Avatar: The Last Airbender, Netflix’s latest live-action series has finally ended with eight episodes. The series seems to have gone as quickly as it came, building up anticipation and leaving with a somewhat disappointed tone. While reviews have been mixed, fans have nonetheless appreciated it since it hasn’t thankfully repeated the disaster that The Last Airbender (movie) was.

The “Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” finale doesn’t pull its punches in clarifying the terrible trauma that June (Sigourney Weaver) and her granddaughter Alice (Alycia Debnam-Carey) have gone through, and showrunner Sarah Lambert felt it was important to drill down the effects of repressed trauma in the show’s finale.
In an earlier episode of the Prime Video series, based on the book by Holly Ringland, June finally revealed that her “Robber Baron” who she always told stories about as the love of her life, was a woman. Her son, Clem (Charlie Vickers), resulted from June getting raped by a stranger, and Clem developed violent tendencies as well. The first few episodes of the Prime Video show hinted at Clem’s abusive nature towards his wife and daughter Alice (Alyla Browne), but not until the finale do viewers learn that he was also violent towards his mother.

A temporary protective order against Ezra Miller, the troubled actor who stars in “The Flash,” was lifted on Friday by a Massachusetts judge. The judge ruled that the order, first obtained by Deadline, which was originally set to expire July 1, was lifted.
Previously, Massachusetts resident Shannon Guin accused Miller of behaving inappropriately around her 12-year-old child and threatening her family.
“I’m encouraged by today’s outcome and very grateful at this moment to everyone who has stood beside me and sought to ensure that this egregious misuse of the protective order system was halted,” Miller said in a statement posted on Instagram.

This story about “Picard” originally appeared in the Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
In 1994, after its seventh and final season, “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was nominated for its lone Best Drama Series Emmy. Patrick Stewart, who anchored the show as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, remembers the nomination well. It was the same year he got a SAG Award nomination.
“Those two were the only two (above-the-line) nominations that we got,” Stewart said. “Next Generation” was nominated for several Creative Arts Emmys—for crafts like makeup, cinematography, sound mixing and more—but was otherwise consistently overlooked. “The fact that Brent Spiner was never acknowledged in that way for his extraordinary work playing an android for seven seasons. And Jonathan (Frakes) and LeVar (Burton) and Marina (Sirtis). We got used to it. We knew there was going to be no acknowledgment…until the very last season.” Which is exactly what happened.

This article contains The Power spoilers.
When a season one finale is done correctly, it can seem much more like a beginning than an end. Such is the case with The Power on Prime Video, which feels like it’s just getting its principal characters into the starting gate for the race they’re truly preparing to run now that they’ve come into their own. While Margot’s life in American politics may necessitate a subtler approach than what Tatiana is capable of in Moldova, and although the now unified Roxy and Eve may have a challenge reconciling the complementary aspects of their approach, really no possibility is off the table for season 2.
The key to understanding the message behind The Power lies in accepting that the awakening abilities in young women will not necessarily solve the world’s problems; they will simply give people newly risen to positions...

To come across an international suspense thriller coupled with situational and self-aware humor is a rare find. It takes a special type of skill to give the audience a different kind of tale of diplomats who are constantly on the edge of their seats, or at least some of them are. This makes for an even more interesting watch and creates a genuine buzz about the show. “The Diplomat,” created by Deborah Cahn, is a Netflix Original show that talks about international diplomacy and espionage; along with that, it gives drama and situational humor. All of this sounds like a mixed bag of everything; one must watch it to understand the show and what it contains. A diplomat who was supposed to head to Kabul is suddenly sent to the UK to work on a major international crisis. Will she be able to work on it?

With just 2 more episodes to go, “School Spirits” has safely crossed the threshold of doubt and secured its footing as a slow-burn mystery that isn’t fatiguingly slow. While it could hardly be blamed if it didn’t treat the tenderness of the peripheral drama with the same care it allotted for the mystery, the Paramount teen show attests to the fact that the two don’t necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. And so it ends, and I vouch to never be so foolish as to give another Apple TV sitcom the benefit of the doubt. How are you to ever expect a feel-good comedy from creators that neither have an evolved sense of humor nor a sense of the difference between wholesome and try-hard? Of course, there’s an admittedly saucy cliffhanger (too soon?) that is likely to leave you oohing and aahing for the next season, which should count me out. The only thing that “Shrinking” deserves a reasonable nod of affirmation for is that the tremendously problematic approach to therapy from our resident shrink, Jimmy, has been proven to be an absolute no-go.

Money launderer Edwin Cooper is one of the invented names, for a character likely inspired by real-life solicitor Michael Relton, who was sentenced to 12 years for his part in washing the proceeds of the 1983 robbery. Detective Nikki Jennings is another invention, a composite character inspired by several of the female police officers who worked on the Brink’s-Mat investigation.
Two other characters appear under what seem to be invented names,...

Note: The following discusses major spoilers for “You” Season 4, Part 2.
After narrowly escaping the grasp of Joe’s psychotic break, Tati Gabrielle would “definitely love” to return as Marienne in a potential “You” Season 5 and take care of some unresolved business.
“Marienne’s story feels still feels unfinished, and [it] still feels like she has something else that she needs to see through,” Gabrielle told TheWrap. “I don’t think that Marianne is a vengeful person, so I think that she would want justice not necessarily revenge.”
By the end of Season 4, Joe (Penn Badgley) is convinced Marienne is dead after she fakes an overdose by taking pills to slow her heartbeat. The pills were provided by Nadia (Amy Leigh Hickman), Joe’s perceptive and ambitious student, who discovered Marienne’s imprisonment after connecting the dots of Joe’s suspicious identity.

Kiara Carrera (Madison Bailey) and JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow) are the definition of a slow-burn friends-to-lovers trope in Outer Banks. After subtle hints of feelings for each other in seasons 1 and 2, the teens finally have a romantic spark in season 3. But still, viewers don’t get to see as much Jiara as they would like in the new episodes.
Thankfully, Netflix has already ordered Outer Banks Season 4, so there’s a still a chance for more Jiara screentime. But what will their relationship status be in the new season? Here’s what we predict will happen.
[Spoiler alert: The following story contains spoilers for Outer Banks Season 3.]

“Knock at the Cabin” is the #1 movie in the country. And it’s easy to see why.
M. Night Shyamalan’s latest thriller spotlights a loving same-sex couple (played by Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge) and their adorable daughter (Kristen Cui), whose quiet weekend away in the Pennsylvania woods is interrupted when four strangers (led by Dave Bautista) knock on their cabin door. The strangers break their way in and deliver a horrible ultimatum: one of the family members must kill another family member to avert the end of the world. Are they psychotic or … are they telling the truth?
TheWrap spoke to Aldridge about becoming a part of Shyamalan’s new nightmare, what it was like acting directly to camera, telling queer stories and how game Groff was to sing his “Frozen 2” song.

Actress Bryce Dallas Howard faced pressure to lose weight for her leading role as Claire Dearing in the “Jurassic World” franchise, but says director Colin Trevorrow stepped in when the pressure mounted for the third and most recent film “Jurassic World Dominion.”
When asked by Metro UK what being in “Dominion” meant for female representation in action films, Howard revealed that she had been asked to lose weight for the franchise.
“What being in this third film allowed, how do I say this, how do I say this, how do I say this…. [I’ve] been asked to not use my natural body in cinema…. On the third movie, it was actually because there were so many women cast, it was something that Colin [Trevorrow] felt very strongly about in terms of protecting me…because the conversation came up again: ‘We need to ask Bryce to lose weight.’”

Pixar’s “Cars” have circled back around.
“Cars on the Road,” a connection of interlocking shorts that just premiered on Disney+ as part of the Disney+ Day festivities, follows Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) and Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) as they embark on a cross-country road trip for Mater’s sister’s wedding. Along the way they check into a haunted house, join the circus and cross paths with bigfoot. The shorts are incredibly charming and fit perfectly within the already-established “Cars” universe.
TheWrap spoke with Steve Purcell, who wrote every episode and directed three of the nine shorts and Brian Fee, who directed three of the shorts (and directed the very underrated “Cars 3”). Purcell and Fee told us about reusing characters from the “Cars” movies, creating stop-motion animation in CGI and how a surf guitar helped soften a ghostly visitation.

“Snowpiercer,” TNT’s TV adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s 2013 sci-fi climate catastrophe film of the same name, has halted production on its fourth and final season following extreme temperatures in Vancouver, Canada and the hospitalization of some crew members in the effort of being “extra cautious.”
“Out of an abundance of caution, production of Snowpiercer wrapped early yesterday and was suspended for today due to extreme heat on location. The health and well-being of show cast and crew remains top priority,” a Tomorrow Studios spokesperson said, adding that all of the people who were in the hospital had been discharged.
The series, based on the graphic novel “Le Transperceneige” by Jacques Lob, is set in a post-apocalyptic future where a botched attempt to stop global warming has inadvertently created another ice age. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 7
Share your pain! After several decades, one shadowy part of Spock’s family history has once again, been thrust into the light. In the seventh episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — “The Serene Squall” — a certain renegade Vulcan has returned. But, from the perspective of the “prime” Star Trek timeline, this is actually the “first” time this character has come back into Spock’s life. Here’s what this twist means, and how it fits into the chronology of the classic Star Trek series and, most importantly, the feature films of the 1980s.
Who is Sybok?
In “The Serene Squall,” the character of Dr. Aspen (Jesse James Keitel) is eventually revealed to have a dual identity. They’re not really Dr. Aspen, but instead, a ruthless pirate captain called Angel. However, Aspen is not...

The superhero sequel, which was released May 6 in theaters and has already grossed nearly 900 million at the international box office (376.5 million domestic), will be available to stream on Disney+ starting on June 22.
Pretty magical, huh?
The streaming release will come 47 days after the film’s opening in theaters, which is consistent with that of major 2022 blockbusters. Other studios have largely settled around 45 days as the new duration for theatrical exclusive windows.

Is it a sexually depraved nightmare or artistic triumph? Critics and audiences were divided on David Cronenberg's "Crash." Based on J.G. Ballard's equally controversial novel, "Crash" follows film producer James Ballard (James Spader), who has a detached relationship with his wife Catherine (Deborah Kara Unger). They have an open marriage and eagerly share the details of their trysts with one another, but James feels unenthusiastic about sex in general. Everything changes when he gets into a serious car accident that leads him to discover an underground subculture of car-crash sexual fetishism. Both James and Catherine find sexual euphoria in the perverse fusion of flesh and metal.
Despite the highly sexual content, "Crash" is anything but titillating. Cronenberg's clinical direction, the...

It was tough to imagine there would be no fallout from the "day-and-date" release strategy some movie studios committed to these past couple years. With the pandemic leaving theaters either locked down, or too risky for audiences, we saw a radical pivot to streaming that changed the theatrical market, probably forever. Though this felt like the compassionate and smart move to ensure eyes were on films, lots of filmmakers were shredded in the process. How? Well, distribution deals and contracts are complicated, often involving bonuses and backend deals for those with a stake in films....

But looking back years later, "Birdman" is a movie that has a lot to say about the way we perceive actors, their careers, and the roles they become famous for.

Can storytelling help save the planet? Netflix thinks so: The company worked with the team behind the United Nations’ COP26 international climate conference to curate a collection of sustainability stories on the streaming service.
The Netflix “Together for Our Planet” collection of 30 TV shows, films and documentaries includes real-life nature documentaries like “Our Planet” and Oscar-winner “My Octopus Teacher”; climate-science docs like “Breaking Boundaries”; dramas like Norwegian TV series “Ragnorak”; sustainability travelogue series “Down to Earth With Zac Efron”; and films including Bong Joon-ho’s pro-vegetarian fantasy “Okja” (pictured above) and Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.”
To be sure, Netflix also sees an opportunity to incrementally boost its subscriber rolls as well as burnish its brand with the eco-friendly content initiative.

This article contains Stargirl spoilers.
Stargirl is the sort of superhero show that has no right to be as good as it is. A story about a teenager discovering a glowing, sentient staff and fighting supervillains with names like “The Gambler” in a costume that’s little more than a midriff-baring Captain America rip-off should, in all honesty, be a joke. Therefore, the fact that it’s actually one the best DC television series currently on the air may come as a surprise to many, but this little show has proven over the course of its first season that there’s basically nothing it can’t do.
A perfect mix of heartfelt optimism and deep cut fan service, Stargirl soars because it trusts both its characters and its audience. This is a show that encourages its viewers to embrace complexity and to hold often competing concepts together in the same moment for maximum narrative impact.

Netflix Giving 2% Of Cash Going Forward To Economic Development Of Black Communities, $100M To Start
Netflix said Tuesday that going foward it will allocate 2% of its cash holdings — initially up to $100 million — to financial institutions and organizations that directly support Black communities as part of a commitment to racial equity
“We know great stories can create empathy and understanding. Stories like Ava DuVernay’s 13th and Explained’s Racial Wealth Gap show how systemic racism in America has sustained a centuries-long financial gap between Black and White families,” the company said in blog post by Aaron Mitchell, Director, Talent Acquisition and Shannon Alwyn, Director, Treasury.
“We believe bringing more capital to these communities can make a meaningful difference for the people and businesses in them, helping more families buy their first home or save for college, and more small businesses get started or grow.”
