Not predictable

Warning: Spoilers
More Please. ! Scores are settled and unpredicted truths are rivealed. Many of the complex characters in 'Gangs is London' have lives more of circumstances, than most people could people could ever imagine. The local undertakers are getting rich by the day and all gangs are seemingly been realigned the easy way or the hard way by the mysterious danish investors, who are revealed at the end. This leads you to the inevitable...... 'dont stop now' season 2 please. ! There's lots of questions left hanging. That's its beauty, or if you prefare, time for the viewer to catch their breath The best gangland tv show Britain has ever turned out. Dont miss it and personally I hope season 2 can be just as incredible !!!

A twisty climax
Leofwine_draca18 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A pretty solid end to the series, unspectacular given what's come before, but with plenty going on. The story gets wound up rather quickly with lots of supporting characters bumped off at speed and then extended emotional and heightened drama at the climax. There's so many twists and turns here that you're playing catch up throughout, and they seem to be going out of their way to make it unpredictable, which it is. I did find the final cemetery scene ridiculous, however.

The curse of michelle
BoulosSoueileh18 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Is Michelle fairley a curse? I'm just wondering. After loving Robb Stark we lost him in the red wedding and Now after 10 episodes of loving sean we lost him too. She's a damn curse The series is so good, writing wise cinematography wise and it keeps on your nerves for the last moment, we all knew Eliot was a traitor but killing police for the investors this was surprising. And Btw yes Wallace= starks and not Billy will be back but jackie will

Warning: Spoilers
Yeah this was just not good. Unsurprising given the position it was in from last episode. I liked the non-linearity aspect of the episode. It meant that the reveals came naturally and has generally been a strong point of the show. Unfortunately it was one of few strong points for the episode. The writing was beyond ridiculous, even for the standards of this show. There was so much laziness and just flat out low quality in it. I've already written this review but an error erased it so I'll compress it this time, which is probably a good thing because there's a lot of it. A caricaturish interrogator who barely resembles a cop. Marian shot and her men murdered in broad daylight. Sean magically getting the murdered UC's phone, which leads him to discover who Elliot is is particularly head-scratching. Nasir's death, a man who should have had protection and not been left alone, and marking the end of the most pointless character and storyline in the show. His only purpose was to act as a weakness for Asif, a frankly boring and irritating character. Lale screwing Sean despite clearly not liking or respecting what he does. Shannon killing a detective for no good reason, completely going against her interests and character. Sean taking out one of Elliot's teeth with one hit despite him taking countless punches from bigger men, and then hiding a chip that Sean magically had containing information on all investors, in that tooth gap for at least a day that went undetected despite the various tests and water boarding he underwent. Elliot shooting at police. Good moments like the tension between Alex and Sean, Sean's death, and Elliot's escape lost their weight because I'm tired of the amount of bad writing I've had to endure. This episode epitomised the series in that a lot of great ideas were just poorly executed. The pieces are in place for a second season but I can't say I'm looking forward to it.

Quite underwhelming
Abdulxoxo9 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
GOL finale is not only disappointing but also underwhelming. Most of the characters behavior is out of place, Elliot a dedicated police officer all of a sudden got turned, and start shooting the police? Sharon shooting a police officer for practically no reason, in her house, sitting on her couch, how's she going to clean up this mess? Dumani killing Marian and her men in a broad daylight? and am I miss something on Floriana's part? 'cause the last time we saw her she was running for her life and her baby's, how is she, all of sudden, dressed in a nice clothes and in what way is she "going to help Marian"? Elliot killing Sean, it's understandable and a nice twist but I don't think it's a good idea to get rid of almost all the main characters that have been developed well throughout the season so soon. Now the wow factor is gone, since it's the whole fallout of the mobster family thing that's keeping things intriguing. overall, the finale makes things uninteresting, and the setup for s2 isn't that colorful enough to make one want to come back for s2.

However, the performances are amazing all around, the cinematography remains top-notch, and the score of course set the appropriate mood for the scenes.

It was all downhill
cecilstolberg14 May 2020
After a great start in the first two episodes, unfortunately it went downhill! It was full of stupid people making stupid mistakes that put them in the line of fire! People who operate at this level just don't make those sort of mistakes, regardless of which side of the line they are on! If we do have a second series some more intelligent writing would be nice!

Rushed up!
jsnjfari12 May 2020
The destruction of the gang leaders was crammed into the last episode. They tied up loose ends rather sloppily. It would have benefited from at least one extra episode to prevent it being so rushed.

Season One Review
southdavid5 March 2021
A little late to the party but I've finally gone back and watched "Gangs of London" that I recorded about this time last year, but got lost a little in a sea of Covid Content. Though I admired quite a lot of this show, a few niggles with the story stopped it from being something I considered truly top class.

The murder of Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney) patriarch of a family and head of a crime syndicate causes ructions around city of London. His son, Sean (Joe Cole) presumed next in line for control beings a violent hunt for the perpetrators, whilst senior advisers Ed Dumani (Lucian Msamati) and his son Alexander (Paapa Essideu) try to assure the various interested parties that London and the Wallace organisation are open for business. Into this steps Elliot Finch (Sope Dirisu) a low-level enforcer who sees the confusion as an opportunity to rise the ranks.

I normally start my appraisals with the positives, but I think I'm going to lead with the negatives here as there are less of them. Mostly the issues I found were with how complex the story is at times, there a numerous factions (generally regional or ethnic groups) that Wallace held together that now see their rivalries return. Sometimes, it's a little hard in all that to maintain who is on who's side and what their ultimate motivations are. I also felt a little underwhelmed at the conclusion of the show, thought I understand that there are opportunities to go forward with it now.

The best aspect is Gareth Evans being involved and particularly him bringing some of the action chops that he showed in "The Raid" and its sequel into some really phenomenal action sequences that pepper, particularly, the earlier episodes. He also directs the standout fifth episode, one that could almost stand alone and contains a brutal sustained attack on remote farmhouse. Performances and visuals across the whole series are very impressive.

A little tighter plotted and with a few less blind alley characters then this might have been right up there, as it is, I'll be back for the second season.

Disappointing

Too bad they killed Sean in the end, best character of the show.

In the last episode the show looks like a spy story not a gangster story. Disappointing.

Dissapointing
spiderzoid23 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Really started to enjoy the series, it seemed to have peaked though in episodes 2-4. I found I wasn't rooting for any of them really, but started to get the feels for Sean and his brother towards the end of the series. I thought it ended up being a bit convoluted. The Wallace I thought was a business empire, but it seemed though that they went from being the most powerful gang in London to hiding in a derelict building in one episode. When Ed shot Marian I just shouted at the telly it was stupid, she had plenty chance to pull the trigger too. I didnt care or root for Elliot, wouldnt have missed him if he got shot. There was just no hero or anti-hero to back with your emotion in the series, which I think lets it down.

Really?
djs_melb7 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show for the first say 6 episodes was a ruthless, gritty and gripping gangster storyline with a lot of layers and good character development. It was raw and unforgiving. The last few episodes started becoming a sort of fast and the furious style spy/ government agent show. It was great when it was gangster and simplistic. The killing off of Sean is pointless and dumb. That'll be it for me watching it. Similar demise in the storyline on par with the plight of game of thrones.

Saved the worst for last
CakeWalks274 December 2020
The finale almost seemed like a phone in. It was all over the place. You figure out halfway thru the episode that it's opposite day; because they do everything opposite of what would follow previous episodes. If there's a season 2 and it's anything like the finale it'll be skipped by me.

Massive disappointment - unfortunately
tommus-694277 February 2021
Whereas I really enjoyed the season (with episode 5 being an absolute highlight) so far, I was quite shocked by the total disaster that the last episode is. It lacks credibility on so many different levels. Scenes that were apparently meant to be shocking, turned out to be comical instead. It's a real shame as the series started off so promising.

This series went from good to parody. Excessive violence just became laughable and all persons stupid and despicable. A bit like Monty Python and the holy Grail; except the humour.

Anything but this Warning: Spoilers
Wednesday, April 19, 1995 a building in Oklahoma City was bombed. 168 people died and another 680 were injured.

Gangs of London has very intense and graphic violence. That doesn't bother me.

Being reminded of a personal trauma is more difficult than watching some guy get his head blown off.

I have enjoyed every minute of this series until now.

GOODBYE AND PLEASE DON'T GET RENEWED FOR ANOTHER SEASON.

P. S. Even if it is I won't be watching it.

Warning: Spoilers
There is going to be a second season, and there's already word that Sean's mothers death was faked, Sean's probably not dead and they'll be a new antoganist in Season 2. So against Season 2 maybe it's an okay episode.

Sesaon 1 review: London ganglands in apocalyptic setting - ultraviolence
joebloggscity2 November 2021
You get what it says on the tin on this one. A gangster movie based in London, and it really does reflect the modern cosmopolitan ethnic mix. However, that's where reality begins and ends with this ultraviolence show.

What we have in this first season is an Anglo-Irish gangster family in business and at war with all the other ethnic gangs to remain at the top of the ladder. Thinking themselves as the apex predators, they find themselves to be as vulnerable as the rest. Add in undercover cops, financial shenanigans and dysfunctional families, and you have all the ingredients to a modern gangster drama.

The problem is that it becomes clear that this was made by a director who is interested in the action scenes only (no surprise this being made by the director of the incredible 'The Raid'), yet that becomes a distraction. London gangwars are made out to be like as if the city is in the middle of an apocalypse, with heavy artillery and covert green berets on the prowl. It's a bit laughable and nauseating in that sense.

The action scenes are way too much, and there is one big action scene after another in each show, when really they could have just done fewer and built up to the story to each.

The show is good, and actors are fine with a clutch recognisable stars from Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones. However, our lead never convinces in his role, but Michelle Fairley more than compensates for that with another stand out role as the cheated matriarch of the family.

I won't give anything away. There's a lot to take in. You'll have to get your head around the different gangs (Turks, Irish, English, gypsies, Pakistanis, African groups, Danish etc), and unlike Game of Thrones, they don't give you time to take it all in. It's all in your face. Just accept it and maybe dont' think too much.

Improves as it goes on the first season, but the ending is a sham, and completely nonsense I thought. Almost ruined it all but they reined it all in partially.

Despite my mixed comments above on the show, it's a fine series to watch, but it's not some game changer for British gangster film making. Enjoyable & entertaining for the action scenes and some of the story, but nothing more to date.

Maybe the second season will see some big changes that will move everything along better.
