Just as good as the main game!

Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes DLCs aren't always good, but this is! It almost could be a game onto itself, so much exploring(Like in the main game)! I love how exploring you can do. Also I like the fact if you complete some of the quests in it, some of the characters help you with the Main ending quest of the game!

One of the better written games I've ever played. Excellent story and great voice acting. Highly recommended.

'Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds (2017)' is an expansion to the main game that introduces a new part of the map, several new machines and allows interaction with the otherwise only mentioned Banuk tribe. It works both as a stand-alone adventure and as a sort of detour within the main narrative of the base game. In fact, I'd argue that it actually makes the original narrative even better thanks to its exploration of some interesting aspects of world design. It also gives you a little more insight into the enigmatic Sylens character. It's a great experience, one that strikes a perfect balance between 'more of the same' and 'something a little different'. The gameplay is as good as it's ever been here, with the new machines and icy environment only adding an extra layer of depth. Overall, it's a satisfying side-story that can be enjoyed either during or after the main game (although it canonically takes place before the main game's ending). 9/10

hassanlu12 December 2020
This dlc added stronger weapon and add like 3 _4 powerful robot but the main advantage and disadvantages still the same ,

Advantage is entertaining gameplay and challange sometime , the disadvange is the story i really dont intresting about what happen and about character the dialouge is very clishe ,and expected ,itis very expected like the dialouge of some commerical movie like fast and furious and jumanji and this kind of movie,,, It is type of game that make you will skip most of cutscene

Very Average DLC
cchenders4027 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start with the positives:

  • there is a lot of content
  • the new machines (3 that new with one being a tower and the rest are more difficult reskins of the base game machines.

  • the new map is great and a fun historical location
  • there are some cool gameplay additions and quality of life improvements.

Negatives
  • the main story is not good. It's a series of fetch quests and busywork, with a loose narrative about a AI and a brother and sister. The cutscenes really jammed it up with the drama and emotion and it just falls flat. One of the main characters is like crying over a AI that she thinks is a spirit and it just does not land, she just looks dumb for thinking it's a mystical being. The brother sister relationship you are supposed to invest in is not gripping and doesn't hit you in the feels like it wants you too.

  • the dlc is meant to be more difficult and what that means is bigger health pools but no real combat challenges.

  • the missions, fights, and exploration are really just more of the same.

  • some of the main quests you can tell are just filler. They will give you four objectives all over the map to do simple tasks and then those tasks branch out into smaller fetch quests. You can tell the devs were just trying to add to the run time of the short story.

  • the climbing is still terrible and uninteresting.

  • I yet again ran into more glitches on PS5. Textures were loading in weird, getting stuck in random flat terrain, the climbing messing up. I was really surprised by all these bugs in a AAA first party game.

It's a average to good dlc. If you were dying for more of this game get it and you'll probably like it, if you didn't love the base game I'd pass. But it on a sale.
