Okay Movie, But Has Flaws
jeremycrimsonfox23 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So, with Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, they decided to ignore the events of the 2009 animated film and give Wonder Woman a new origin while adding a new story. This movie actually fixes some problems I had in the 2009 film (like fixing Steve Trevor so he isn't a womanizer who doesn't make comments about the size of Hippolyta's breasts), and it makes Wonder Woman a lot closer to her DCEU counterpart (a strong female who is capable of fighting evil without anyone helping her). The story after the origin is five years later, Wonder Woman is visited by an old friend to help save her daughter Vanessa from going to jail after she steals an artifact that she plans to give to Doctor Poison, but the mother dies in a shootout while Wonder Woman is busy with Doctor Poison's enforcer, Giganta. Blaming the amazon for her mother's murder, she is recruited into Villainy Inc. as Silver Swan, with the mission to invade Themyscira.

Yeah, story suffers from the typical "bad guy is born because hero failed to save parent" cliché, and some of the dialogue is cheesy, but it has some good action and the voice actors are okay in my book.

5 is more than deserved

Fell asleep half way through, seems like a mash of a whole lot of WW movies as most of the characters are lame due to lack of depth.

Just watch the 2009 WW film
harryasimov21 January 2020
DC animated films have really plundered recently, what happened? I expect more from Sam Liu. The pacing of the film is all over the place, and the plot is predictable from beginning to end.

A Major Disappointment (Looking At You, Screenwriter)
jmathis-9661227 October 2020
I've enjoyed every single one of the DC Universe Animated Movies up to now, but Wonder Woman Bloodlines unexpectedly breaks the streak. What a disappointment.

I'm a long-time WW fan, and she's been very well-presented in all DC movies up until now. No slam on the animation here which is more or less ok, or the voice acting which is top-notch as usual, but even the awesome Rosario Dawson couldn't sizzle this turkey.

The problem with Wonder Woman Bloodlines begins and ends with the script, or more to the point, with the scriptwriter. The dialogue is uniformly flat, character depth and nuance are wholly absent, and every person (including Steve Trevor, the only man in the movie) is written with the exact same voice. I could literally hear the screenwriter speaking every single line, regardless of which character was actually delivering it.

The entire screenplay is one-dimensional and hamfisted from start to finish to the point of being, frankly, embarrassing.

I looked up the screenwriter and it seems that's kind of what she's known for, so... good job, I guess?

If you're going to skip just one DC Animated Universe Movie, make it this one.

It actually turned out to be a nice animated movie...
paul_haakonsen25 August 2020
Well, first of all I can't really claim to be much of a fan of superheroes, much less Wonder Woman. But hey, when given a chance to sit down and watch something that I haven't already seen, I will take that chance. And so was the case as well with this 2019 DC animated movie "Wonder Woman: Bloodlines".

Was it really necessary to showcase the origin of Diana yet another time? We've already seen this in comic books and in the 2017 live action movie. So having to sit through that yet again just felt redundant.

That being said, then I will say that the storyline in "Wonder Woman: Bloodlines" was a bit simplistic, but directors Justin Copeland and Sam Liu more than made up for what the movie lacked in story with sheer action and fighting. And that definitely was a treat for me as a viewer.

As for the characters in the storyline, well thumbs up for those parts. There were some pretty interesting characters and villains throughout the storyline. I liked that aspect of the animated movie quite a bit.

With this being an animated movie, having a good voice acting performance cast is crucial, and I do say that they definitely had put together a good ensemble of actresses and actors for "Wonder Woman: Bloodline". It was definitely a nice treat to have Rosario Dawson do the voice for Wonder Woman herself.

Now, as an animated movie, I do like the particular drawing style and artform that they used in this 2019 animated movie. It felt like a very nice blending of comic book and old school 1980s cartoon. So that definitely appealed to me and helped add to the overall enjoyment of the animated movie.

I am rating "Wonder Woman: Bloodlines" a six out of ten stars. It was a nice surprise for me, and I will say that it is worth taking the time to sit down and watch.

Familiar clichéd stories
HafizhMaulana2110 February 2023
Wonder Woman is saving a young girl who fell into darkness by joining a deadly organization.

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines is a stand-alone film for Wonder Woman in developing her character. The premise of the story of this film is quite good. The plot of the story goes to the point and is presented quickly. The conflict presented is also fairly simple. Trying to save the girl who fell in the dark is nothing but a clichéd story in this film. Didn't really expect much in this movie but it's pretty good. Developing a Wonder Woman character that to me feels less about the essence of the Wonder Woman role itself. Likewise with Steve Trevor, who for me doesn't feel like a partner who helped Wonder Woman a lot.

10 years for this?
optimuscarlos8 October 2019
It's a Total disappointment. They just changed her personality from previous movies, making her more like in the live action movie (wich I loved) but she is not what they have been giving us in the animated movies. Besides that, the writing is lazy, boring and animation is not great.

I am stick to the 2009 animated movie until they give us something better.

It was an okay movie
jadediamond6 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm slowly starting to like the New 52 version of Wonder Woman. I'm glad they ended her relationship with Superman and placed Superman in a relationship with Lois Lois starting in Death of Superman along with now placing Batman into a relationship with Catwoman like in Batman: Hush or Gotham by Gastlight (which I don't think is apart of the New 52 DC universe). But I'm slowly growing on her character which has become more likable to me even though the early 2000s Justice series and animated version of Wonder Woman voiced by Susan Eisenberg is always going to be my favorite animated version of Diana Prince while the 1970s Wonder Woman played by Linda Carter will always be my favorite live action version of her. In this version, Steve Trevor finally gets to be Wonder Woman's love interest again so I hope the writers keeps exploring their relationship.

Well, in this version, Bloodlines digs a little deeper into Wonder Woman's origins in the mystical feminist island of Themsyrica and how Diana learns to adapt to modern day society with the help of an archeologist named Julie and her teenaged daughter Vanessa ( I think that's what the daughter's name was), who becomes a surrogate family for Diana. Over the years, Vanessa grows jealous of her mother's favoritism towards Diana and when her mother is unexpectedly killed years later, Vanessa blames Diana and joins the bad gals to get her revenge against Diana allows the villains to turn her into a dangerous assassin, Silver Swan. Diana goes on a quest with the help of Steve Trevor and his assistant Etta Candy to save Silver Swan before it's too late.

I liked the romance between Steve and Diana and the small reference to her brief relationship with Superman. I hope the writers give them a chance, because this movie and her relationship with Steve humanizes Diana. When she was first introduced in 2014's Justice League: War, she was kind of obnoxious, headstrong, and godlike. It only grew worse as the movies continued. This movie showed Diana's vulnerable side which was as equally compelling as her stronger side. And even when she's in over her head and the odds are against her, she never gave up. I hate her New 52 outfit and when her hair was in the ponytail, but I have gotten used to it. But besides the action scenes, my favorite moments was when she wore her original costume. The voice queen herself Cree Summers graced us by voicing Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons and Diana's mother. In one scene, Hippolyta got her moment to shine and showed us why she was leader. And of course, Rosario Dawson did a wonderful job voicing Diana. My only gripe with the movie was the character of Etta Candy. I'm cool with them changing her character from white to black. She's a side character so her race is irrelevant to the plot. But I'm getting annoyed with liberal movies and TV shows making every black side character both black and LGBT. It's happening so often in so many shows and movies, it's becoming it's own stereotype. Etta Candy is a likable character but it seemed like she was kind of forced into the plot and action and was better off as a background character assisting from behind the scenes like Oracle from the Batman universe or Felicity in the earlier seasons of CW's Arrow. Her character wasn't necessary and only used as unneeded comic relief. Come to think about it, in every version of Etta, she's pretty much the same. She's the Jimmy Olsen of the Wonder Woman universe.

But overall, I liked the movie. I'm enjoying the new 52 universe and the continuity of the movies. Superman has a healthy relationship with Lois Lane. Batman has a son named Damian Wayne, Nightwing, the rest of the Batman superhero gang, and an off again on again relationship with Catwoman. Now, Wonder Woman has a potential healthy relationship with Steve Trevor. So hopefully, he doesn't get sideline by Batman and Superman again. The last time I saw Diana have somewhat of a healthy relationship with Steve was over forty years ago on the 1970s Wonder Woman TV show played by Lyle Waggoner. Yet, even then, he had the hots for Wonder Woman but never found out her secret identity as his secretary Diana Prince. Otherwise, he was killed off and replaced by his son in the 1970s, blown up sacrificing himself in World War I, being sidelined by a billionaire playboy costumed vigilante with psychological issues then by an immortal sun god from another planet, a World War II vet in a nursing home, or dead. I understand Diana is an immortal princess, but it would be nice to see a romance between Diana and Steve and I also like in this version that he knows Diana is Wonder Woman.

Anyway, pretty good movie which humanizes the immortal goddess and gives her a love interest with Steve Trevor. We get see Diana get her Death of Superman moment and the final battle was pretty good. Some of the plot is a little weak but it's balanced out by character driven storyline. Overall, I enjoyed it and look forward to the continuation of Wonder Woman's storyline. Loved the direction the writers are taking these movies. Looking forward the next one.

Trips and falls short of both its live action and animated predecessors
BalanaroftheNight8 October 2019
I've waited (as have other WW fans) for about ten years for another Wonder Woman solo movie after the amazing 2009 version. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this over its predecessor. The movie falls short on count of animation, engaging characters and plot development.

The animation is an unfortunate departure from the animation style that we have come to know and love in the more recent movies such as Death of Superman/ Reign of the Supermen and certainly doesn't hold a candle to the 2009 Wonder Woman movie.

Characters feel like they have been forced into moulds just to tick off agendas. Steve Trevor for example seems out of his league at most times. As a woman, I yearn for a movie where the empowerment of one group does not come at the expense of making another seem incompetent. Other characters as well have been shoehorned in to fit agendas just for the sake of it.

Summing up: If you're looking for a Wonder Woman animated movie to watch, I recommend watching/re-watching the 2009 movie instead.

Paint by numbers but still great fun!
joeyford-5534231 October 2019
OK, the first 1/3 was the same thing we saw in the WONDER WOMAN movie with Steve getting shot down and Diana saving him and then them leaving together to save the world. That was in the preview, no surprise. Then it got good. It was well written, action moved along nicely, plenty of new heroes. I enjoyed it. Would recommend it.

Worst. Villains. Ever.
carlos37andre2 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This seems more like a filler episode in a 30 episodes season of a cheap TV show. I've wrote some notes that I think pretty much sums up how lazy and confused this movie is most of the time. First tho, I have to say, the only good thing I can think of is that weirdly enough, I found the animation style here way better than the ones they use on the rest of the DCAU. And well... the invisible jet is kind of nice.

Back to the notes tho. Does it really has a 20 minutes... opening?

The beginning is so similar to the live action, but is so freaking fast. The characters have basically no interaction at all, and after 5 minutes Trevor is "well, you are hot, I'm hot, so obviously we are gonna bang and save the world together". Look, I get we know those characters, and I bet 95% of people who see the movie are hardcore DC fans... but man, how can you be so lazy? I get using a bit of the knowledge your audience already has to cut screen time, but you have to make your film cohesive, the characters have zero chemistry, and no reason at all to team up. In Wonder Woman (2017), Trevor told them all about the war, million deaths, and a world in collapse, after that, and arguing with her mom, she steels the armor and sword, and "forces" to led her to the war. Here, she just finds him hot, and proceeds to follow him to... study with a doctor? What?

We also have no reason to worry about Vanessa, we've known her for 7 minutes at this point, half of it been a silly montage, where is constantly complaining.

I mean, great call Steve, let the defenseless women getting SHOT and don't even go look how she is after the shooters are defeated. He is the real bad guy here for sure.

Skipping to the end, how great was their plan right? Cyber is killed 30sec after her big monster comes to life. I guess, no money for you darlin. But... she wasn't the real master villain... wait, not yet, gonna talk about it later.

Just: Worst. Villains. Ever.

Hippolyta is such a b!tch, she was going to let her daughter get killed without moving a muscle! What?! "My little girl" my a$$.

And at the end, what did the poison do to her tho? Is she blind...? Cause up to the point where Vanessa helps her, she seems to be seen Medusa very well. Why did Trevor need the purple light at the end? What did he do to get injured? He literally had just a minor cut.

And finally, what in the hells was the post-credit scene? How do you not show your film's true villain up to the credits!? And if she was responsible for all those deaths... why not arrested her?! Why are you gonna live her there? Why?!

My God, I hadn't realized how bad this movie was, until writing this down. I was just thinking it was another mediocre film up till now. But, it's bad. I guess that the fact I saw it on a 1.3x speed is telling of how not good this is. It's not worth it, it would definitely be one of the downsides of a 30 episode season of a cheap TV show on Cartoon Network, if this was an episode

cyrusalmighty-10-32922313 October 2019
I agree with other reviewers that there was some cheesy one liners but its obvious theyre intentional. Its an animated DC film guys... The plot is decent and fight scenes are nice. I appreciate that they focused on Wonder Woman's story and did not try to add all other characters from JL.

I prefer the other version
WeAreLive26 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Though I actually thought After the two death of superman movies that DC would finally realise their mistakes in their New52 animated movies. This one isn't bad by any means but it is very mediocre.

The movie is pretty much her origin but this time she disobeys her mom, she lives at a house with Julia and her cute daughter Vanessa who became less cute as the movie went on. Venessa gets jealous she goth and becomes the villain.

I just found this movie boring to be honest, I was looking forward to having another solo wonder woman movie only to get less of an impact.

I don't love or hate this movie I just don't care for it.

The worst of DC comics
pnorde14 October 2019
DC comics has accustomed us to much better (sometimes even excellent).

We are clearly among the worst (maybe the worst of all?):

  • There is no script, no development of characters and dialogues are incipid.
  • Characters design is bad and particularly poorly inspired (special mention for the bad guys).
  • The graphics are poor and the animation minimalist (some would say it's botched work).
  • Even action / fight scenes are bad!

A shame

As turnout, this film is about Vanessa want to take revenge on Wonder Woman for her mother! Because she thought Wonder Woman kill her mother! Entire film full of bloody and intense action scene! Quite remarkable! Two significantly bloody scene! First one, Wonder Woman helping Steve out of the jail and take down several guard by using her sword to cut them! Second one, Vanessa turn into "Silver Swan" and killing people at the Middle East! The rest of the action also quite intense! Such as, Wonder Woman fight with her mother, she saving bunch of people, she fight with Silver Swan, Wonder Woman fighting with Cheetah and eventually tie her up with the lasso, Wonder Woman and Steve went to a maze and encounter with a Minotaur "Ferdinand"! The ending quite touching and intense! At the end, the gigantic Medusa kill Dr. Cyber and Dr. Poison! Medusa destroying Wonder Woman's home, Wonder Woman using Medusa's snake to poison her own eye so she can't look at Medusa and Medusa can't turn her into stone! This act really heroic and touching! Wonder Woman, Steve and Silver Swan eventually defeat Medusa and save Themyscira! Wonder Woman commence the Amazon annual competition at the very end! Still have one post credit, Wonder Woman found out actually is Dr. Cale murder Vanessa's mother! Wonder Woman give a sword to Dr. Cale as she ask for early in the film! That's it! A quite entertaining animation film! Bravo!

One of the better 2019 animated DC films
Ingrouille18128 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's been 10 years since the last animated Wonder Woman movie, and while the last one had a plethora of feminist autism in it, this one tones that WAY down.

This movie takes place within the new DCAU continuity, alongside Justice League: War, Throne of Atlantis, Reign of the Supermen etc, with Rosario Dawson returning as the voice of Wonder Woman; not a huge fan of her in real life but she is a good choice to voice Wonder Woman in this universe. A lot of stuff in this movie feels rushed, including Diana leaving the island with Trevor. One thing I enjoyed is the relationship between Diana and Trevor, it plays by the typical Clark and Lois relationship. You get the role reversal thing in this, and I appreciate that it doesn't present Trevor as some sort of ponce, and doesn't turn him the cartoony 'Zapp Brannigan' stereotype he comes off like in the 2009 movie. Also, Silver Swan in this feels like she could be completely left out, and her arc we've a bunch of times in these superhero movies.

(Spoilers), the main plot is, wonder woman saves Steve Trevor, she and him go back to Man's World, she builds up her reputation as Wonder Woman, and from there we continue our plot with a new villain Silver Swan seeking revenge on Wonder Woman, alongside a main plot of various supervillains plotting to destroy the Amazons and Themyscira; it's a by the numbers plot of villains seeking to destroy the main superheroes' home and people. If there's one thing I can give the 2009 film honestly it's that there's more to the plot than what we get in this one. As for the designs, we get the same Cheetah we got in Justice League vs. Teen Titans, we get Giganta who's powers are reduced to a Bane esque serum by Doctor Poison that turns her big, and (Spoilers) the end game boss turns out to be Medusa; throughout the film we delve into Greek Mythological stuff which is by the course for a Wonder Woman project, so our end game movie boss has to be something Greek Mythological, so we get Medusa of all things. She serves as a challenging villain for Wonder Woman, but at the same time she seems out of place in this, have no idea why she's got this vendetta against the Amazons or Themyscira.

This is still one of the better DC animated movies we've had this year, I would even say it's better than Batman: Hush, which completely derailed itself with the ridiculous twist at the end. I'd recommend it, but keep the ending I've spoiled in mind when you go into watching it.

Used to better from DC Animation
mrbwiz42210 October 2019
After the Death & Return of Superman and them having so many hits this one is a huge miss.

Very poor villains especially with no development. There's two villains they could have reveled in the middle somewhere that would have been more compelling.

Wonder Woman has a chance to at least put the big bad in jail or something after the plan is admitted. What does she do? Absolutely nothing.

The whole story and dialogue needed a lot more time in the cooker, it feels like it was hashed out in a couple hours and then they pat themselves on the back and took their cheques.

Vague Woman is back
Puroo21 June 2021
After the awesomeness that Reign of the Supermen and Batman: Hush offered, I thought this would be a perfect movie to complete the Superman-Batman-Wonder Woman trilogy. While Reign of the Supermen and Batman: Hush were very memorable, this on the other hand was very forgettable. I am writing this review around 2 years after I have watched it and I don't remember much. I can't even take help from Honest Trailers, Cinemasins, Pitch Meetings etc to remember what all happened in it, so I will judge it only on the basis of the things I am remembering while writing this.

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines has the same beginning as the 2017 live action movie: Diana decided to save the man's world and left Themyscira. The story, however, takes place in the present day instead of World War I. Diana is some government official now, probably of Amazonians or something. She decides to help an outcast girl when she visits her mother's home. They have a Barbie-like moment together, but that girl later turns into Mercy from Overwatch (the one drawn on the cover).

There's a fight between Wonder Woman and Medusa, in which Diana puts poison in her eye and blinds herself to fight. After the hero-villain fight she manages to reform Mercy and they become friends again. If I remember correctly, Cheetah was also in this. There was also a woman who grew very big.

The animation is the reason why I have given it a good rating. It was forgettable, but I remember enjoying what it showed while it lasted. And trust me when I say I don't have the guts to watch this again on Prime Video. It's quite mediocre and I don't like watching the same movie twice unless I have given it a 10/10 rating.

Solidly entertaining superhero film with a charismatic turn by Rosario Dawson and great animation
politicidal2 June 2020
Imaginative and action packed installment in the DC Animated Movie Universe (that's a mouthful).

Rosario Dawson remains a surprisingly good choice for voicing Wonder Woman and Jeffrey Donovan is a solid fit as her friend and lover Steve Trevor. TFor those expecting Nia Vardalos to have a meaty role in this, you're be disappointed.

There is an entire rogues gallery of villains for Wonder Woman to fight. Almost all her classic foes appear such as Giganta, Cheetah, Doctor Poison, and even Dr. Cyber. But few of them standout despite their unique power set The most interesting one (I won't mention who) appears in the third act battle and shows far more personality than her evil confederates you wish she was the only villain.

The animation is terrific for the most part, and seems especially attentive to the curvature of the female characters. The music has a great epic feel to it during the action beats. There are a few pieces that seem reminiscent of a Ridley Scott film.

Cartoon Network ran this movie to hype up viewers for WW1984. Bad idea.
jamericanbeauty28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If a movie starts bad, it won't get better. Move on. I deleted my recording 34 minutes in, which included commercials. I should have done it earlier. Five minutes into the movie, Queen of Themyscira battles her daughter Princess Diana, to stop Diana from leaving with US Air Force Officer Steve Trevor, to save America from evil aliens. Her Mom wins the fight, but ends up giving Diana freewill to decide. What was the point of the fight? In America, a professor or science lady trains and mentors Diana on American culture, I think. My mind started trailing off due to boredom. Diana/Wonder Woman fights criminals in cheesy fight sequences, followed by a soapy teen angst-revenge plot. Wonder Woman's American mentor dies. Depressing. Enter Etta Candy, who gets the standard Hollywood transformation vs respecting the source material. The voice actors didn't do it for me. The mission to America was painfully dull and depressing. I kept wondering why Wonder Woman didn't return to her glorious Themyscira for good.

Incredible addition to DC animated library
masonsaul28 October 2019
Wonder Woman: Bloodlines is an incredible addition to the DC animated library. Rosario Dawson and Jeffrey Donovan both give great performances. The animation is good and it's well paced. The action sequences are impactful and extremely enjoyable. The humour is also really good and the music by Frederik Wiedmann is fantastic. However, it is brought down slightly by the opening 10 mins which feel slightly rushed.

A mess
pauli_gomez22 December 2019
This movie feels like an intent to introduce Wonder Woman and her villains to a public that (allegedly) does not know them. That is why we are told again the story of how Diana became Wonder Woman and we also got a parade of villains (and one occasional friend). This all results in a mess instead of a coherent story. They should have told a smaller story but with enough detail. I still think that the movie is entertaining and I liked the part of the occasional friend a lot, as well as the look of a couple of the villains, but I really think the movie has no soul.
