I very much enjoyed 'Sound & Fury" knowing that it was fiction, but a wild romp that, by necessity skirted 'procedures'. A great deal is packaged into this episode and I was truly amazed at the cleverness employed in production. I also suspect that Madam Secretary 'parallels' current government in many ways and perhaps is thinly veiling a message to the American public about what could be done. And should be done.

Educational

I liked this episode and was inspired to write this review after reading another review that essentially said it was unrealistic and resolved too quickly. Of course it did, but that wasn't the purpose of the writing IMO.

I believe the purpose of this was two-fold. First it showed an extreme situation - a what-if. It had shock value and was certainly unexpected behavior from a person in that position.

Secondly, it realistically showed how our Constitution could be used to help resolve a situation where this highly unlikely yet still possible scenario could occur.

Could someone be hyper-critical about this episode? Absolutely! But sometimes we have to take that step back and look at the bigger picture.

Clearly Pointed

This is a fast moving story from crisis to resolution, but what is most fascinating is to see are the parallels between the show and our current political situation. I couldn't help but wonder if many in the White House were looking at it rather grimly thinking it's too close to reality for comfort. Certainly, many people have wondered whether the country might face a similar constitutional crisis to resolve the issue with our current president. Whether you agree or not, it's a good reminder of our constitution works.

Mixed feelings about this.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode ends with Conrad saying how our country is in good hands and that the constitution ensures proper procedures, etc. In theory that is wonderful, but unfortunately in real life our country has proven that the safeguards were ineffective to protect our nation. It is nice to imagine such an honorable government. It is a feel good episode, rather like the film "The American President".

Thrilling but ending was cheesy

Most of the episode was thrilling and nail biting until the end (last minute) when you can almost hear the angels sing because America is just the most wonderful place on earth with its school shootings, gun crimes and other vices and oh.. democracy. That was really bad and showing unashamedly a striking case of cheesy misguided patriotism.

Wow, procedurals have the challenge to get it all stuffed into the 40 minutes package .... but in this episode, you really created a farce of a story, issue, resolution and ..... well, I was outright laughing .... did entire writing team take silly, 5 year old pills to get this one done ...... not a whit of sophistication, not a glimmer of "real world" at any juncture ..... I've been patient with a lot of the hurry to get it done stuff -- but you are passing the line with this one .... WAY PAST ....
