Take the time to watch the scenery
vovers15 November 2020
2500 year old story with all the trappings of an Arabian Nights Tale, well developed characters, mysticism, religion, politics, family, beautiful enormous visual canvas and lots of horses. The story has an authentic feel, deals with issues of joining nomadic and proud peoples. It is a long story but worth hanging in till the end. It will lift your spirits.

Excellent...
kaan_han28 October 2021
The scenes and atmosphere in the movie are very natural and the characters are very real, they play. I congratulate them all.

In addition, it progresses as a whole as a subject, and it may seem like it is progressing slowly to some, but I think it is in perfect consistency.

I highly recommend watching a great movie...

Not just another warrior princess
deanocware9 May 2021
I will say I hesitated quite a bit before watching this movie largely because I have become very tired of all of the Hollywood warrior princess movies out there today. And the last thing I wanted to see was another invincible woman killing all the imbecile "bad men". However after reading some of the more credible reviews on IMDb I decided to give this a chance. And I am very glad I did. This movie is not so much about a woman warrior as it is about a woman leader and her peoples way of life. Yes Tomiris is portrayed as a fierce fighter but that is not what the movie is about instead there are a lot of great male leads in this film who carry a lot of the action. What I enjoyed most about this movie, other than learning about a small piece of history I did not know or I had simply overlooked, was the way the Director and producers made the film without engaging in any gratuitous sex, gratuitous violence, or gratuitous profanity. This is what historical movies used to be about and I really hope we see more. Unfortunately I regret that I do not have any expectations of seeing a movie like this made in the USA by an American studio. So I felt a duty to spread the word. You can find quality "inclusive" films if you look hard enough and take some time to do your homework.

Excellent recreation of ancient world
kairat_mynbayev7 September 2020
Tomiris ruled nomadic tribes of the Great Steppe in the 5th century BC. Little is known about those times and about her in particular. Obviously, many details of the plot had to be concocted. However, the director A. Satayev was careful by not turning a historical drama into a tale or a fantasy. A source on the Internet says that they consulted historians about every little detail of that epoch: food, dresses and dwellings.

All steppe and desert pictures were filmed in Kazakhstan. Refined cloth on ordinary people in these harsh environments would look deceitful and inappropriate. Beautiful dress embellished with gold appears only twice: during Tomiris' wedding and during the burial of her husband and son. This also conforms to the many archaeological discoveries from the tombs of chiefs of the Saka tribes, the most recent one being in 2020. Unlike Nomad: The Warrior (2005), which is full of Hollywood clichés, this movie really takes you back 25 centuries. Authenticity - that's the feeling you get. They even tried to reproduce an ancient language, which I don't think was a good idea.

Herodotus, who first wrote about Tomiris almost 100 years after her death, says that the Persian king Cyrus II was killed by her warriors in his last battle, noting that this is only one of the versions of his death. The film follows this version. Almira Tursyn made her debut as Tomiris and did a great job. Her large eyes sparkle with rage as she explains the battle plan. To unite the scattered and independent nomadic tribes, Tomiris really had to be an outstanding leader.

The plot could be more dynamic and rich, and the characters more detailed. Babylon is sketchy; a better display of its wealth would emphasize the fact that a more advanced nation was defeated by nomads. Oddity: when Al-Farabi is writing about Tomiris in arabic in the 9th century AD, they show a map where Saki-Massagets are written in Russian.

Historically inaccurate
bardiasm30 June 2022
We shall not change history like this with letting nationalist getting into cinema.

Let's look at a few facts. The area that is Turkmenistan and potentially Uzbekistan as well as almost all Turkic areas west were not populated by ANY Turkic people before 500 AD. After that time the Scythians were started to push much more westward and the eastern Monoglic people displaced them in the area north EAST of Caspian sea.

HOWEVER,

prior to that era, all of those lands were occupied by "IRANIAN" people such as Scyths and other related Iranian groups and subgroups. Scythians were not necessarily European because although the name Europe is Greek and very old, but back then there really wasn't an entity called Europe. There are many Iranian names for the Iranian tribe that the Tomiros (Turkish name) belonged "centuries" BEFORE the invasion of Mongolic TURKS. These migrant Mongolic people mostly called Turks that invaded that area DID NOT have any connection to the history of that region prior to their invasions MUCH later. But as the Turks have done EVERYWHERE they invaded, like in turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, etc.. and also south to India but as "Mongols" later, they somehow have always attempted to REWRITE history to suit themselves. BUT NOT CARE ABOUT TRUTH.

Truth is that NO TURKIC GROUP EXISTED IN THAT REGION at the time of now called Tomiros who correct Iranian name is Tahm-Rayis which has an ancient Iranian meaning of brave. So just as Turkey was Kurdish (another Iranian group) and Celtic Lydian and Greek plus many other indo-European groups, that area east of Caspian see was completely dominated by Iranian indo-Europeans at the time that Tomoris lived.

She was Scythian and wore a Scythian outfit that was NOT Turkish in any shape or form. She had NO CONNECTION to any Mongolic, Turkic, uzbick, Kasak etc in any shape or form because those groups did not even exist in that region around 500 BC where is the approximate time that (now known as) Tomiros lived.

A gritty historical epic with a non Hollywood feel. Worth watching
escamillio5 April 2021
Well done authentic movie about the historical nomad queen tomiris who historians agree stopped the Persian army and killed their king. The non Hollywood pace and casting are refreshing with the costumes and cinematography capturing the feel of the nomadic tribes well. Well worth a viewing.

The comments here are nationalistic cancer and the mods should intervene and delete the ones that are not about the film but just upset that history and and Iranian nationalism do not agree what actually happened.

Still a good watch. 👍

A good epic movie based on true history.
yves-burger3 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
We know by Herodotus and other writers that Cyrus was defeated and killed by Tomyris, Queen of Massagetes, a Scythian people. He had probably arrested and killed her son (some stories said he committed suicide when being a prisoner).

So it is a fictional story based on true history, as far as we know.

And it's a good action movie. Landscapes are fantastic and battles are very well shot.

Its just a joke and not even funny
bgheysari13 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Even the writer of the movie knows it's a big lie since they named it a legend and then you see these people believe it, its just a joke and not even funny. These sort of movies share nothing but a large huge of lie, hatred and strict racial opinions in the time we need to believe in the love of humanity more than ever...

You feel the era. Ignore ratings
kadir-3199010 September 2021
It takes you in. You won't regret watching it.

Iranians give low rating because they think history is deliberately distorted. I am not historian but I never thought of such a thing while watching the movie. This is a movie that based on Al-Farabi's writing, minor changes can be made to better tell the story.

History sometimes depends on viewpoints
billteller17 June 2021
Braveheart was not a particularly accurate movie from a historical standpoint. Doesn't mean it wasn't a really good, fun movie.

I can't, and won't, speak about historical accuracy of Tomiris, as I don't know it. But I can and will give my opinion of the movie as entertainment.

It's quite enjoyable. A touch slow at times. I never liked the priest very much. But the rest is well worth your time.

It is not fair to down vote
CagCak28 October 2021
The movie includes legendary historic facts. Being a radical Persian cannot be a reason to down vote this kind of pure-historic events. Because of this, I am voting 10/10 but in a normal evaluation, personally I would rate it as 7/10.

Long History lesson
kosmasp5 April 2021
Now I do understand that for some this is way too long. I really do, I would have liked this to be way shorter myself ... but you have to take things as they are. And while this could have done with a faster pace and shorter run time, it is still a strong epic movie in some regards.

One of them being the epic fights! Really well choreographed and some amazing stunt work to be seen. Some of the drama during and within it may be a bit too much also ... but again, this is why I have not rated it higher myself. But a 1/10 seems really completely out of place, when there are other movies more deserving of that rating.

Ignore the troll reviews, It's worth a watch
Hekainu31 January 2021
I watched this today and was surprised to see so many 1 star reviews. I guess there's a lot of insecure salty nationalists here. Sure it might not be historically accurate (bear in mind you're talking about events taking place about 600 BC so the idea of historical accuracy is somewhat laughable in that context).

I gave it six stars, I thought it was overall a decent movie, a little cliched in places but with great cinematography, vast beautiful landscapes and good music. The costumes look fantastic and they clearly took a lot of time to get the look of the film. I was surprised to see that this was the lead actresses only film role to date; given that I think she did a great job. If you liked Myn Bala, Mongol, etc I would recommend this.

It's great to see movies coming out of countries where the film industry is less established and releases tend to get overlooked.

Beautiful lies
Hamid_K114 January 2021
It is staggering how many movies and books were made and written about Persian history with many alterations, especially about Cyrus the Great. Interesting fact is most of the cover lies and massive distortions behind pretty acting and ignorance of the audience. Question to those who say this is based on real historical events, how many actual legitimate history books you read about Cyrus and his kingdom?

I mean no offense to the cast of this movie, but as Cyrus would do, I too invite you, the watcher and them, the cast, to think and learn.

Have a nice day.
