I loved it!
Spectravideo29 February 2020
After the two first episodes, I must say I'm impressed. Super likable team with really great ideas and taste, and just as important: the clients are super likable too. It's fun and entertaining all the time, and that's a accomplishent in itself, but it's also educational in a very good way. We learn small things all the time from the culture that they are visiting, without overdoing it. The production is stellar . I really like the tempo of the narrative, and the camerawork and editing is top notch. Very far from the all too common traditional American-style documentaries with fast clips, swooping camera shots, tired sound effects and all that nonsense. This show is very pleasant to watch. It feels sincere and fun. Recommended.

Light entertainment with some cultural value
katanalilli28 February 2020
I expected some imrpressions of different countries, cultures and food - and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the variety of countries the restaurants they filmed in. Every episode was different thanks to that. The hosts are likable, a little over-excited tho and I wish they showed and involved the restaurant owners more. The show sometimes seems staged making it cringy - but it's entertaining and gives some valuable information about local costums. It's also filmed beautifully.

What's not to like?
slofstra11 October 2021
You could do a restaurant rescue program by humiliating the owners, cursing a great deal, abusing the staff and insisting that you, the host, have the final answer on everything.

Or you could do it this way: empathize with committed, hard working restaurateurs that need a boost. Understand their aspirations and what makes them tick.

Then take a look at local food options, renovate in line with local colour and culture, and take the viewer on a mini-travelogue while doing so.

Sure, it's low intensity television, but it's incredible fun to watch, and the vibe is very positive.

Colonizers wet dream
chelsieletendre11 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show is a how to guide on how to colonize different areas of the world. The hosts in each episode go, learn, and appropriate culture from the locals and pass it onto the restaurant owners. For example, in St. Lucia, one of the hosts learns how to make hot sauce in a blender from an award winning hot sauce maker, and suggests to the restaurant owners to sell their own hot sauce based on his recipe! Love the idea of doing a culture/food show around the world but there needs to be an aspect of understanding cultural appropriation when restaurant owners are not Indigenous to the land.

Confused premise hosted by Instagram "experts"
tyndaris10 May 2020
I really wanted to like this show, it has all my favorite things food, travel, and design. It's like they combined Anthony Bourdain's food/travel shows and Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare, then they took away the charismatic and dynamic host and replaced them with Instagram famous people. They even reference Instagram a lot.

Given it's promise and budget it's obvious it's meant to speak to people who love shows like this, who love to learn about what's out there. But instead we end up listening to the hosts go on and on about how they love everything and how they've never had flavored honey before and then they have to describe how the honey is created and how they feel about that too. When they visit an expert they show 5-10 seconds of what the expert says, and then spend a minute or two flashing to the host repeat what they were told and how they felt about it. And let me assure you, they LOVE everything! And everything comes as a shock to them... did you know Ohana means family?!? I mean because it came as a shock to the hosts but then they repeated it again, and again.

I did end up watching the rest of the shows, but not or the show itself. I was interested in some of the experts they met and I wish we could have heard more and explored more of their businesses.

I liked the show but HATED how before each reveal they make a summary of the things they did that we JUST WATCHED!! Unnecessary waste of time...

Loved it

I never write reviews, and was surprised when I read so many of the negative reviews of this production. I was not only entertained by the transformations, but I was educated on local cultures, foods, wines, traditions, history, etc., of each of the locales. I thought the 3 consultants were positive and respectful. It was also refreshing to learn a little about motivations behind each of the business owners. So for me, it's a 10!

The Hosts Are Boring
desposito-pa30 May 2020
I like how they really draw inspiration from the location they are in and therefore you learn about new places. However, these hosts are very boring. They lack personality. I noticed this a lot especially after watching Queer Eye.

Good but start repeating
mndeveci-231-9365284 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It is a good show but there are some things that starts to bug you after couple of episodes.

First one is they start to repeat themselves. Their recommendation is always go with what is popular in local market (for food, for decorations and for drinks).

The other thing is they tried to make it emotional so hard. In every episode, the owners start to cry. They find something (either related to their history or related to their success in the business).

All in all good show for casual watch. You have a chance to see beautiful places.

Great idea but nauseating production
tfosgard-9472510 May 2020
I love the beautiful locations and I'm interested in the local food in the locations but I could not deal watching this. It super pretentious, the hosts trips are very very loosely attached to the restaurant so I wondered why we were doing some of this stuff. Too much slo-mo and attempts to artificially create drama. Ultimately, I found it to be unwatchable.

This is what wholesome restaurant makeovers should look like
reenaborkar22 March 2020
Addicted to this amazing fresh show on Netflix, love how Karin, Nicky and Chef Prescott work their magic to help sinking restaurants around the world and bring them afloat. I've learnt so much about different elements. Love this!

Might as wel be called something else.
nickyeskens3 March 2020
When I saw the trailer for this I got pretty excited, I love these types of shows and tend to be good entertainment. But this show was a big snooze fest.

The restaurants are like 6% of every episode and the rest is just the hosts doing cool stuff and meeting 'awesome' locals and talking about how cool things are. You see one shot of the restaurant and heck the owners aren't even involved in learner the new menu or food they are going to have.

This show is just a big circlejerk of the hosts being all hyped about how amazing they are and how amazing they are discovering things that are wrong. I feel bad for the owners participating with this show, this is all about the host not about any restaurant on any edge.

Beautiful production
kathleenrukavina16 March 2020
This series is beautifully shot with really rich content. Sure, it's not as aggressive as Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares or the hosts don't have the same swagger as Anthony Bourdain, but they're Canadian! Really well done!

I'm over the moon for this show. Feel like there was a real void after losing Anthony bourdain . This gives me chills to experience these cities in such a lovely way. The hosts are so great, likable, talent and dedicated to finding what these cities have to offer and honestly showcases the local people. I want to see every cities this way!!!

Meh x2
genique-232016 March 2020
It started of really promising, you get these struggling restaurant owners trying to save their scenic but failing restaurants, plus experts to help them with the business. I get that theyre trying to show the beauty of the place where the restaurants at,like going to the local markets, talking to the locals, etc. the main goal of this show is supposed to be helping the owners but you barely see the owners learn any of the local recipes or like learn how to properly operate the business! Like the only part I enjoyed was when they reveal the revamped interior!there's no follow up if the owner has learned any business operation tip from them or if the customer turnout was good.(Ive watched too many kitchen nightmares to know that even thought they helped the restaurants they still end up closing) basically its like a travel show with a little bit of restaurant makeover on the side

Fresh and Feel-Good
matthewconnell-6060929 February 2020
I just gone done binge watching this first season and it has left me feeling really happy! There are a lot of great travel and food shows out there and this one has a unique flavour. The hosts have great chemistry and they all flawlessly add their areas of expertise with creative sensitivity. Give it a go and you won't be let down :)

Best Restaurant Makeover Show
This is my favorite Restaurant Makeover Show. They really delve in to culture of each place and help the people connect with where they are.

Wrong approach
hjwaves23 March 2020
This show is cringeworthy and unwatchable.

It is a shallow travel documentary, with none of the altruism it claims.

It occurs to me while watching a second (and my final) episode that, rather than the hosts frolicking and exploring the featured culture/country, it might do more good to help the restaurant owners themselves experience the cultures and foods around them, to facilitate their own growth towards sustainable change.

Also, the hosts' very shallow and one-sided interaction with locals is frustrating. For example, despite being corrected, they pronounced Pura Vida wrong EVERY TIME. Really undermines their credibility.

Ugh.

Contemporary TV - show which lacks authenticity
opinionated-alchemist15 April 2020
What should I say? This show is basically everything what is wrong with food journalism! It is shallower than puddle of gravy...

Let's start with the restaurateur: I don't say, that he doesn't have good ideas. But it seems that the solutions what he has, is short-lived.

The designer - wow - she is more interested in showing how beautiful she is (she is cute) - and pushes her taste on everybody around. While she is incorporating some designs and decorations from the respective regions, the changes are just skin-deep not really.

Same applies to the chef. I actually really enjoyed his experiences with local cuisine and food culture. But then he is just curating a menu, which again is shallow and doesn't really incorporate an important aspect of the culture.

Further I have got the feeling, that every single restaurant will fail (again) after just a short while. Because I don't see a lot of training or some changes. A lot of restaurateurs are really frustrated, that they have no clue how to manage a restaurant - but these guys coming in and just bruise up the restaurant make a new menu and calling it a day.

It seems, that this program is a total rip off of Kitchen Nightmare featuring Gordon Ramsey. I always thought, that it is not possible to turn a restaurant so quickly around - but Ramsey did a far better job than those 3.

The tragedies and failures of the restaurant owners seem to be just a prop for this show and it really seems, that these 3 protagonists are more interested to have their own fun - than really caring for the restaurants.

As a restaurant owner, I like it very much
edgamu10 March 2020
I own two italian food restaurants in Mexico. Like the guests in the show me and my familiy were not professional restauranteurs when we started our business. I like very much this show because through the episodes the experts share so many knowledge that can be applied to any restaurant, in any place of the world. The weakness of the show are that the pace can be a little slow sometimes and that we do not get to see how the restaurants were doing after the experts leave. I think that it would be nice to see a scene with costumers enjoying the new experience after the revamp.

Incredible show
wuyinggmat10 March 2020
Really enjoyed the show and very inspired by the cast. Love the design and how they tackle each restaurant differently to make them shine. The places, the people and the restaurants are brimming with characters. Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. Out of jealousy?

Entertaining, shows the locations well , but cringing at the food

but my biggest qualm is with the chef. This is a cookbook writer who has no restaurant experience trying to teach people to cook dishes for their culture?

In the HK episode they tasted the dishes and was like 'erm, this is not Asian enough' dafuq

I wish they went to a African American owned eatery and tell them their food is not 'Black' or enough

The ones where they go to Hong Kong and come up with dishes with 'Asian flavours' as interpreted by a foreigner or to South America and giving their take on a their culture is just cringe
