Torchlighters: The Perpetua Story (2009)

Btw, i just want to point out why i think i am the only person reviewing this movie... i had to enter the EXACT TITLE of this movie "Torchlighters: The Perpetua Story (2009)" in IMDb to get to this entry... Of course, i should be able to find it just by searching "perpetua"... i think that is a bug... Anyway, continuing to what i think about this movie... First of all, i guess i should never be even reviewing this movie because before 2016.06.10, i was not even a Christian but an ultra right wing die-hard Steven Hawking following atheist!!! i actually was about to commit suacide because of personal reasons i don't want to elaborate on... But on that day, something happened that made me change my mind about offing myself! i heard about the sudden shocking death of a certain Christina Grimmie... i had never heard the name before even though she was obviously famous on NBC's singing competition the Voice... Obviously, i never was an avid music lover... i had to find out who she was before i died. Eventually, i came across her music "I bet you don't curse God." Listening to her music made me change my mind about killing myself. i thought her voice in that music was like a plea from God telling us to change our minds and turn away from Mr. satan... i think the main character in this movie, "Torchlighters: The Perpetua Story (2009)", Saint Perpetua, reminds me so much of Christina Grimmie... Of course, i am not claiming people were threatening to kill Christina Grimmie unless she turned away from God... But just like Saint Perpetua, she did face some extremely difficult choices in life that made her think, "why am I on this path? It would be SO MUCH easier if i just turned away from God..." Some time before Saint Perpetua was martyred, she was temporarily taken out of prison and led before a Roman priest and asked to burn a pinch of incense... The priest droned, "Only a pinch! Only a pinch!" If she burned the incense before the priest and showed people that she was somebody who followed the "party line" that told every Roman citizen to worship the Roman Emperor as God, she would have been sent free! They would even say, "We don't care if you go back to worshiping Jesus Christ! We don't care if you are just doing it just to show the priest... Just burn the incense just once, and you are free to go!!!" But Saint Perpetua, even though she had a small infant baby, replied "No!!! I am a Christian!!! Jesus Christ is Lord!!!" And chose to go back to prison and eventually die an extremely painful death in the Roman arena... Just as reference, Christina Grimmie faced just such a difficult choice in life where many people would have chosen the much more easier path even though it would have been one that led away from God... Christina Grimmie had released her new single "Must be Love" and the recording company she was signed up in, Island Records, told her to pose nude to help promote her music... If she posed nude for them, she could have stayed on that aspalt paved road to success and fame that she was on, but instead she decided to choose a rocky mountain path that might lead nowhere... She decided to leave Island Records and become an indy! Anyway, even though this movie does not have any content that might be unsuitable for viewing to minors, it is a sad movie where most of the main characters gets killed... But if you are a strong devout Christian who definitely want your children to grow up to become devout Christians like yourself, i guess there is no problem letting your kids watch this movie...

Maybe not the best animation but a fair one. Maybe only for a Christian public as main target. But a good return to the martyrs period. Because, more the story of saint Perpetua, the film reminds the struggle of the first centuries of Christianity and the option between faith and the pinch of incense is more realistic today, in different sense, of course. The message, at first sigh, very simplistic, defines this real useful short animation.
