The beach is officially closed: ABC has cancelled the Poppy Montgomery summer drama Reef Break after one season, TVLine has learned. A network source confirms that ABC will not be ordering more episodes and the series is not planned to return.

ABC’s Reef Break wrapped its freshman run on Friday night — pushed back a day by the Democratic Debate — with 2.1 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating, up in audience versus its penultimate episode while steady in the demo.
Reef Break Season 1 averaged fewer than 2 million weekly total viewers along with a 0.31 demo rating, ranking last on both counts among ABC’s summertime fare. It has not fared as well as either of ABC’s one-and-done scripted offerings from last summer, Take Two (which averaged 2.7 mil/0.42) or The Last Defense (2.1 mil/0.43).

“Reverie” has been canceled by NBC after one season, an individual with knowledge of the decision told TheWrap on Tuesday.
The sci-fi drama’s first — and now only — installment premiered in May and wrapped in August after a 10-episode run. “Reverie” averaged a 0.6 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic, making it one of the lowest-rated shows of Summer 2018, tying with “Trial & Error,” “The Last Defense,” “Take Two” and “What Would You Do?” for seventh place on that list.
From Mickey Fisher, the creator of “Extant,” the thriller followed Mara Kint (Sarah Shahi), a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior who became a college professor after facing an unimaginable personal tragedy. But when she’s brought in to save ordinary people who have lost themselves in a highly advanced virtual-reality program in which you can literally live your dreams, she finds that in saving others, she may...

Summer may not exactly be the Mecca of TV seasons, but people need to beat the heat somehow. Sometimes, that involves vegging out on the couch in front of the air-conditioner — might as well flip on the boob tube.
We know that NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and CBS’ “Big Brother” are staples of July and August, but what new potential hits were introduced in Summer 2018?
NBC’s “Making It” had the best debut among new series in June, July and August; CBS’ “Tko: Total Knock Out,” hosted by Kevin Hart, was No. 2.

As some of its scripted programming has floundered, in the last couple of years, ABC has been beefing up its non-scripted slate. In addition to the new docu-series The Last Defense, the network has also introduced The Proposal TV show, from The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss. Without "bachelor" in the title, will the first season fare as well in the Neilsen ratings race, as other Fleiss shows? Will The Proposal be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
An ABC dating reality TV series, The Proposal is hosted by Jesse Palmer, with Ellen K announcing. In each episode, matchmakers select contestants, who then progress through "pageant-style" elimination rounds. Summer may be in its final stretch but on the Big 4 and the CW last night things were rockin’ with debuts, a finale, a lot of competition series and another win for America’s Got Talent (1.9/9)
However, with The Wall host and guest judge Chris Hardwick making his on-air return since being investigated for sexual assault allegations in mid June, the summer powerhouse did take a bit of a hit on Tuesday. Down 10% among adults 18-49 from its July 31 show, last night’s Agt was a season low for the show.
Still, with Agt the highest rated show of Tuesday and Week 2 of the Amy Poelher and Nick Offerman fronted Making It (1.0/5) down a tenth from its premiere, NBC topped the night. The Comcast-owned net, which is having its TCA presentation today, snared a 1.6/7 rating and 8.72 million viewers – that’s down tenth from July 31 in the demo but up a touch in total audience.

ABC’s “The Last Defense” is living up to its name for subject Julius Jones.
Thanks to some new evidence of racial bias uncovered by the ABC documentary, death row-inmate Jones could get a new hearing from the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals (Occa), which has now withdrawn a June order denying a defense attorney’s requests to look at evidence of racial bias by a jury, per The City Sentinel. The judges also concluded they could not ignore court mismanagement of exhibits earlier this year.
“The Last Defense” found that one of the jurors who convicted Jones, who is black, in the 1999 murder of Paul Howell used the N-word during deliberations about the then-defendant.

Julius Jones was a 19 year-old star athlete who ran around with the wrong crowd and then was fingered for murdering an upper class white man Paul Howell in a carjacking gone wrong, but ABC’s new docu-series The Last Defense has over the past three weeks been re-examining the case, tearing holes in the prosecution’s case with one valid question after another including how racism played out in the case. Now, the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals is going to take another look at the case, and Jones’ lawyer is crediting The Last Defense for bringing national attention to racism in the criminal justice system.
The show, which aired at 10 Pm on ABC was a seven-part series in its first season that ended Tuesday night. On Wednesday, it was reported on ABC’s Oklahoma affiliate Koco that the Appeals Court decided to take a look at racism as it relates to the Jones’ case.

NBC finished first in primetime’s total viewers Wednesday with the new night and time for J. Lo’s “World of Dance” — but the network ended up in third among adults 18-49.
CBS and Fox edged NBC by one-tenth of a Nielsen in the advertiser-coveted demographic. For Fox, well, it was another night to be thankful it doesn’t program 10 p.m. nationally like CBS, NBC and ABC do.
“Big Brother” beat “World of Dance” straight-up in their only head-to-head hour at 8, though Jennifer Lopez’s dance competition topped the charts at 9.

Summer 2018 is officially here tomorrow but it is already hot for NBC once again with America’s Got Talent (2.1/9) back to dominate primetime for the Comcast-owned network.
Yes, even with the early hours for most matches, the World Cup is scoring solidly for Fox but when you look at ratings like what NBC got on Tuesday, it was a Tuesday blowout.
Even with Agt dipping a tenth from its fast affiliates of June 12 (which went up a tenth in the final numbers), NBC’s overall rating of 1.9/9 and 9.88 million viewers beat encore heavy ABC and CBS and a Beat Shazam (0.7/3) airing Fox combined. A fun state to cite, and one NBC love to repeat no doubt, it doesn’t hurt that World of Dance (1.4/6) was the same as its final numbers of last week too.
Otherwise, the Jamie Fox fronted Shazam was the same as its June 12 fast affiliates...

Well, that was quite a pileup. NBC dominated another Tuesday night with “Agt” and “World of Dance,” when Fox was one-tenth of a Nielsen ratings point away from causing a five-network tie for second place.
Thankfully, “Beat Shazam” did decently, and Fox ended up alone at No. 2 in the key 18-49 demographic. CBS, ABC, Univision and Telemundo all tied for third in the demo — The CW came in last.
NBC was first in ratings with a 1.9 rating/8 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 9.9 million, according to preliminary numbers. At 8 p.m., “America’s Got Talent” scored a 2.1/10 and 11.7 million viewers. “World of Dance” at 10 earned a 1.4/6 and 6.3 million viewers.

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare to find those entrusted with their children are truly monsters. Below are four real-life stories of babysitters who have snapped — for the most sinister reasons. And if their "pure evil" actions don't get under your skin, then just note that they all didn't happen that long ago... The Manhattan Horror Story (Photo Credit: Getty Images) It was the question on everyone's lips in the trial earlier this month — why would Yoselyn Ortega, a seemingly innocent nanny, murder the children she watches — Lucia, 6, and Leo, 3 — in the cold blood? On Oct. 25, 2012, Marina panicked when she and her daughter Nessie, three, arrived at Lucia's ballet class to discover she hadn't arrived. Marina rushed back to her Manhattan home to find her children in a blood-splattered bathtub and a kitchen knife dumped in the sink. Finally, in a case that shocked the world, Yoselyn admitted why...

NBC’s Marlon Wayans summer sitcom dropped 42 percent in ratings from its Season 1 to Season 2 premiere. With last night’s soft performance, NBC settled for fourth place among adults 18-49 — the demographic most coveted by broadcast primetime advertisers.
CBS, ABC and Fox all split a first-place tie in the demo, finishing just one-tenth of a ratings point higher than NBC.

Fox edged NBC Wednesday to finish first in ratings for the adults 18-49 demographic. It helped that Fox doesn’t nationally program the 10 p.m. hour, which NBC and the rest of the Big 4 broadcast networks do.

The premiere of the ABC documentary series “The Last Defense” failed to capture a substantial audience on Tuesday night.
The docu-series, which is executive produced by Viola Davis and Julius Tennon, explores flaws in the American justice system through the cases of Darlie Routier and Julius Jones. The premiere episode averaged a 0.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.7 million viewers. That was good enough to tie CBS’ “48 Hours: NCIS” in the demo, yet “The Last Defense” finished last in the timeslot in total viewers.
Still, “The Last Defense” drew ABC’s biggest summertime audience to the 10 p.m. hour since August 2016. ABC aired only repeats prior to 10 p.m.

On July 28, 1999, insurance executive Paul Scott Howell was shot in the head and robbed of his Gmc Suburban in his parents' driveway in Edmond, Ok. The 45-year-old was returning from a back-to-school shopping trip with his two young daughters and his sister. Nearly two-and-a-half years later, 21-year-old Julius Jones was convicted of first-degree murder in the case, as well as conspiracy to commit a felony. He was a University of Oklahoma freshman on a Presidential Leadership Scholarship at the time. And now, after nearly two decades on death row, Jones is the subject of national news again as one of the subjects of new ABC docu-series The Last Defense. Like Darlie Routier, the other death-row inmate profiled on the series, Jones has always maintained his innocence. During his trial, his attorneys put the blame on Jones' co-defendant, then-22-year-old Christopher Jordan, who had admitted to telling different stories. In his closing argument,...

Texas woman Darlie Routier has sat on death row for two decades now, ever since her 1997 conviction for the murder of one of her two slain children. Some think the case is open-and-shut, but others believe Routier has been framed for the grisly deaths of sons Devon, 6, and Damon, 5. Now, a new TV show called The Last Defense, executive produced by Viola Davis, will reinvestigate the events of June 6, 1996, in Rowlett, TX. At 2 a.m. local time that night, Routier called 911, yelling, "They just stabbed me and my children." When first responders showed up to her house, they found the then-26-year-old wife and mother holding a towel to a stab wound on her neck. They also found Devon dead and Damon dying, both boys having sustained deep stab wounds to the chest. Routier told the cops she had woken up to find a man on top of her, but soon they grew suspicious.
