Not horrible
Slytherinreader4 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers*

So first I just want to say this movie was so much better than heaven was. If you are not a fan of the books you will still capture some of the magic of this series. With that said the movie missed import things. For starters Troy's acting while it may be good for a normal role it was horrible for Troy. Troy is supposed to be withdrawn, battling depression and a fear of losing himself. Troy pictures his own death over and over and it gives him a depressing outlook on life that this actor frankly did not capture. Heaven is portrayed kind of forward (as a nice way to put it). Yes a person that has been emotionally abused tends to search for love and can be easily manipulated but from the begining with cal then Troy they make it seem like she's just jumping into bed with them when in the books her and Troy actually develop a trusting friendship before she falls in love with him. It's hard to capture in a short film but I still feel they could have shown more of him showing up to graduation and promising to find her siblings and her confiding in him about everything before throwing them into bed together. The girls at winterhaven were a let down. In the book they were extremely cruel and the scene with the dance they gave her laxatives and locked all the bathrooms forcing her to relieve herself in a waste basket instead of just her puking at the dance. I also wish they had added the scene with the laundry chute that heaven got her revenge by making the worst girl go down it and land in filth. But I understand some things have to be cut to fit in a movie. Jillian is way more how I pictured kitty acting towards heaven. Kitty was abusive to her where Jillian treated her with indiferance. Tony was over the top with how creepy he was to heaven in this movie. His advances really didn't start untill the next book. Troy's letter to heaven.. come on you really couldn't just have her read the same letter from the book. His heart breaking letter turned to a one line regret. Was a major let down and could have easily fit the full letter. Luke casteel. She met the new wife and son at their home. She did not want to see pa and pa certainly was not super fake happy to see her. They did not have that kind of exchange. He got his perfect look alike son but unfortantly lifetime gave him white hair and made him look nothing like pa. Last but not least this movie ended early. If they had used less commercials for filler time they would have been able to include the tragic circus scene where tom loses his life. So now it leaves you wondering if they will put it into the next book and if that means other key parts will be left out of that movie.

Not bad, but. . .
vmwrites-180274 August 2019
There often was no distinction, between acting and overacting, sometimes to the point where characters became cartoons.

Jason Priestly's performance, at best, was disappointing.

decent basis for a story but badly acted
billsoccer22 September 2019
Jason Priestley is shockingly bad in this movie. The direction is also poor - life is rushed and people make decisions no 'real' people would. Haven't read the books, but can't believe they are this poor

The perverts never fail to entertain
phd_travel22 August 2019
So Heaven moves to be with her rich grandma. A much better cast elevates this one over the first. To be fair to the actors everyone has to play a strange character pervert or witch. Jason Priestley talks strangely here. Kelly Rutherford looks and behaves like the rich grandma. Things are more fun out of the backwoods. Some fancier surroundings and a more juicy and gothic too close for comfort inter family relationship that comes with VC Andrews. This is the juicy one in the series.

It was ok

I've read the books and really hoped they would sort of follow. The big problem I have is the extreme changes and things didn't make sense. Scene storylines were sped up, almost like scenes were cut that would have allowed things to make sense in the movie.

Did the casting director even read these books?
gswearngin8 September 2019
First off!!! A red headed heaven? Seriously!?!? The books focus so much on the color of her hair. Why is this important? Because her deceased mother, leigh, who died having her was a blonde. Her father Luke called leigh his angel. Heaven looked exactly like her mother EXCEPT she had dark almost black hair. Hence the name DARK ANGEL!!!! Thanks for ruining the series for the fans you idiots. Read the damn books next time! What an obvious blunder. An unforgivable one at that. And that's just the start of how horribly wrong they went with these movies. If you have read the books, dont watch these. You will be thoroughly disappointed they butchered the whole series the way they did. If you haven't read the books, the acting is terrible and there is no real connection made with any of the characters in these movies. So much so you dont really care who lives and who dies in these.

I saw the first one of these at the gym on the telly there but I thought it was a stand alone movie. I didn't realise it was a series. I'll have to watch the rest maybe.

Book vs Movie
megancoffin-2570730 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So I loved the movie on its own. But it's SO different from the book and the book was great! Jason Cermak did a wonderful job with Troy, however they greatly twisted the relationship between him and Heaven by rushing it and not showing them really getting to connect. Theirs was my favorite plot point of the movie AND the book. Also Jillian and Heavens interaction in the movie is vastly different from the book. They left out complete plot lines with the youngest siblings as well. Truly I did like the movie, but it's definitely different from the book. Obviously Heavens hair color was an issue from book to screen as well. Not sure why they thought that was a good idea to change but whatever. Jason Priestley as Tony was... I mean it was good in that he definitely gave off that creepy old dude vibe but the way he talked? It sounded so forced and stiff. But overall I was entertained. Seriously though I'd have been happier with more Troy scenes!!!!

HEAVEN has Jet Black Hair
mistyboogieboo30 June 2019
I don't understand why Heaven has RED hair. In the book it is Jet Black like her Biological Father Tony. This whole movie series that Lifetime did is terrible! They could have put in some effort while making these movies. They could have insisted on the actors act natural and flow with the dialog. The actors seem very on edge and not comfortable with the scripts. They removed over 50% of each book for each movie. They changed half of what they decided to keep. If I never read the book series I still would not have likes the movie series. Is there someone in Hollywood who could please take the time and hire good actors and good directors and please remake this series. It could be really good if done correctly.

The movie
stupidsims8 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The movie had zero character development! Jason Priestly was just terrible! His acting was wooden, his accent was horrendous and he has embarrassed himself and the other actors with this performance. The scenes made no sense at all! Just a few scenes in and you know this is no longer "Heaven" but really slopped and chopped together "Hell". The only redeeming second of this film is Annalise Basso though physically unlike the character from the book really does a decent job in this mess of a movie. I thought she was really wonderful in "Heaven" but this follow up was beyond repair! I do not know the jump between filming or behind the scenes changes but it is painfully obvious that those involved in the first film were not involved in the second! I cannot believe they even aired this movie even coming from that network it was by far the worse movie ever broadcast in the history of television!

1st movie Horrible, 2nd movie Bad
brendavbjacks11 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The second movie in the series was only slightly better than the first. The only saving grace was Jason's Priestly portrayal of Tony Tatterton. He wasn't amazing but he was honestly the best thing about this movie. His character was the closest to the book than any of the other characters but once again they moved the story line so quickly that he went from nice to evil too quickly which is a missed plot point. Another major missed plot point is Heaven's hair color. In the movie they made it red even though in the book it was dark. The title of the book can have a lot of interpretations but one of them is that she looks like her mother, (who they called Angel), but she has black hair, hence the title "Dark Angel" but the movie doesn't delve into this. In the movie there is one line where Tony mentions that her hair isn't the same color as her mother's. But in the book her hair color is a major issue. Tony has her change her hair color so she can look more like her mother which helps drive Tony's obsession with Heaven. Most of V.C. Andrews series books are too detailed to do them justice by trying to cram them in a 2 hour movie. IMO each book would need at least a two part movie for it to make any sense. The first movie was horrible. I guess this one is just bad.

Hackneyed
meldec24 August 2019
Oh wow. The dialogue so predictable. Raccoon date or wear the raccoon. Priestley stiff delivery of queen's English. Lol. No contractions shall be utilized! Hop in the sack with the brother immediately. How old is she supposed to be? Seventeen? Or the lie of sixteen? Just horrible even for Lifetime

I continued watching these movies just out of curiosity. One Of the worst things I've ever had to sit through. The casting was horrendous. The acting was even worse. So disappointed. Starting with the red headed Heaven

So rushed.
daysafterdaze27 November 2019
The disaster continues. I don't even think I could begin to list all of the flaws.

Let me complain about the hair color again.

This movie is called "Dark Angel".

Her mother was Angel with silvery blonde hair. Heaven looked exactly like her mother but with black hair. Hence DARK angel.

Sigh. You suck Lifetime.

Disgraceful
technoticanime8922 April 2020
Disturbing, inappropriate and traumatizing. Massive amounts of abuse, neglect, assault of all forms, mass bullying, child endangerment and abandonment with a teenage girl having been with 2 adult men and nothing being about it while children are being sold to abusive homes is sick. Stopping before getting half way because it's so horrific that it makes one feel physically ill. Also having young girls being with men and no one doing anything about it repeatedly is sick. It majorly crossed the line just like the first one. Done.

Tell Jason Priestley this is not a high school play but in fact an actual movie! He was awful! I just don't get who is writing these scripts! They could have at least read the back of the books first! Yall messed this up!

Horrible

Warning: Spoilers
I will echo the sentiments of other in saying this movie was horrible. There was zero character development. The choices made by Heaven made no sense. The red hair colour throws off the detail of genetics. The choice of characters was really poor. The development between her and Troy was instantaneous without any meaningful exchange. She continuously sort him out but we never see why or how this bond even led to this ,which is another key plot in the book. The acting was so bad.It was atrocious overall.

Much Improved
mweaver-334744 August 2019
The second '"Heaven" movie was an improvement compared to the first. Some characters, such as Jillian, were not handled properly- she was not an alcoholic in the book, just extremely vain and selfish. Also the scene where Heaven meets Tom at the circus, Pa seemed too happy to see Heaven. Jason Priestly played Tony very well, just showed his evilness a little too quickly. All and all a much better adaptation

soapy melodrama
SnoopyStyle18 April 2020
Heaven Leigh Van Voreen Casteel (Annalise Basso) is reunited with her newly discovered wealthy callous drunken grandmother Jillian (Kelly Rutherford) who doesn't want her to stay. Heaven has nowhere to go. Jillian's slimy husband Tony Tatterton (Jason Priestley) demands her total obedience. Tony's younger brother Troy designs the toys for the family business.

I got a bit confused with Heaven being 16. It totally screwed up the first movie for me until her reveal alleviates it a little. It would have made the first movie even creepier and Fanny's situation would be even more disturbing. Tony's revelation is just crazy. I'm not sure if Tony and Jillian are supposed to be the same age. It would make more sense if Jillian is a decade older. It seems to be a casting mistake. There needs to be a bit of clarity with all the dates and ages especially if the reveal depends so much on one year. It would help the melodrama. At some point, I'm expecting an evil twin in this series.

Warning: Spoilers
If you were a fan of the books (which I am) the movies are a disappointment Many key parts of the books are missing or changed. One thing I remember was in the 2nd book that she was Leigh all over again but for her dark hair. She was not a rehead but a brunette and when she went back dressed like her Mother she had had her black hair dyed silver blonde not wearing a brunette wig. Keith and Jane showed up the beginning of the 3ts book, but aren't even mentioned, nor do I remember Fanny having more kids, even though I think she may have slept with Logan. Best to skip it.

Don't bother watching
abmarie-8856631 January 2021
I grew up reading these books. I loved ALL of them and Heaven was my favorite series, I read them over and over. I was sooo excited to find out they made them into movies. I made myself finish watching Heaven, couldn't even finish Dark Angel. The acting was horrible and the plot didn't even follow the book. Heaven had black hair not red hair, btw. I decided to give Sweet Audrina a try, even worse! The real VC Andrews would be rolling over in her grave if she saw these horrible depictions of her bestselling novels!!! Please do us all a favor and don't make any more!
