If you're a car fanatic...
ibrian7 August 2019
If you're a car fanatic, you'll probably like this film more than the four other reviews. The DeLorean dressed as a "Back to the Future" vehicle has become this guy's business. It's booked for promos, shows, parades, etc and is enough to pay his way in life. As the car needs repairs, he decides to engine swap hence the title and decision to make a documentary of the process. The problem is that all sorts of problems happen along the way, mixing family with business and the documentary itself is no longer the original arc. How and what direction will the titled story take shape? Will the business survive the family problems? If you're a car fanatic and have you're business on the line, what do you do? You can watch this movie. But if you're an expert at racing 1/4 miles or building high power street-rods, these guys will be well below your league. Although resurrecting the costs of building a fast car, a business and a documentary have lessons for everyone.

A Roller Coaster Ride I Didn't Expect
Mr64Source24 August 2020
Had heard about the movie from a friend and as a big fan of the Back to the Future series and the DeLorean it sounded like it could be interesting. What I didn't know is that it would be a real-life journey, and one that was often quite grueling. It dealt not just with the car but also with family, friends, and unexpected good fortune in the form of help from strangers... in many ways making the stated goal of the movie's title more of the scaffold for everything else that happened but that was honestly far more interesting.

Does Adam come out of the journey victorious and unscathed? Not by a long-shot (be sure to wait for the very end), and the seemingly never-ending struggles with his car seem to mirror the many obstacles he has with his own interpersonal challenges, anxieties, and scrapes at times with what feels like rock bottom. Nevertheless he perseveres and that's what really sucked me in.

Truly in order to get the full experience you need to see this back-to-back with the follow-up which deals with the sort of cliffhanger at the end and where Adam attempts to make things right. There's an earnestness to his desire to not just meet his ambitious goals but to reconcile with family and to show true appreciation for the many people who aided him in his journey and who he likely wouldn't have found success without. If you're looking for gearhead muscle car porn this will definitely disappoint but if you enjoy seeing people with immense challenges before them claw their way to success it's quite inspiring.

Fantastic!

You see a passionate guy who has a dream of owning a car from his childhood, then one ups that by wanting to build the fastest delorean in the world. You see a realistic and true story but sadly how things can change. Fantastic, brilliant and the most inspiring movie I've sat down and watched! Doing exactly what Adam does but with herbie replicas I've built I feel the struggle and pain he has gone through. Truly brilliant Adam!

Definitely one side of a sibling rivalry story
reozone24 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
All in all, a decent documentary with a lot of flaws. Don's presence in the film was all good. Adam obviously told the story from his point of view and, although he resorted to text records for part of the dialogue between himself and Kenny, we really didn't get to see his brother's side of the story. I think the 15 year difference in ages was a huge factor. Note to Kenny: Leave a review! Regarding the build and quest for fastest "D", too much time was spent moaning and groaning about the mysterious power dip and the inability to get above the magical 500 hp number and less spent on figuring out how to get his number down. HELLO! McFly! It's not just about HP. It's also about weight. A stock DMC with a time machine upgrade is a dog compared to stock. Did any of the other fastest DeLorean contenders have that done to their car? I doubt it. When Adam finally got smart and started to remove weight, all I could do was shake my head and say "finally!" One last thing. Are we just left scratching our collective heads at the end when the motor caught fire? What caused it? Was it overheating? Burst fuel line? Electrical? And was it just a nod to the BTTF movies to say "to be continued" or is Adam actually going to try and resurrect his car?

A rude DeLorean owner, with no respect for the car or his brother
stlegion16 June 2019
Although the build was interesting, the car was treated with no respect, and half of the film was the main guy verbally abusing his brother. There was far too much swearing for the film. Also, he says he needs to swap a Volvo engine out for relaibility? He needs to do his homework, as the engines are strong.

This was a mess, of a documentary
friendlyengineering21 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Real stretch of a story, kid brother builds the worlds fastest Dolorean then gets beaten up by the older brother for the rest of the movie. Spends a lot of time painting a picture of a bad brother, but still breaks the record?
