From his opening song and annoyingly throughout Tom Heard was just a reason for me to dislike this film.
A nice story but you can tell this was written directed and starred Mr Heard and was just a vehicle for him to .... well sing annoyingly.
Pretty standard and samey to much better movies out there.

Couldn't wait for this to end

You know how some movies keep you so engaged and interested that you don't want them to end? This film was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE!! I just wanted it to be over!! I can't decide what I liked the least; the annoying singing, the poetry or inconsistent acting.
But it wasn't the worst I've seen ...and giving it an extra star for "effort" and mostly for it's decent/hopeful message. Sadly this story was not executed very well. I had to fast forward through much of this!

NOT Getting It!

The story is so dull. Nothing special or unique enough to pique my interest. The acting is so ordinary. Can't wait for it to end. I kept fast forwarding to make the painful dialogs to end. Also zero chemistry between the main characters.
I Don't Get It!

While it is true that whenever I see that a film's star is also its writer and director, I tend to avoid watching what I assume will be another vanity production. Sometimes, however, I decide to take a chance and watch it anyway; and occasionally I am pleasantly surprised. This is not one of those cases.
From the get-go, this film is dominated by the "performance" of one Tom Heard, who plays Jamie, an older gentleman who was once an enthusiastic local cabaret performer, but who is now attempting to recover from an upsetting break-up with his singing partner/boyfriend, by isolating himself in his apartment, belting out maudlin love songs to himself. He is not a likeable character at the onset, and does not ever become one!
The plot is such that our sad-sack crooner begins interacting with his younger neighbor, another "damaged goods" loner who is unwilling to deal with his depression due to the death of his mother, and has a journal full of sentimental "poetry" to prove it. Donato De Luca does at least provide a little spark as the sulky young neighbor, Ben.
I suppose it is debatable whether the film would have been better served by having less saccharine poetry, better song lyrics, or vocal performances beyond those exhibited by Mr. Heard. Let's cut to the chase here: If there is any reason to sit through this low-budget, low-energy fiasco of a film, I just don't get it!

"What do you do, when you don't know what to do?"

Jamie (Tom Heard) is a cabaret singer who can't bring himself to public singing anymore because of his breakup with his boyfriend a year ago who was also his artistic partner. Jamie always puts himself first, when confronted on his selfishness by his bestfriend Elaine (Sharron Bower) he finds out, it is the same reason his boyfriend left him. To make amends and prove it wrong he took upon himself to help his young lost neighbour Ben (Donato De Luca) with whom he had a connection, which soon develops into something more over a weekend trip. But as the relationship grows Ben finds himself on the other side of what he was warned about Jamie, which hurdles thier bond bringing Jamie back to square one.
The movie uses a modern approach of a love story. The writing is good. There's a poem on the end side which Ben presents to Jamie, it's really good. The way in which the movie highlight one's ability to open themself to the possibility of love, of letting someone in is appreciable.

Lovely Story, Great Performances

No spoilers! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these characters and watch them change and grow. The story is simple, but the emotions are complex and deep. The music and humor are a nice bonus! I really felt connected to the main character (played by Tom Heard), and loved the supporting cast, as well. Sweet story, great cast!

Charming May-December Story

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this a lot. I think the writers did a fantastic job of not making the age difference the whole story! Yes, it was acknowledged, but more so was Jaimie's self destructive behavior and how it impacted all his relationships. The only thing that slightly disappointed me a little was the love making scene between the main characters. The rating should've allowed for far more intimacy and nudity. Of course that's what any gay guy hopes to see. Both characters were attractive and for his part as an older guy, It would've great to see Tom Heard's character nude with the younger guy. Because the movie involved the romantic relationship between the two age differenced characters this would've been a huge opportunity to highlight the aged body in contrast to the younger body. That really is the challenge people expect in a May - December relationship. All in all I really did enjoy this movie. I liked the characters, I liked the actors playing the characters, their relationship was believable and I thought the writing, directing and camera work were top notch!
Great movie. Great chemistry.

Really enjoyed Getting It, a very sweet story with genuine connection between the main characters. The music brings it all together with a final song that leaves you wanting more. You can tell the movie was a labor of love for the cast and crew. Definitely recommended!
