I love feeling GOOD after watching the Orville
soudman20011 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Yes this episode didn't feature any enemies or crazy adventure. But it was a really good episode with some good humor and unexpected twists. To the people who think that only people who work for Seth, leaves good reviews....I'm sorry you are that blinded by hate. I couldn't be any farther from Hollywood.

For people who gave up after season 2 episode 2 and never watched any other episode, it's too bad. You are missing a great show regardless of what some people may have you think. Start with season 1 and watch at least 3 episodes. THEN decide. I tried that with STD and let's just say, I'm glad the Orville is on. Way to go Orville and I truly hope this show lives long and prospers!!!!!!!

Perfect ending
ebeckstr-125 January 2022
The Oroville continues its Data-esque Isaac escapades. It is a rare episode which does not include an external threat or conflict, instead focusing purely on the relationship between Isaac and the doctor. One of the best two endings of the series thus far. Poignant, funny, and absurd, with the absurdity augmenting the poignancy. It's one of the few episodes that has managed to thread the needle between ridiculous humor and genuinely moving moments between the characters.

We are without a doubt the weirdest ship in the fleet....

Outstanding episode on the part of Seth MacFarlane, beautifully done of how we all try to make a relationship work and not work all at the same time. Made all the characters more human, even for a so called robot and how we can all make ourselves better. Makes me not only like this series more but love this series.

Thank you Seth for a very creative series that brings such a fresh air to this genre, hope it's around for a long time.

Best robot romance episode of pretty much any scifi show
linuxjin1 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Star Trek has done a number of episodes involving romance with artificial lifeforms. Data's relationship with Tasha Yar (spoilers?) was pretty much an afterthought. The Doctor had a lot of relationships, but they were pretty much exclusively depressing.

In this one episode, you see an extreme amount of ups and downs and it was so damn funny, while also showcasing the confusing nature of human romance. It also reminds me somewhat of Data becoming aware of friendship: "As I experience certain sensory input patterns, my mental pathways become accustomed to them. The inputs eventually are anticipated and even missed when absent."

Need I say more? Maybe, and I might write a full review of this episode.

Boy meets Girl, Boy loses Girl
d.rust1 February 2019
Trek has never done this kind of story before and really done it justice. It tried to, back with Kirk and Miramanee and again with Edith Keeler, but it was never as successful as what Seth MacFarlane accomplished.

Dr Finn has been developing a relationship with Isaac over some months, and now armed with Kelly's encouragement she broaches the offer of a date after her son has a successful piano recital due to Isaac's tutelage.

The pair attend an absolutely wonderful orchestral concert in the company of the crew. The scene is pure genius on MacFarlane's part. A slightly more awkward encounter in the simulator as Isaac reveals he knows literally everything about Claire. Eventually through various crew members offering advice, the two consummate their relationship in a unique way.

Their relationship goes south when Isaac reveals he has come to the end of his data gathering and Dr Finn is furious. And we come to the second plateau: boy loses girl.

The resolution of the matter is so heart-warming, so romantic, so human that it is clear that Seth MacFarlane didn't want just an homage to Trekery. He wanted to surpass it and go far beyond the Roddenberry vision.

He has succeeded.

Great Show, Pure Fun😊

Seth, keep it coming. I was pleasantly surprised to the hollow deck used in this way, very clever. Laughed out loud, even the second time I watched it. Well done to all The Orville crew. This episode is a character builder for the fans to connect withSome folks want to see more adventures, however, sci-fi doesn't have to be star wars all the time. To the people who didn't like it, it seems clear you do not get the spirit of the series. Sci-fi, adventure, fun, humor and different.

This show just keeps getting better and better. I won't say a word other than don't miss out on this. Forget Star Trek. Forget the comparison. This is anything but Star Trek. The Orville is on it's way to be one of the best sci-fi series in it's very own right.

A Happy Refrain

Warning: Spoilers
I would not expect a Claire episode to be one of the best of the season, but this definitely was. Isaac went into full Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory mode here and was great with his inability to understand anything other than the literal meanings of terms.

More comedy than most, but here it worked.

A lot of fun onboard of the weirdest ship in the fleet
AliensReservoir1 February 2019
Thanks for all the laughter in this episode. Some gems in the dialogue, it's refreshing, it's funny, it's also "serious" when it is needed! Overall it's a very good mix! The Orville got me last year, I mean it literally hooked me with the dialogues, the laughter and also with the ST spirit. This year it's even more, I am now a huge fan!

Funny as usual, but the love conquers all agenda feels very forced.
vanpoolotani14 April 2019
Don't get me wrong, I like the whole robot love concept, and a lot of the scenes, but the lack of convincing plot development makes the entire episode feel very contrived.

Ironically, the only thing that felt convincing was Isaac's predictable mechanical nature.

So awful
michaelp42-46-9728244 February 2019
Let me start by saying that I like The Orville, it's generally very enjoyable. The core of this episode might have worked as a B story, but as the main story, it was just terrible. Painful to watch at times.

Wow! Great episode

Warning: Spoilers
I'll admit, when I saw the promo for this week's episode, I had reservations - based mainly on my tepid dislike of the Next Generation episode that inspired it. This episode far surpassed expectations! It was heartwarming, funny, and generally made me a happier person for having watched it. It was great to see human Issac and Yaphit. The music was a nice compliment, and the way "Singing in the Rain" was worked into the plot was brilliant. Definitely the best episode of the season, and vies for best of the show's run.

Great episode.

This show just continues to get better and better.

Aside from the strangely placed S02E02 from last year, every episode this season has been strong.

Following footsteps...
tfoxx311 February 2019
In light of Star Trek Generation's "In Theory" episode.. we see once again, what happens when a human falls in love with a machine.

Only this time.. it's hilarious!

A job well done. It only missed a perfect 10 from me, because of how close the story line was/is to STG. Other than that, S2 is warming up to be well worth watching.

Solid all around
brentjohnson-431351 February 2019
So much easier to enjoy a show when the characters are relatable. The rest of the series has worked toward this goal, but this particular episode brought it together very well.

The performance by the handsome and debonair actor who played Yaphit was just icing on the cake.

Go Watch "In Theory" ST: TNG
entourage22239 February 2019
Cmon Seth, with all the creative story lines made in the first season that made this show like a trekkies black mirror, I cant believe you just completely ripped off a plot from STTNG. Please, although the ratings would differ, go watch the star trek episode depicting the same thing, in a much more academic and adult way. Cudos to ST:TNG, for showing just how ahead of its time even a mediocre episode can be.

A Women with a Vacuum Cleaner
efd-104674 February 2019
This episode and last weeks episode seem to be trying to evolve The Oriville into a show that gets to make cultural and political statements through the storyline. To me, similar to when MASH stopped being funny and started taking itself too seriously.

Still a good show but needs to get back on track to being light hearted and funny science fiction otherwise people will soon get bored being preached to.

Not a great episode

But after reading other reviews, maybe I'm just a little too jaded as an old man to have gotten everything I could have out of this episode. I will say the ending was worth the wait.

Why is this ep getting so much praise from reviewers?
MoistMovies1 February 2019
So this marks the 3rd episode based completely on romantic relationships as its main plot point, half the the season so far... And all of them have been incredibly mediocre. All the lowest scored trek episodes are the romance ones by most fans excluding ones where its a subplot, they often can work well, especially in Original Trek.. But when the orville does it, super cheesy, lame jokes and super corny dialogue. Its one of the best science fiction episodes ever made according to some of these other imdb reviewers.. Wtf? There was no interesting ideas behind this episode, it was as robotic as the Isaac is.

We are supposed to just feel a connection to their romance, that has gotten no mention or screen time before, and the Doctor feels it enough to be in love. Just throwing plots at you like this without any work put in setting it up, lazy writing like that only usually entertains those that don't care about continuity and quality.. Guess we got a few fans of the orville that are happy to lap up whatever it is, because they're so bitter treks current incarnation is not good.

Seems the orville is balancing between great and total lazy crud to me now. Really unfortunate if it continues to be this all over the place, from interseting ideas and trek like philosophy, to sci-fi romantic comedy with weak writing.. Its a bit bi-polar ------- The first season was about 80% great, and the episodes that i didnt enjoy that much, were still not boring and didnt feel lazy.. -------- This season 50% is lazy/bad so far in my opinion. I hope it improves in the upcoming episodes.
