Sex & Nudity

  • Three songs in Act II reference a character's affair. Nothing graphic shown or addressed.
  • Sexual suggestive dialogue is said at various times, some including words like "intercourse" and "deflower." Hamilton is playfully referred to as "the tomcat."
  • The majority of a scene detailing a character's affair is merely narrated, but includes descriptions like "she led me to her bed/ let her legs spread."
  • Aaron Burr casually admits to an affair he is having with a married woman. He later has a daughter with her. (Though not depicted in the play, historically he did marry the woman after her husband was killed in war.)
  • Nudity: None

Violence & Gore

  • The battle scenes are not portrayed as violent as they are only expressed through dance.
  • As the film is of a theatrical production, all of the war and battles scenes are minimally depicted and mostly narrated. Nothing more than blood and wounding are described. No prop blood is ever used.
  • Historically accurate prop guns are used. Shooting is represented only through sound effects and a dancer miming a slow motion bullet.
  • Dueling is established as common (and legal in some situations) and occurs between several pairs of characters, major and minor.
  • No blood when violence occurs, very family friendly

Profanity

  • Swearing frequently occurs throughout the musical in 3 songs, including abuses of "Christ" and "Jesus." One of the songs (Yorktown) mutes the use of the 'f' word. There is an 'f' word during the song "Say No to This" and it is the only one Disney+ left uncensored. However, all 6 f bombs are left intact elsewhere.
  • Multiple uses of "shit," "damn," "ass," "bastard," "hell," and "whore" respectively. "Fuck" is explicitly said 6 times in the movie. One use of "prick" meant as an insult.
  • Mild swears including "damn" (9 uses), "hell" (4 uses), "piss" (3 uses), and "ass" (2 uses) heard throughout. And some strong language including "shit" and "fuck." The word "cuck" is also used once.
  • Hamilton says: Sit down John YOU FAT MOTHER FUCKER!
  • Several uses of G.D.
  • Two censored F-words in the show, four censored in the movie. All 6 are uncensored in the R rated version.
  • One verse that goes by "when you knock me down, I get the fuck back up again" is censored on Disney+ version only.
  • Say No To This: "You see, that was my wife that you decided to fuck"
  • The verse "southern motherfucking democratic republicans" is also censored on the Disney+ version only.
  • We Know (same as Say No To This): "You see, that was my wife that you decided to fuck"
  • Not in all songs, but in most of them, there are lots of cuss words.
  • The f bomb is dropped 6 times throughout
  • The words bastard and whore are in the first line of the opening song.
  • 50-60 uses of shit
  • The s word is said throughout the movie. If young kids watch it they'll learn a new word that is not so family friendly.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • At points throughout the film, characters are seen drinking in a bar. Alcohol is seen in glasses during a wedding scene.
  • Hamilton accuses Thomas Jefferson of "getting high with the French" during a debate.
  • Smoking: None
  • During a musical number beer steins are rhythmically banged on a table.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Strobe lights are used in a few scenes which may not be suitable for viewers who are seizure prone.
  • The songs "It's Quiet Uptown" and "Who Lives Who dies Who tells your story" are emotionally intense.
