Stop Beating The Dead Horse
ktan-125 August 2018
Jack Neo is a talented Director but he really needs to be more brave and creative to try exploring new stories and stop rehashing and rehashing endlessly those old shows or characters that he had made in the past and make an effort to diversify into making new characters, or new genres or storylines. I dont think anyone would be looking forward to yet another boring repetitive movies of yet another Boys to Men, Liang Si Mei or Liang Po Po movie sequels or characters that have been used long time ago when he was in a TV comedy show 20 years ago. Be more adventurous like China, focus on new & different story-telling, dont focus your movie only on the characters...

Singapore has such rich culture and diversity in races that there are so many possibilities for great movies with interesting stories that he could dip into, without needing to keep making boring pointless sequels of past films.

A swing and a miss...

This 2018 Singaporean comedy was an ordeal to sit through. I think you need to be a native Singaporean to enjoy this particular movie from director Jack Neo.

When I sat down to watch "Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei the Movie", I had never heard about it. But I had recently sat through a bunch of Singaporean comedies, and thus I also opted to watch this 2018 movie without knowing what I was in for.

The storyline in "Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei the Movie", as written by Jack Neo and Ivan Ho, was a swing and a miss of a script that provided me with any sense of entertainment. I didn't enjoy the contents of the story, nor did I care one ounce about the characters. And the whole thing was just a tad too juvenile and silly for my liking.

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough, however I have to admit that I didn't enjoy the character gallery in the movie, so I was a little bit distracted from the performances on the screen. The cast ensemble in the movie was good, though I was only familiar with Jack Neo, Henry Thia and Mark Lee.

I have to admit that "Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei the Movie" was not a movie that I found enjoyable, and I didn't stick around to watch the entire movie. I just simply wasn't finding the motivation to do so, nor did the fact that the storyline had little appeal and the character gallery was just pointless, do much to help win me over.

I am sure that a Singaporean audience will appreciate a movie such as this.

My rating of "Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei the Movie" lands on a three out of ten stars.

Amazingly unfunny and even maybe unsuitable for minors

Warning: Spoilers
Watched this movie on TV, kinda shocked by the themes. Didn't watch the full show but just snippets, but even just minutes of this was enough to shock me terribly.

The opening scene was a tongue in cheek breaking fourth wall, of the main character asking the audience if they thought she (actually a he) was crazy, and defended herself (himself) using an obviously out of place video segment.

Another part is making fun of kidnapping, there's a kid flashing his middle fingers when pinching someone's nose and there are even jokes about sexual assault.

It's trying to be funny, serious and heart-warming, which isn't unsurprising for most movies. But sometimes it is all at the same time. This is tragic.

Personally, I would not let any minors I know watch this "family show", lest I need to spend hours to re-educate them about the seriousness of some elements.
