Entertaining but WTF
loriabeairsto24 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
One judge, seriously? The two in the final did not belong there, I was very surprised. I think having one judge was a big mistake. In the final challenge Cassie's living room was blah and the master bdrm yikes and the nursery nice but harsh colours for a baby. Franks living room was lovely but guest room not so much. I loved the master bdrm. I think the finalists should have been Ju and Nicki.

Disappointed in outcome
adriennebdority24 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was incredibly disappointed with all the talented designers as they were sent home one by one from the beginning nearly. It is a good show but I was in shock at the end of who won. She should have been kicked off after Hotel Chocolate. That was the most horrific room I have ever seen, and at that ignored the brief. The best ones that should have won were sent home. The "one" judge was very contradicting with her advice each episode. Listen to your client or get sent home....don't listen to your client and raise the bar. Loved it when Cassie's client informed her he didn't like green and she painted his business in green! Yes and how this individual won, I am still scratching my head. Nikki or Frank should have won. Perhaps with a couple of other men who were booted off in no time. Judge has bad taste.

Mixed Feeling
balhareth22 October 2019
The fact that a show like this had only one judge destroyed the show. I think there should be a second judge and the guests should be involved in the decision making. The finalists definitely did NOT deserve to be there.

Potential
lisabaez3324 October 2019
I was hooked to this show until I found a major flaw. The selection of who was eliminated has major flaws.Proof of this was the winner who by herself designed one of the most unpractical, horrible hotel rooms I have ever seen! That is the winner? Seriously? You need more people involve in the decision to better filter through the choices. I did love that each episode did not feel to long or dramatic.

Good, but could have been better
honest-movie-tv-reviews21 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I've just finished bingeing this and didn't watch it week to week. It was mostly good to watch and had some funny moments. I pretty much liked it, some of the designs were great, but there were quite a few faults that brought it down for me. Mostly with the format and judging though. I was also put off by some of the contestants and their backbiting.

It often seemed a bit too geared to the drama/conflict angle and it never made sense to me at points why they were in teams or why they were suddenly given random things in the brief (chocolate themed hotel rooms?!). I would have preferred to have seen more of them designing, working with their clients and talking about how and why they were doing things as they did in the GIDC.

The judging seemed really weird as well. They were conflicting themselves all the time. Telling someone to listen to the client more and design for them and then the next minute telling another contestant to push the client more and show their off their own style. There were multiple episodes where it seemed unfair on who got sent home. People were kept in when they had a bad week, but then got sent home later when there were worse than theirs. Not sure if it was the judging or the editing or both, but it was a little frustrating. I was pretty surprised by who made it to the final. It kind of made the end result a bit meh...

On the plus side I thought Fearne was a great presenter and brought it up a bit. Not sure if it was just the judges it would have been as good.

Will be interesting to see if there's another series. I would no doubt watch it again, but hopefully they tweak the format a bit!

Amateurs or professionals?
ashleybailey-3401922 October 2019
Are the contestants amateurs or professionals (masters)? I'm sure they mentioned them having businesses or already working as interior designers, but one was a restaurant manager and another was a lawyer? I was confused and seems a bit unfair in a competition!

Besides this and the awful judging the program was ok. I think the 1 star reviews are harsh, but I just can't see it getting another series.

Like the format and challenges, but the judging has failed
GLArm23 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed watching this show, except for one thing: Cassie the winner absolutely should have been sent home in three previous episodes! The show's major flaw is having one judge, instead of a panel of three.

Times Cassie absolutely should have been sent home:

Episode 2: Her hotel room was the absolute worst, hands down! It was hideous and the only one I would have refused to stay in if I had a reservation at the hotel. The woman they sent home did have too many knickknacks in the room, but it was a pleasant and welcoming space that I would have enjoyed as a guest.

Episode 5: The wallpaper Cassie chose for the living area was a real negative for the setting: a vacation house in a rural, pastoral setting. It was the worst thing by far of the redecorated house, which was a huge loser to the one done by Ju and Nicky - who in my opinion hit it out of the park with their lovely & charming decor. I loved their two bedrooms! The house was the best of the series, along with the yarn shop designed by Nicky.

Episode 7: Each of the 3 finalists re-did a hair salon or barber shop. While none of them were perfect, I would have been happy to go as a customer to Frank's and Ju's. Cassie's was really hideous. The guest judge said he couldn't decide if the clashing green colors was pleasure or pain. In my mind, it was PAIN. The whole place from the yucky, depressing colors to the antlers covering one large space was a real downer!

THREE TIMES Cassie should have been sent home and wasn't! It's too bad that this show didn't have a better judge or a panel of judges to counteract the one bad one they did have!

Great potential . Horrible judging
ndarwish27 October 2019
I binge watched this show in almost two days . The challenges were Interesting and the candidates were good . It's the judging that was crap . They literally sent anyone with talent home and chose a winner that should have been eliminated day 1 and no this is not a case of "all great artists are controversial , mainstream don't get it" no this is pure idiot judging

It was an enjoyable series but the finale was a joke imo, she definitely didn't deserve to win or get pass the first couple of challenges.

Judge Messed Up
leahbrito7 November 2019
Nicky has more talent. The least the judge could have done was to push both contestants through to episode 7. I picked up a subtle bit of peer-aged jealousy from episode one. It's a shameful classic example of how people in higher positions can misuse their power. I hope Nicky continues pushed forward because her vision HAS classy forward thinking. Elle UK is clearly losing future vision.

I really enjoyed this show, but...
blackcatrox22 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this show but I feel like the judging was off. Like other reviewers have stated, it would have been a lot more fair to have more than one judge. I don't think the judge took into account each contestants past designs as much as she should have. Nicki, Ju and Frank were the best in my opinion. I very much expected Cassie to have gone home much earlier in the show, everything she did was very underwhelming/outdated compared to the other contestants. I was truly surprised and disappointed she won. I do hope there are more seasons made with more judges added to the panel.

Perfect Start, Underwhelming Ending
artmusicanimelover30 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
THE PERFECT BEGINNING for a brand new type of challenge base show! However, towards the end I felt so left down.

Okay don't get me wrong I loooove all the female energy of this show, truly lovely, but there is a such thing as needing the balance of both spectrums. I believe it would've benefited with at least 2 base judges, and a guest each week rather than the one judge the whole time.

The ending might be different for others but honestly I feel she chose her in a bias stand point. Yes I get that it's " Me Too " movement area and all of this, but you HAVE to give the right kind of support and credit. Because I believe he should've gotten it; and here's why from early on he did his best to take in everything that was told to him, and would admit when something was with extreme humbleness. That kind of resolve is what a designer should have. While his competition had the worst answer to a simple question " Doy ou feel you thought of the baby outside of the nursery? " She looked confused and went " Baby?... Baby... Ummm " who answers that way??? Anyway I hope and hope Season 2 is better and more improved if there is any next time

Disappointed
flordiper-5282818 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the show overall but I think Cassie winning ruined it for me. Her designs are so impractical. Her hotel room was the worst one I've ever seen. Her design for the bedroom in the final episode was about her and not the clients and how come no one mentioned how AWFUL it is for her to have used black for a nursery???!!! No thoughts of the baby whatsoever, the new furniture for the kitchen looked hard to clean which isn't good with a baby on the way, just awful. Frank should've won.

Trashy styles make for hilarious moments
vettefreak9023 October 2019
Do all British people have such bad taste? I realize that they're under pretty intense time crunches, but what are some of these people thinking?! Look at the fit and finish of some of this stuff and be amazed that they made it to television. Maybe that's the point, though. Are the producers making fun of people who are completely oblivious?

Very bad judges - disappointing results? R u kidding me?
alexindc5 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The show was entertaining but the result is so unfair. I have to literally create this account to write this review. Design taste is a very subjective thing. There is no right or wrong, but the result is just ridiculous and cannot convince me. Cassie should have been kicked out at the very beginning. Her design is absolutely ameteur and has no stylish elements in it. Her taste is very unique and can only meet a very small part of the audience.

I also don't see that she is capable of completing this important commercial contract. Feel sorry for the sponsor!

Vote for Frank and Niki.

Good Show - Bad Judging
enriquez-9210329 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The show's structure is very fun and interesting, but the singular judge managed to mess things up, by getting rid of the better contestants and eventually letting one of the weakest designers skate all the way to the win. The title of master should have gone to Frank, Ju, or Nikki. The end was a complete travesty. The judge had a great warmth and attitude, but lacked a substantive basis for many of her decisions.

Great show with bad judges
ghees-2483715 March 2020
I loved this show. The only downfall is the judges who make the final choices have opinions that wouldn't match ANYONE else's.

Binge-watched, but...
GoldenShore21 July 2020
Wish I could rate higher because this is the show that got me hooked on other interior design shows like Apartment and Great Design Challenge. However, it's impossible to undermine the major flaws of the format: giving absolute power to only one judge and asking contestants to demonstrate their talent and signature styles via chaotic "teamwork"-based war zones. Perhaps starting with a smaller group of contestants and including more opportunities for sole-masterminded work may have helped with the overall outcome. For accountability purposes, the guest judges should have had voting power.

Maybe British Aesthetics is Different...
jieleimail30 October 2019
The show was okay. Loved the challenges and different spaces. However, I'm very surprised by who the judges choose as the winner. I personally didn't like any of the solo designs that this designer did-and based on the judges own criteria, this designer didn't stick to design briefs. Very confusing judging and uninspired design by the winner.

Frank should have won
vfranco-9098324 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show was decently good, they were great designs and the people were great. The fact that Cassie won was absurd. I'm not sure what you guys do in England but your taste is disgusting. Frank blew it out of the water what a shame that he didn't win.

A goat would have a better sense of interior design judging than the lady in the show. She sucks balls.
