Best Episode so far
connorwburnett5 June 2019
This episode really allows Russel T Davies' brilliant writing to shine through. Even with the admittedly slow beginning, episode 4 is captivating throughout. The extensive development, that has been given to our cast of characters so far, starts to pay off especially here. Cinematography and editing are a big improvement within this episode when compared to what we have seen previously, which is nice to see as that was one of the weaker elements of the series beforehand.

Prior to the release of this episode I was reluctant to recommending "Years and Years" however this has truly changed my mind and I would highly recommend this show to any fans of near future dramas.

"What colour is she?"

In many ways this show's future is just a continuation of the realities of millions of people. This story plays out everyday. It's just been brought closer to home. Television is meant to be this vulnerable.

Outstanding

You don't realise how well produced a show had been to feel such attachment to a character after less than 4 hours. Almost all of these characters are well developed and multidimensional giving the audience a huge level of investment. You don't realise just how dissatisfying season 8 of Game of Thrones was until watch this. I had a few concerns in the first episode - namely unrealistic decisions, but since then the quality has picked up enormously.

a hard one to watch

Reckless actions seem the only ones worth taking as the world grows ever more unfriendly, and every member of the family will have to deal with the bitter consequences.

Amazing Show but why Daniel!!???

Warning: Spoilers
Danny!? Why does he have to be gone! Honestly he was the only one I could actually stand😂 Difficult to watch seeing as I liked Danny at the beginning of the show and since I am biased having seen Russell Tovey in previous works and I can say that he for sure does not disappoint. Stellar performance and sad ending to Danny Lyons😭 Poor Viktor. But I sympathize with his siblings because I'm the youngest.

Another fantastic episode, apart from one major plot flaw
babyned9 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Russell T Davies has delivered another brilliant slice of contemporary SciFi, and this is his Game-Of-Thrones-Shock-Main-Character-Kill episode. It hit hard, was devastating and the build up was tense and terrifying.

However, after the shock wore off, I did think, why didn't Daniel just spend all that cash on hiring a decent, sea-worthy boat in the UK, and just go over and get Viktor? They could have arranged a pick up point via mobile phone. Sure, it would have been tough for Viktor to get to the coast line, but surely possible?

I don't know if I can continue after this
pollux_pt4 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
People complaining that the shots in the storm were vague, but that's what makes it so haunting: one can only imagine their suffering and their last hug, when they lost eachother and their last words. This is true horror.

Daniel's death was a really strong punch. He was the most likeable character and one than Edith the only one I deeply cared about. I don't think I've ever been so affected by a death as I am now. All the people here feeling bad for viktor - f* viktor, I couldln't care less about him. Just want Danny on the stage again.

Episode 4
Prismark104 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Russell T Davies takes a look at the chances and risks people take when trying to escape persecution.

Daniel's happiness with Viktor is short lived in Spain as the government is overthrown and foreigners are told to leave.

A desperate Daniel wants to get Viktor illegally into Britain at any price. Daniel finds that people in the black market want payment upfront and then rip you off or the promise of help is not that was expected.

Meanwhile Stephen's affair is exposed. He was just like his father and his grandmother throws him out.

The fourth episode sees the world getting darker, nation states getting themselves into economic turmoil. A world where the extreme left and right thrive.

This was certainly an emotional episode. The Lyons family might never be the same again.

They Spent The Show's Budget On Trying To Cross The Border...
W011y4m54 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This entire episode just screamed "we have no budget". To think it was so cheap, they couldn't even afford to visually depict a major sequence (that's an essential part of the plot) set at sea so instead, we were presented with a gimmicky, flickering montage of vague, indistinguishable shots to act as an alternative way of presenting a main character's unexpected demise. It's a waste & a total missed opportunity - considering the tremendous talent involved both in front of & behind the camera. What's even more frustrating is the increasingly noticeable issues with pacing; I absolutely ADORE Russell & respect him enormously for what he's contributed to British television thus far in his career but this episode was - & it PAINS ME to say it - poor; things are just becoming so rushed & incoherent & there are countless fascinating concepts to explore but they're fleetingly mentioned & then swept aside with equal rapidity, being either no longer of any relevance or the story doesn't have time to reference them for longer. Thus, Years & Years is beginning to amalgamate in to what could've been a masterpiece - if it hadn't been so relentlessly rushed & condensed.
