Underrated episode
mauricio-madrid24 January 2020
This was great I really don't get the negativity. It has a compelling If unoriginal plot and adds a lot of development to our main character. I mean it's different from The precios episodes but that doesn't make It bad, in fact that's what a lot of series lack, variety and more episodical adventures, a time for our characters to get into little slices of adventure as a breather from The main plot, this one does that while It brings More layers to our protagonist. Besides this Is not a Cartoon storyline, as some say, it actually draws inspiration from Seven Samurai, one of the greatest films of all time. One flaw I could give It to It Is that the plot Is kind of rushed and maybe It could've taken a little More Time, I mean yeah, the conflict gets solved way too fast, but hey at least It does It well (unlike the next episode).

This is NOT a filler episode
NickBishop0326 December 2020
I'll be honest, this is my least favorite episode. But, it isn't bad at all. I'd give it a 7.5 if I could.

But anyone calling it filler, is silly. You get introduced to an important character in the story, there is progression in the development of Mando and The Child, and some decent action.

Cool your jets before you call episodes filler, just wait.

Star Wars fans are the worst
campuzanofilm30 November 2019
It's really telling that the first episode to have a well written story, interesting characters, and doesnt preoccupy itself with shoving as many references to other Star Wars properties is the same episode that fan boys decide isn't good. Let's face it, Star Wars fans only want what is familiar, they dont want new or interesting stories.

Akira Kurosawa Strikes Back!
ststic29 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
George Lucas was always inspired by Akira Kurosawa's work, so it's somewhat nice to see such a heavy influence of his fantastic movie Seven Samurai in this episode!

From the two men seeking help from the outsider, to the outsiders teaching the villagers the ways to fights against those who wish the village harm and the way they build the barricades and the Mando runs from the explosion is all in Seven Samurai. But that doesn't take anything away from the fantastic and still 'original' writing of the episode because it's not like it's the first time someone has taken inspo from Akira... (Magnificent seven)

This is Star Wars!
her506629 November 2019
It isn't about the force or CGI that made Star Wars, it's about good characters and solid story telling. It's the build and scarcity of things that give them true value. Congrats to Jon Favreau on giving us a real Star Wars story!

Until Our Paths Cross
ThomasDrufke30 November 2019
Coming off it's best episode so far, The Mandalorian continued it's successful first season with an action packed trip into Kurosawa inspired territory. Seemingly taken right from pages of a Kurosawa samurai epic from the 50'-60's (Specifically Seven Samurai), 'Sanctuary' was another solid entry into Disney+ flagship show. This time directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, the action is superb, the character depth is building, and we get introduced to plenty more people and settings that could play into the rest of the season quite well. Oh and he's absolutely going to take that mask off in front of the audience at some point, perhaps by the end of the season.

For those complaining about it being slow..
colerobbert29 November 2019
Go watch a Michael Bay movie with non stop action and mindless entertainment. This show is developing characters / the story / the world. Of course there's going to be moments where it slows down and not have constant battles and action. This is a character driven show, not an action driven show.

Filler episode
Das_Pike29 November 2019
Like any good album you need tracks to fill the space and this episode proved no different. It was nice to see more of the galaxy explored and the episode humanized the series a bit more. Direction felt campy at times though, bland even, but it kept pace for the most part. There were a few missed opportunities to really appreciate certain wide shots had they been a few seconds longer. Definitely the weakest chapter so far.

Y'all say like an episode of Xena like that's a bad thing!
sarahbuhlman2 December 2019
Ohhh god forbid they show some human sides of these badass warriors. Also, the Firefly parallels continue. Love it all.

Best episode of Stargate SG1 I've ever seen
nate_snead29 November 2019
This episode was okay, sort of a day in the life episode. I enjoyed it but it seemed a bit cheap and I don't know about some of the Xena level acting from the extras. They can't all be great I suppose.

Brings to life some humanity, gives Mando some soul
ScoobySnacks6629 November 2019
Slower paced, beautifully shot episode, that brings some real humanity to our main character and the universe. He's not just a ruthless, mercenary, bounty hunter covered in beskar steel, but clever and caring and invested in doing the right thing. Baby yoda steals a few scenes with his adorable cuteness and we meet Cara Dune, a kick-ass, awesome mercenary and potential side kick? I was impressed with the focus and details of the culture and daily life in the village Mando and Cara agree to protect. It provided some nice cultural depth that we don't often see in the Star Wars films. Also enjoyed learning more about Mando's code on why he doesn't remove his helmet and his dedication to the Mandalorian faith, even when given the choice to settle into what appeared to be the best that life can offer.

They are pushing this woman too hard. How did she beat a Mandalorian in full armor? Seems legit.

Fly above the walker and destroy it. This episode is so dumb. Training backwater people with sticks vs using his spaceship. Dumb writing.

An actual look into the Galaxy.
rijuchaudhuri29 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Wow! I don't know where to start! But this is the very first time we got to see the lives of regular people separately, detached from any political entanglements. I never really felt more connected with the surroundings before which this episode depicts! The village illustration is fantastic! It looks straight out of Clone Wars! And then the scenes! Cara and Mando's actions, that Loth-rat, Baby Yoda's cuteness and then their vulnerability to the raider attacks. All of it makes Star Wars look more real than ever before!

A nice breather
iplagerquist9629 November 2019
This episode was something new and refreshing than the previous three chapters. It allowed us as the audience to sit and relax with the characters and get to know a little bit more about them. Baby Yoda is still cute and getting to know a little more about the Mandalorian is great. I love the quiet moments in this show, which this episode gave us a lot of. Of course, the action is well done as well. Seeing a old and nearly destroyed AT-ST was great and the visual effects are still stunning. This might have been a little side adventure but I can't wait to see what happens next!

Different...
nathanhalliday-1308929 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Reminded me of a Clone Wars episode where they train the farmers to fight the droids. Not a bad episode but it didn't really fit the theme of the first 3 episodes. However there was some decent action and we were introduced to Kara Dune. Hopefully the story picks up properly next week.

Beautiful.
stephenjelliston29 November 2019
The opening scene of this episode was a masterpiece, the whole episode was beautiful. The acting superb. Baby Yoda on a whole new level of CUTE! The thought and detail that has gone into this series is impressive. The emotional roller coaster you're taken on by Pedro Pascal is unbelievable given the dude's in a suit of armour. Gina Carano and Julia Jones were gorgeous and their performance was flawless. 10/10 Bravo Mr Favreau.

Abusing the 7
rafael-gutsan29 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Worst episode so far. Let's face it: Seven Samurai plot has been seriously abused over and over again (and there was a similar episode in The Clone Wars).

Also that the Mandalorian even remotely thinks about leaving the child there makes no sense whatsoever- so he simply forgot that the kid can be tracked?

The AT-ST was pretty cool though.

Best episode yet!
adalex-5062029 November 2019
Chapter 4 was a really really good break from the markets and desert lands that have previously been shown in The Mandalorian. It felt like a breath of fresh air as the cinematography was superb and the VFX keep being beyond anything I would've expected from a TV show. The story itself did seem a little bit filler, but that is perfectly fine in the grand scheme of things. It was a fun trip and left me waiting for more.

A step back...
cfauteux6 December 2019
Felt like an episode of Stargate SG1 at points. Had the cheesy local population with a problem the SG1 team...err...Mandalorian had to fix...all filmed in what is obviously British Columbia... Weak story in this one, but not all can be gold. Lets hope next one is better.

Why this hate?
Victor_daSilva_12 August 2021
Dude, folowing the original premisse of story (removing all the plot of Baby Yoda and the remnants of the Empire), this episode is perfect, fully of love and character growth. I really don't understand the hate who this episode was recevied.

When I saw the reviews for the first two episodes, I imagined that the whole series would be like this fourth episode, "a big filler", and for me that looks amazing (until now).

The Not-so-magnificent Two.
BA_Harrison17 January 2021
Bryce Dallas Howard directs this episode, which is essentially Seven Samurai in space (albeit with only two warriors this time around). This story was famously retold as The Magnificent Seven, proving that it could be adapted to different genres and settings, but I haven't been able to take the basic premise seriously since it was so brilliantly spoofed in The Three Amigos; besides, the story had already been given a sci-fi spin in Roger Corman's Battle Beyond The Stars (1980).

Howard's version brings nothing new to the table: in fact, her version of the tale pales in comparison with all of those that have come before, despite the benefit of a massive Disney budget. There's little in the way of imagination on display, the story panning out exactly as expected, and the acting from the peaceful villagers is atrocious. Having seen it done so many times before, it all feels horribly clichéd, and could really have done with something new being added to the mix to prevent it being so stale.

Definitely the weakest episode of the season so far.

Kurosawa, the Force is strong in you.
anybody-1613 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a two samurai version of the Seven Samurai. I thought the retelling OK to good, but this theme and plot line was finished with the Magnificent Seven if I were being generous. Kurosawa owns this story and it can't be retold better than how he did it. The woman fighter besting the Mandolorian failed to suspend disbelief and that ruined the show for me. I don't care how B.A. she is, the Mandolorian has his arm our and past episodes show him a shrewder, superlatively skilled fighter.

This is a set-up show. We establish a bond with the the Cara babe, we have one with the sharpshooting village mother (what's her story), and a potential haven later.

Dialogue weak, story trite, poor marks. This series has the potential to be the best in SciFi. Definitely top ten, but not with episodes like this one.

Disappointment
adrianmoliere-1904730 November 2019
Hopefully the series goes back to the style of the first 3 episodes. This one felt like a series of cliche TV tropes coupled with bad acting and the characters being completely out of character. Please let this only be a filler and not set the tone for the rest of the series.
