Exclusive: Pulsar Content has acquired world sales rights for Joséphine Japy’s upcoming feature The Wonderers following a family navigating the severe disability of the youngest daughter.
Produced by Cowboys Films, the feature marks Japy’s first time in the director’s chair.
The actress was recently seen in Netflix’s BAFTA-winning fictionalized Bernard Tapie biopic Class Act, with previous credits including On The Wandering Paths, Love At Second Sight, Breathe, as well as Claude François biopic My Way, early on in her career.
Set against the backdrop of a summer on the French riviera, the drama revolves around the Roussier family and its fragile equilibrium shaped by the uncertain diagnosis of its youngest daughter, 13-year-old Bertille, who suffers from a severe disability.
Her parents and 17-year-old older sister Marion live in constant fear of losing her. Disconnected from typical teenage dreams, Marion seeks escape in a relationship with an older boy.

A craftily conceived mashup of 50 First Dates, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and other notable rom-coms involving love, memory and dubious quantum theories, Love at Second Sight (Mon inconnue) is an enjoyable if rather superficial third feature from French writer-director Hugo Gelin (Just Like Brothers).
Slickly made and starring the likeable duo of Francois Civil and Josephine Japy, the film follows a best-selling Ya writer, Raphael, who wakes up in a parallel universe to find out he’s turned into a total loser, while his wife, Olivia, has become a famous pianist engaged to another man. Studiocanal has sold near all of the world outside the U.S. on Hugo Gélin’s “Love at Second Sight.” The European production-distribution-sales giant, part of Vivendi’s Canal Plus Group, has also kicked off promising sales on a panoply of new foreign-language titles, such as Yvan Attal’s “My Dog Stupid,” Cedric Klapisch’s “Someone Somewhere” and animated feature “Samsam.”
“Our mission at Studiocanal is to ensure we make high-quality European cinema with strong global potential,” said Anna Marsh, Studiocanal Evp, international distribution.
Described by Marsh as a “key title, a high concept movie which really appeals.” “Love at Second Sight” stars François Civil as a young best-selling novelist who forgets the love of his life in one world to wake up in another where she’s a world-famous pianist who’s never met him.
Combining large ambition, a questioning take on gender equality in relationships, and a director whose 2017 debut,...

After a vibrant Sundance, driven by Amazon Studios’ $47 million spending spree, can Berlin sales prove as buoyant? While there are some intriguing titles, indies have to contend with, among many factors, very active buyers from deep-pocketed streamers and a volatile theatrical box office in many territories.
Certainly there are star-studded titles. FilmNation will sell Hugh Jackman starrer “Reminiscence,” a sci-fi romance thriller from “Westworld” creator Lisa Joy. Aaron Sorkin directs “The Trial of the Chicago 7” that sports a starry cast including Seth Rogen and Eddie Redmayne. Rocket Science is handling sales.
In other high-profile offerings, Agc Studios is shopping sci-fi thriller “Voyagers” from Neil Burger (“Divergent”).
Mel Gibson and Tye Sheridan star in Imr Intl.’s thriller “Black Flies,” which screens a promo of Guy Ritchie’s crime actioner “Bush,” with Matthew McConaughey.
Sierra/Affinity reps true-crime drama “Silk Road,” with Nick Robinson and Jason Clarke, and “Lexi,” a “really cool comedy,...
