Ben Affleck is set to star in his upcoming Netflix thriller “Animals,” which he’s also directing. His longtime friend Matt Damon was originally slated to lead the film but had to depart due to scheduling conflicts with Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic “The Odyssey.”
“Animals” is aiming to begin production in Los Angeles this April, according to Deadline, who first reported the casting shakeup. Meanwhile, “The Odyssey” is expected to commence shooting in various global locations later in February.
Billy Ray, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Captain Phillips,” “The Hunger Games” and AMC Theatres’ iconic Nicole Kidman ad, is penning the screenplay with Connor McIntyre. The crime thriller reportedly follows a mayoral candidate whose child is kidnapped.
Though Damon won’t appear in “Animals,” he’s remaining on the project as a producer with Affleck through their company Artists Equity, along with executive Dani Bernfeld. Additional producers are Brad Weston and Collin Creighton of MakeReady,...

Over the years, Netflix has put out some gigantic hits, which were added to throughout 2024! Here’s your latest update guide to all of the biggest and most watched movies and series on Netflix of all time!
To measure its biggest hits, Netflix uses hours watched and completed viewing equivalents (Cve for short). These viewing hours are from Netflix’s global subscriber base, and Cve works by taking the runtime of the show or movie and dividing it by the number of hours watched. It’s not perfect, but it’s substantially better than what other streamers provide.
Before Netflix switched its hourly figures, it used the number of households who watched within the first 28 days. While these numbers are hard to stack against the list below, we have kept a record of all the old Netflix viewership stats here. Those numbers are correct up through October 2021, when Netflix switched.

20th Television have dropped yet another teaser for Alien: Earth, their upcoming sci-fi horror series that will serve as a prequel to the first film in the franchise, revealing what happened back home on Earth two years before the events of the 1979 movie.
While we don't have an official premiere date, the series is slated to debut this Summer on FX on Hulu domestically and Disney+ via Star internationally. Also, with the Super Bowl right around the corner, there's a very real possibility that a full-length trailer could debut during the annual event, especially considering the Big Game is airing on Fox.
Plot details remain relatively under wraps, but the basic premise is as follows, "When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat."
Based on the quick teaser,...

Give us 15 episodes of The Pitt Stat!
Max’s newest original series merges the best of ER and 24, combining the stakes of life-saving emergency medicine with a real-time format to deliver one of the year’s most engaging shows (so what if the year is only 10 days old?). The medical drama, the first two episodes of which are now streaming, also counts several ER vets amidst its ranks, as it was created by R. Scott Gemmill, produced by John Wells, and stars Noah Wyle. They know what they’re doing, and it shows.
Set in a trauma hospital in Pittsburgh, the first season follows a 15-hour shift in an emergency department led by Wyle’s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. Maladies range from the relatively mundane to the gruesome and dire as Robby and his team, including overconfident interns and green student doctors, attend to the never-ending flow of patients. Comparisons to ER are unavoidable,...

The National Theatre production of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest,” starring Ncuti Gatwa, has unveiled a trailer ahead of its cinema release on Feb. 20.
The trailer begins with Gatwa, dressed to the nines in a pink gown and matching gloves, playing a piano riff before leaning back to give viewers a sassy wink. Various clips of the filmed performance then tease the show’s offbeat humor, glamorous costumes and talented cast.
The “Doctor Who” and “Sex Education” star plays Algernon Moncrief, a witty yet idle bachelor, alongside Hugh Skinner’s Jack Worthing in the production reimagined by Max Webster.
The play’s provided synopsis is as follows: “While assuming the role of a dutiful guardian in the country, Jack (Skinner) lets loose in town under a false identity. Meanwhile, his friend Algy (Gatwa) adopts a similar facade. Hoping to impress two eligible ladies, the gentlemen find themselves...

Networks like the CW, Freeform and Fox were once a treasure trove of teen TV, with slates packed with series like “The O.C.,” “Gossip Girl,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “90210.” But as younger audiences completely shun linear, these networks have largely abandoned teen programming.
Ratings for the CW and Freeform, two networks that used to be teen-centric, dropped 30% and 22%, respectively, from 2022 to 2023.
Today streaming is a haven for YA programs viewers once found on network TV. Prime Video tested the waters with series like “The Summer I Turned Pretty” while Netflix produced young audience movies like “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” Now both streamers have bolstered their teen slates with Prime Video’s recent reboot of ‘90s cult classic “Cruel Intentions” and Netflix’s series “My Life With the Walter Boys,” “Heartstopper,” “Sex Education,” “Xo Kitty” and “Ginny and Georgia.”

Gillian Anderson played the skeptical Dana Scully for nine seasons of The X-Files, one of the popular and influential sci-fi series of the 1990s. She returned to play Scully in a pair of revival seasons in 2016 and 2018, but called it quits after that. In a lengthy conversation with X-Files co-star David Duchovny (Fox Mulder), Anderson explained why she no longer wanted to continue starring in the spooky series after the 11th season ended in 2018.
“The end was problematic," Anderson said on Duchovny's Fail Better podcast. "I mean, it was problematic storyline wise, particularly for [Anderson's character Dana] Scully. And I wasn’t really enjoying the direction that it was heading. It didn’t feel– and yet there was, I didn’t have a voice in it. As much as anything, I felt like I needed to move on to something where I might have more of a voice.”

“I’m such a pessimistic arse,” Connor Swindells tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The British star (so the emphasis is on the “ar” in “arse”) is discussing his start in the industry with the global Netflix hit Sex Education. “I always think the worst and think, ‘No one’s going to see anything,'” he says about being unable to predict the show’s success. But it helps, being a pessimistic arse, he adds. “If you become conscious of an audience, you set yourself up to fail in many respects.”
The 28-year-old has the world at his feet. Life after Sex Education has been fruitful. He nabbed the lead role in Steven Knight’s (Peaky Blinders) military drama Sas Rogue Heroes and later, a job alongside Will Ferrell in a small production called Barbie.
Up next, Swindells takes on the role of legendary 14th-century bailiff Albrecht Gessler, whose brutal rule led...

A new Netflix movie that's based on a true story has just debuted on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics are being very positive. Though Netflix offers plenty of originals in the sci-fi and fantasy genres, more grounded shows and movies based on true stories have also historically been popular at the streamer. These sometimes take the form of true-crime shows, such as the popular Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, but they have also been more straightforward dramas.
The Founder, for example, starring Michael Keaton, was well-received in 2017, with its story of how McDonald's became one of the biggest restaurant chains in the world. 2023 was a particularly strong year for the based-on-a-true-story movie at Netflix, with Nyad, Bradley Cooper's Maestro, and Rustin all earning positive reviews and awards recognition. Another 2024 Netflix movie based on true events now seems poised to join this respectable club.

Emma Mackey is getting put in a mystery box.
The “Sex Education” and “Barbie” breakout is joining Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega in lead roles in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Warner Bros. feature, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Details of Abrams’ first film since “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” are being kept mysterious — all we really know about it is that it won’t involve time travel. It will be the box-office-dominating writer-director-producer’s first film not based on I.P. since 2011’s “Super 8.” Abrams’ company Bad Robot is producing.
Mackey is a rising star who made her debut in Netflix’s comedy series “Sex Education” in 2019. She earned a BAFTA nomination for her performance as entrepreneurial high school student Maeve Wiley in the hit series. She also appeared in “Barbie,” the biggest film of 2023, as Physicist Barbie, a role that played up her physical resemblance to Margot Robbie.

British actress Emma Mackey (“Barbie”) has landed the female lead opposite Glen Powell in J.J. Abrams’ forthcoming, untitled Warner Bros. movie.
Details about both Mackey’s role and the project in general are being kept under wraps. The film also stars Jenna Ortega.
Not much is known about Abrams’ new film except that it is not a time travel movie (as had been previously speculated) and that Abrams both wrote the script and will be directing. The project will be produced by Abrams and his production company Bad Robot.
Mackey, who first broke out with her role as Maeve Wiley on Netflix’s “Sex Education,” most recently starred in Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-winning “Barbie.” She is also the 2023 recipient of BAFTA’s Rising Star Award,
Other credits include playing famed novelist and poet Emily Brontë in Frances O’Connor’s Warner Bros drama “Emily,” and Kenneth Branagh’s “Death on the Nile.

When Ncuti Gatwa recorded The Graham Norton Show last Thursday, he delivered what appeared to be good news for Doctor Who fans: his third season as the Time Lord would shoot next year.

Speaking to Norton on the famous red sofa, Gatwa originally revealed: “We did the second series this year, the Christmas special is coming up, and we are filming a third series next year.”
But when the show aired, this was edited to: “We finished the second season earlier this year, we’ve got the Christmas episode coming out … at Christmas … But it’s been amazing.”

“Joy” has been a much-used title in recent years, one that a new film about the battle to develop in-vitro fertilization treatment justifies recycling once more with a late-film reveal: It was the middle name given to Louise Joy Brown, the world’s first so-called “test-tube baby,” and the first successful outcome in over a decade of agonized, controversial medical research. But joy is also the primary Mo of this debut feature from British TV comedy director Ben Taylor, which assigns itself the somewhat tricky task of fashioning an uplifting audience-pleaser from story material in which moments of elation are considerably outnumbered by those of crushing heartbreak.

Netflix has bucked the TV industry contraction to post record U.K. revenues of £1.7 billion ($2.2 billion) according to its latest company accounts.
They show that Netflix Services U.K., a Netflix Inc subsidiary responsible for providing its streaming service within the U.K., increased its revenues by 8%. That’s a lower jump than in 2022 (where revenues where 12% higher than the previous year) but still represents a record figure for the company. In 2022 revenues amounted to £1.5 billion.
The vast proportion of that money is made up from streaming revenue (£1.6 billion in 2023) with a trickle (just over £35 million) also coming from services rendered to parent company Netflix U.K. and its Amsterdam-based sister company Netflix International B.V.
According to the financial report, which was filed this week at the U.K. business registrar Companies House, the revenue increase is “due to a larger member base… and increase in revenue per paying membership.

Gillian Anderson is one of the most respected actresses in British television. Although the world best knows her for her performance in shows like X-Files, The Fall, Sex Education, and The Crown, she has done several other works that deserve just as much, if not more, recognition. There is no better example of an award-winning performance from her side than Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal.

The series is critically acclaimed for several reasons, ranging from its unique stylistic approach to its breath-taking performances, and impressive writing. The series manages to flush out every single character to their fullest degree, and a side character like Bedelia Du Maurier was no different.
During an interview, Anderson revealed the reason why she joined the cast of the series, even though she was playing a side character.

Rhiannon is pushed over the edge and loses control. Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything… Rhiannon’s...

In the wake of Alien: Romulus comes the Hulu series “Alien: Earth” next year, which is set before the events of all previous movies and brings the franchise to Earth for the first time.

Jason Isaacs and Gillian Anderson had only met socially when they began shooting The Salt Path, but soon built a sparkling chemistry onscreen as a desperate husband and wife walking England’s blustering coast.
The Salt Path is a true story. In the memoir written by Raynor Winn, Raynor and her husband, Moth, are in their 50s when they lose their farm, business and money to legal costs. After their home is abruptly torn away from them, Moth is diagnosed with a terminal neurological illness. With nowhere to go, the pair decide to set about, with only £115 ($150) in their pockets, walking the South West Coast Path — a 630-mile stretch.
What unfolds is a story of love, determination, compassion, strength and pain. Over 1 million copies of Ray’s tale has sold across all formats in the U.K. and internationally. The film, which stars Isaacs (The White Lotus, Harry Potter, Peter Pan) and Anderson (The X-Files,...
