Do We Need More Backgrond
Hitchcoc8 September 2020
Two thirds of the way through the series, we are given another look at the past. Emma is acting irrationally after rationing is put in place. Of course, everyone on the mission is evasive or lies. She is in charge. I can't believe that NASA would put someone so riddled with baggage in such a significant command position. The daughter's story continues to be tiresome.

The negative reviews don't understand what this show is about
ebeckstr-111 January 2021
This program is a science fiction drama. It is utterly rooted in character development. It is not action driven, it is not science driven per se, it is not even plot driven. It is character driven. That's what the show is about. Slamming this episode because it takes an idea ostensibly rooted in science fiction - being isolated by unfathomable and insurmountable distances within the vastness of space - and leverages it to explore one of the central themes of the show, is to show a complete misunderstanding of a key function of science fiction.it also strikes me as being rather soulless. The fact is, this episode is beautifully written, displays the growing bond between the crew members, and, like the best sci-fi drama, has moments of poetry and poignancy.

This show itself is not poorly ranked on IMDb but it underrated. I really get the sense that the reason for this underratedness is tipified by the response to this episode: I think viewers are expecting some kind of action or suspense oriented show, and that is just not what Away is or was intended to be. If you don't like this kind of thing that is perfectly fine, but then move on to a different show. I don't get why people would be sticking with this show through seven episodes if they don't like this particular kind of science fiction, which it showed itself to be certainly by episode three if not earlier.

Anyway, season 1 episode 7 is one of the best of the series and simply a good bit of writing and acting in its own right.

What audience are they targeting?
lawrencetownsendnz30 November 2020
Clearly, they are making a mockery of their sci-fi audience. Actually any audience would know that a commander or captain of the ship should be emotionally steadfast for the sake of their crew. When on duty ship first family second. I hope they get enough bad reviews of this episode that the writers of the show do not make a mistake this bad ever again. It felt like it was written by a soap writer with absolutely no knowledge of military command.

She's Using Her Water Ration To Feed One Of Kwesi's Plants.
wandernn1-81-6832745 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So we start here with more flashbacks. Emma and Matt. Emma wants to break up. Emma is pregnant.

So we go thru this episode....

Emma dealing with her pregnancy.

And Kwesi dealing wiht his plants.

Really it was stupid for Matt to text Ram about Lex being in an accident before finding out all the details. That just doent make sense...

-1 Star for Matt sending a report of Lex's accident with no information on any details of what happened. All it serve

Ram puts Emma on a saline IV. because Emma is acting nutso.....

And Emma finds out that Misha and Matt have been 'becoming pen pals'......

And really toward the end more Emma and Matt flashback,,,

Really a boring episode and not that great. 4/10

Aren't we going to talk about the teenager who's bring unfair?
ronner-30 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We should talk about apologetic parents with inconsiderate teenagers. I've seen enough teenage hormones or selfish decisions causing the conflict of the story. .

No, it's not the parents' fault every time. The mother's sacrificing herself and being with the family to save the world while the father's getting ammends with his incapacity and almost lost his life from a stroke. Girl, give your parents a break and be the support they both need.

Do they do this as a way to be more appealing to a younger audience? And then the episode closes with a flashback of Emma making the tough decision to get the baby after she just almost gave her life away in a previous scene? Neither my millennial self nor my gen z niece get it.

If there's any consolation I'm just sooo glad Matt did not respond to Lex when she said "I'm sorry" when meeting each other in the hospital after the accident. If he said anything to the effect of "no don't be" or "it's my fault" i would have moved on to the next series entirely.

This certainly feels like a filler episode to add more context to each of the main characters' background; as if we haven't already had enough at this point.

Fire Emma
christopher-c-radke23 April 2022
Basically an endictment of a mother in command. I've known lots of women in the military (and Command) that can separate their duty from their emotions. Emma is not it. As Commander, you don't get to despair and hide in your room. You have to suck it up and figure it out for the sake of your crew. Because they are more important than you or your feelings. Period.
