Not your average type of dating show!
edwin_hoekstra5 February 2020
I really enjoyed watching all episodes in a row. The dark secrets from the contestants are revealed in a nice tempo and keeps you interested in the whole affair. Contestants give the impression to be genuine and their stories also.. I will definitely watch next season when available.

Who would have thought putting 18 "troubled" people together and making them fall in love would make for interesting TV ??
sammyjaya15 December 2021
Honestly this show is so bad but also so disgustingly enjoyable to watch. I finished the whole thing in a night. Like the hosts and some of the contestants are actually insufferable. Its so cringeworthy you'll start to question out loud why on earth you're still watching it. It's just a bunch of troubled people sharing their "issues" for a tv show as opposed to going to therapy. But my god does it make for great viewing. The pacing was good too. The male host might be the worst and most insufferable host I've ever come across. I guess the casting was good for the show though because he fit right in with some of the worst in the show.

You genuinely cannot guess some of the secrets these people have. You think you'll guess right and then suddenly they throw this huge curveball at you that you didn't even consider. It's more fun to just make a game out of it. Sometimes they're much more tame than anticipating but some others you legitimately cannot fathom someone would admit to. It honestly makes you gasp out loud. One of the guys is a genuine menace and it's worthwhile watching for his reveal alone.

::Spoiler Warning below::

------------------------------------------------------------- ::Spoiler warning:: I was genuinely happy for some of the contestants like the trans woman and the guy she was with and also scarf guy. Man I love scarf guy. I also really loved the mv debt girl, she was so cute I hope she's doing okay and escaped that creepy old guy. God that dude had the absolute worst personality I've ever come across. A legit potential offender. And also the ED guy.

Binged watched the whole thing. Refreshing new twist to dating show - Very interesting... real "flaws"
pinokiyo27 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Rea(l)ove adds a new twist to a dating show where every participant has a dark secret that makes it difficult for them to date.

The secret is "randomly" exposed throughout the show so everyone's behavior can change drastically before and after they find out their dark secret.

Some of them are actually not that big of a deal and others are a bit hard to accept. What's interesting is how they added similar dark secrets for the male side and female side; seeing who gets attracted to who before they know the secret and after adds another layer of entertainment.

I also watch Terrace House, Ainori, but this was a fresh new twist. The camerawork isn't nice like Terrace House and seems a bit amateurish at times, but it is entertaining.

The contestants may seem like "freaks" to some viewers, but most of them had faced major trauma and you realize how they ended up that way. I think having those flaws and being able to own up to those to the public makes them more human/real; that's what I like about this show. The show has some emotional moments.

The host is Atsushi Tamura who was known for a famous show called "London Hearts", where it also involved exposing cheaters/dating related and was a huge hit back in the day. It seems like he turned into a grumpy old man as he's really brutal and doesn't hold back at all on his opinion to the contestants.

The random cards the host is selecting seems a bit fishy because the last few cards left were the two that both happen to like the same person/adding greater drama.

--- SPOILERS: --- If you want to know what the "dark secrets" are, continue reading, if not, don't read further:

The dark secrets were being porn stars, sleeping with hundreds of people, cross dressing, transgendered, and the rest that were more tame compared to those were being in financial debt ($10,000), trauma from being cheated on, being an action figure collector, sent to prison for money laundering...

The worst one was definitely the dreamless bum guy who moved to Tokyo with no purpose -- who can't get it up unless he sees another couple having an affair... he had nothing going for him. It's funny because nobody wanted him even before he exposed his dark secret... and that just sealed it even more.

The 40 year old office worker who does livestreaming crossdressing was probably the most entertaining dark secret twist. Surprisingly, his secret made him even more popular. The financial debt girl who paid $8000 for a crappy music video was super weird but hilarious. It's funny the weird crossdresser old man was attracted to her... they match.

I thought it was funny how the biggest jerk on the show, who got into a fight with the another guy, has a short temper/seems like an idiot, where he has no right to make fun of other's dark secret -- ended up falling for a transgender. I was thinking, "Like really? you're making fun of everyone and you're technically falling for a dude..."

It was especially funny how insensitive and dumb he sounded to her when he kept asking "Wait, but you're still a girl, right?!"

But then again, it makes sense for him because his dark secret was being molested by a girl when he was young, so he's okay with a transgender. Everything is just crazy. What's also interesting though is that they ended up being the most legit couple.

Overall, the show made me binge watch the whole thing and it was pretty enjoyable for me. I mean, if you've seen London Hearts, it's typical Atsushi production.

I hope they come out with a season 2, but change the whole random card thing.

Watched the season two times now!
ferrari_sj22 February 2022
I first watched this when it was released and was really immersed in the colourful characters they brought in!

The main host makes the show and in the one behind it all

Now in 2022 I've watched it again, enjoying it more than the first time round. I am hoping they release another season

Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu.

Deplorable
emmyboden17 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having lived in Japan, I'm always quick to watch any Japanese releases on Netflix. I'd never heard of this show and was looking forward to some light-hearted entertainment alas, they've truly scraped the bottom of the barrel to put together this show, from the host to the participants. It's just in bad taste and I found nothing redeemable about it. Could barely abide 3 episodes before I checked out!

I switched off after the poor guy who'd be cheated on revealed his secret and there was zero sympathy or tact in the way both the male and female host responded. He repeatedly expressed how painful this experience had been, leaving him traumatised etc. And the narcissist hosts kept mocking him and laughing like little hyenas. More respect was shown for the porn star and sex addict. Also, a girl that's had 10 sexual partners is apparently much worse and unacceptable than a man who's had 150 partners. Appalling!

Avoid this abysmal show but if your morbid curiosity leads you to watch it, prepare yourself for foul nonsense with no value!

I don't get why all that fuss about the show
akirajin-usp30 November 2023
The show is hilarious and well made.

Anyone who lived in Japan in the past must've watched the same genre of show being played in the middle of the night.

It's just different from what y'all are used to watch on Netflix. Just get over it.

Atsushi for example was always like that while playing manzaikonbi as London Boots comedian. Japanese people find hilarious when they make harsh comments. In Japanese culture, if you commit or did a bad thing in the past, you deserve to be mocked. You don't want people to make joke of you, don't get out of the line. Period.

That's one of japanese culture.

The misogyny is strong with this one
jackiee197021 February 2022
The host is an absolute misogynistic nightmare. How in earth did this get made?

Good grief, I persevered to episode three but I just can't stand it...

What is wrong with the world 2020
adamlarsen-399855 September 2020
I'm maybe really privileged, so this is probably not my rights to say or tell what is wrong or right. But I still can't believe that Netflix has this one their page, allowing people to watch /stream. So the co-host Atsushi Tamura is often very manchovonist in his thoughts and how he presents the women in the show.

Even though the show trying to be more modern and European or like Western countries, they hole things seems so outdated. The women should be like 1920s. And the men are just ok, almost no matter what they do.

Transphobic hosts
ravenlimbs22 July 2021
I liked the idea of the show, and some of the participants were interesting. However the two hosts of the show were absolutely insufferable. They kept making transphobic remarks, calling the transgender woman a man, mocking her voice, posture, basically anything insulting you can think of. If you're transgender and you don't want to feel uncomfortable watching a tv show, skip this one. It's very triggering and rage inducing.

Wanna see a host with the most punchable face?
WinstonUlt24 February 2022
The show would've been good if the male host wasn't so insufferable. He made jokes about raping the women on the show and hitting them over the head. His jokes weren't even funny. I hope he falls in a pit and never returns...

Repugnant
alicemorgan-883726 January 2023
The male host would insult all the female contestants until they cried, fantasising about sexual abuse and outright harassing them. It was even more disgusting to hear victims of abuse be told that it was their fault (if they were women). I hope he meets legal repercussions for his behaviour.

The show is tagged as LGBT on Netflix despite the hosts constantly ripping down a contestant for being trans and misgendering her. The program is a huge bummer as all the men on the show seem to do whatever they want at womens' expense. I completely understand why female sex workers refused to go through with participating on the program having seen how belittled and bullied the female contestants were for much less taboo secrets.

Should NOT be on Netflix
nimodam14 January 2023
Probably the worst show I ever watched, and I watched a lot of reality shows. The concept is I guess fine and makes you interested but the host and some of the contestants are so disgusting. I have never felt so angry at some of the people, just plain evil...Some of the gross comments made my mouth drop and made me really sad and I felt so discouraged by the fact that people like this are even on TV. As a woman, this show is devastating.. Granted, the concept about people's flaws and reality is there, like the show made some of the backstage drama public and that was very impressive, like this is a REAL, RAW TV show, which when you finally get, you don't want to see in reality. Also, keep in mind cultural differences. But putting things in perspective doesn't account for the fact that this show was just cruel and very sad, offensive, creepy and honestly scarring. Also - young people should not be allowed to see this.

Callins Someone a Loser or a Sl*t is Not funny
eksmith71-892-7004249 February 2024
OMG even in my title I had to put a Star to replace the S word - but this S word is used constantly in this show. I can have fun with joking about offensive subjects but how does it help when the hosts are calling the contestants such offensive terms?

I thought it was going to be really great to help those who were embarrassed about their past find a new start but was so difficult to watch because the host kept insulting the contestants in the name of humor. It was NOT FUNNY.

I am on episode 4 and have not fully given up yet...and I will update my review if the show redeems itself before the end.

I LOVE Asian programs but this one makes me sad and not in a good way.

Appalling

Warning: Spoilers
My girlfriend and I watch reality shows every now and then and we're used to casual misogyny being thrown around but this show was downright violent. The way the hosts and contestants belittle the women for "dark secrets" that are way more tame than the secrets of the men is disgusting. It's very hard to find anyone likeable or find any enjoyment in the show while trying to give a pass to the constant sexual harassment, objectification, and just overt hatred for women in the show. Not to mention the transphobia.

Terrace House and Love is Blind Japan were pretty fun and tame but this show made me rethink just how shamelessly sexist and backwards Japanese society can truly be. I feel sorry for them.

I can't believe what I just watched
b_e_x-334542 February 2024
I really enjoyed Love is Blind Japan and Love Deadline so I decided to try another Japanese reality dating show a go. However I was seriously floored by the male host and his commentary throughout. He was openly calling women very very nasty nicknames and even said to the group of men to not worry about their secrets as all the women were sl*ts anyway! He said that one of the women is the type to get r@ped and have kids at a young age because she's pretty. He was anti trans and very sexist! He didn't give the guys even a fraction of the same abuse.

I am flabbergasted that Netflix has allowed this stream and that this host Atsushi Tamuro has not had any repercussions from it and supposedly has continued on to host other reality shows.

I can't believe it
stheffanymerlin14 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The way the girl is COMPLAINING about the show not being real and things being staged and the host ignores it and tries to offend her. LMAO. It doesn't make any sense. He just tries to cover up what she is saying by being a bully, saying nonsense things. She complains about the cast creating situations and the host answer is that HE didn't do anything? She wasn't even talking about you. Oh my god. The girl spilling the tea and the nonsense keeps going, attacking her, trying to change the subject, viewers are not that numb. Horrible. I can't understand how they think that would be good to put in the show, they really think they did something there, huh? This show is just crazy, and I'm not even talking about the "jokes", it would be funny if I was 12yo since my mind was undeveloped at that time, but I'm so much better and guys, it's 2023! The only thing I could get from this show is how scary Japan can be. Don't waste your time with this, go watch some good anime, not this toxic and nonsense, staged series. My first language isn't english, i'm sorry about any mistakes.
