It just keeps getting better.

Warning: Spoilers
The Boys is a program that shows us deeply flawed characters and fleshes them out completely. It takes the superhero genre to a dark, bitter place it hasn't ever been before, and I can't recommend it enough.

This, the seventh (of eight) episode of season one, reveals the reason for the respective psychoses of Butcher and Homelander, two very bad and dangerous people who are bad for different reasons and dangerous on different levels. It also brings to reality the doomed fairy tale romance between Hughie and Annie. It also expands the global peril caused by the actions of Vaught. It has action and brutal violence; pathos and genuine tension.

This is good stuff. Watch it.

Another great episode.

Warning: Spoilers
The penultimate episode of season one is another belter, with several standout scenes that still qualify the show as one of the most daring and demented currently streaming. In this one, Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) consummate their relationship, A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) has his leg smashed by The Female (Karen Fukuhara), Billy (Karl Urban) deals with Mesmer (Haley Joel Osment), and The Deep (Chace Crawford) gets his gills fingered during a kinky sex session.

We also get to learn a little more about why Billy hates supes so much (his wife died giving birth to a supe baby, the result of her affair with Homelander), and see Starlight struggle to come to terms with the fact that her boyfriend Hughie isn't all he seems. All in all, another excellent episode in a show that keeps on delivering the goods. Only one more to go, but season two is in the works - yay!

Butchers past is revealed. Starlight gets conflicted with Hughie. The episode is one fun melodrama.

Thrilling

A great episode again. The plot moves forward in strong ways and it's all very thrilling. Interspersed with big dramatic scenes and violence while the whole thing has a veneer of quality.

"Better to be loyal to a dead woman who doesn't know and doesn't care - how's that working out for you?"

This episode continues to justify as to why The Boys is a well crafted TV series. The tension builds well, resulting in a satisfying ending, appropriate for a penultimate episode of a season.

Starlight Down?!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Queen Maeve, it is 8 years ago and it's Christmas. Becca and Billy have a conversation with Homelander. Hughie and Starlight are having sex for the first time. Homelander remembers who Billy is. Homelander tells to The Five that Hughie killed Translucent. Starlight is in shock. A-Train holds Hughie's father as hostage. Kimiko slams down A-Train's leg, he is heavily wounded. Billy is chasing down Mesmer. Billy beats up Mesmer. Billy knocks Mesmer on the bath table, he died afterwards. In the past: Grace told to Billy thay Homelander has something to do with Becca's abduction. Naqib blows up a entire building. Billy shot down Starlight. Nice Episode of The Boys Season 1, a little bit dissapointed. A bit action, but still worth an 8!

Decent but Rushed
smittyx54983 December 2020
A good episode but rushed. I understand that its season 1 and they need to start developing the story to catch viewers but so many major plot points were revealed way too quickly killing the mystery aspect.

Still a good show looking forward to future seasons

S1.E7 - Exciting Episode [9/10]

Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E7) My Reaction / Review for The Boys Season 1 Episode 7 ''The Self-Preservation Society'': Episode 6 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. We get to see a flashback with Homelander, Becca and Butcher, I love it. A train cant live without compound V, it seems like V is killing him and I love it, he is such a jerk. Wow, the Deep's body looks disgusting. Wow Butcher absolutely destroyed Mesmer, that was super brutal and gory. Wait so Homelander is a dad? Awesome. Wait the baby died? That sucks. If you think about how Homelander grew up it makes sense he is a psycho. Overall another exciting episode, my rating is 9/10.

There's probably more to the story.

Warning: Spoilers
I feel like there's more to the story regarding what happened to Becca. Billy said that Homelander ra*ed her but we don't know if that's how it went down. And given how surprisingly expressive and emotional Homelander was when talking to the doctor unless that was all an act and how Billy is starting to become more evil-like, it wouldn't surprise me if Homelander is not as bad as we thought excluding the shooter he killed in the third episode and not even attempting to save the people on the place or at least some of them.

Doesn't feel badass enough
shwetafabm20 August 2020
I felt like the boys just don't have the dynamic and badassery they should have at this point. The whole thing blows up in a stupid manner. The Gill scene is disturbing but well new i suppose. The thing in the middle with Annie is just slowly building up.
