Why a musical? Because the creators are music/musical fans, have a previous show that was a musical, interjected musical numbers in other scenes of their shows and some of their cast are Broadway actors. There are worse things than a musical numbers in a show.
The musical number was great as was their voices. One little musical number here and there in shows isn't the end of the world and I'm always down for listening to talented people sing and see a well produced musical number.
