! It improves even further. Some of these girls have very inflated personalities. From tsundere to cruel, this venue truly offers its patrons an incredible experience. To be honest, I had a ridiculously good time seeing Blend S.

Blend S is an anime that has a great sense of humor and endearing female characters with distinct personalities. The storyline of the show draws from workplace sitcoms that subtly convey humor in addition to their plot. The show's seamless pacing makes sure that each episode flows naturally into the next, adhering to the genres and idea without overly depending on the plot to satisfy viewers.

Maika, Kaho Hinata, and Mafuyu Hoshikawa are the three primary female characters in the program, and they are mostly responsible for its humor. Maika is a cunning figure with sadistic tendencies who frequently exudes a charming innocence. Her statements and deeds, however, are satire of her actual character since she cares about providing superior customer service. Mafuyu Hoshikawa, a more experienced character, adds an air of purity, while Kaho Hinata, a tsundere, is not seen as such. The show revolves around these characters, who are able to use their personalities to incredible effect.

Characters with personality, such as Miu and Hideri Kanzaki, are prominent in the anime. The primary characters, Dino and Koyou, on the other hand, are unmemorable and only really come to light during their interactions with other people-especially Dino and Maika. The show occasionally leaves the cafe and heads to the beach, with Dino depicted as a butt monkey. Despite being a blue-collar industry, the anime makes light of the working atmosphere and portrays the major characters as supporting characters. The show is enjoyable to watch because it is lively and entertaining.

Instead of being a blend, Blend S gives its characters a lot more attention. They are able to sell viewers on the show's enormous amount of humor through their personalities. It's not simple to play characters who defy conventional tropes, but Blend S truly went above and above to get that off, in my opinion.

I LOVE this anime so much! The character types, the sadist, the tsundere, the trap, the imouto, and the big sister, and the manager always made me laugh! Had a lot of fun!

The very definition of average
ramoncarrasquel21 February 2018
Blend S is a perfect show when you don't have anything to watch, it is an inoffensive comedy but I don't think this show stands out in any way.

Blend S doesn't do anything exceptionally terrible, while at the same time, it doesn't do anything exceptionally good, it's just stands in the middle in terms of quality.

The characters are really average, they are characters we have seen in other shows before, and they don't bring anything new to the table, their interactions and dynamics are also pretty bland.

The humor is really simplistic, it's just your typical slapstick comedy with over exaggeration humor we have seen a million times, and even some jokes have already been done better in the shows.

The animation is nice, but it doesn't stand out for the other shows out there.

However, that doesn't mean i totally despised this show, I've got a chuckle here and there and it was overall a very welcome experience, just not something that was really memorable or groundbreaking.

In conclusion, this anime doesn't do many things wrong to be called bad, but at the same time it doesn't do many things right to be called good either, it is just in the middle for me, and that's why I consider this show to be really mediocre.

This is really heartwarming and funny at the same time.
This show is great, Even though i just started watching this "March 6' 2021" I already want to watch season 2. From the fans to the makers of Blend S, Please Continue your work I'd love to look out for this show. If there won't be a season 2, I'd be verry upset. But the makers didn't tell if the show is cancelled so I'm looking up to that.
