Luv Bryan Hate Sarah
vdvv-4605317 August 2020
He has the patience of Joeb....God help him. Bossy, impatient, and overly critical. Totally unnecessary.

Why is there a series 2?
Mandatory-Field17 August 2020
Having just got hold of series 2 I'm definitely getting deja vue. It's just a re-hash of series 1 with different editing. What's the reasoning behind this?

Enjoyable Overall
jesse_jarvis25 April 2020
I've always enjoyed watching any of the projects Bryan Baeumler is involved with, and this show is no exception. I found it really interesting and unique to watch my favourite Canadian contractor tackle a project in a locale so far-flung from his usual wheelhouse; I also really appreciate how they don't sugarcoat the fact that a lot of things went wrong. Where the show loses some points is how screen-time focus is divided between construction, and the reality show-style depiction of his family life - I feel we see a bit too much of the rest of the Baeumlers, and also how his wife Sarah seems to be sneaking more and more into the spotlight. I'm not sure if it's simply the way the show is deliberately cut and edited, or if it's truly her personality, but I can't imagine how painful it must be to work with her (let alone be married to her!). On the whole, it's an enjoyable show, but be prepared for your eyes to roll back into your sockets every time Sarah's blonde head bobs into frame.

Like Bryan Not Sarah
CountryGal218 April 2022
Have been watching the show since day one, hate all the whining Sarah does, it's horrible, she is spoiled brat and doesn't understand the word no. Why her own office when she doesn't have a degree in design its her husband they gave her the break, she has very expensive taste. When she lived in Ontario she owned her own Dance Studio and sold it. They both know how to stop spending money, now Bryan had to go on his own vacation to pick up a luxury RV, when do they stop spending money? Sarah and Bryan really don't know what its like to live through a pandemic, people have lost their jobs, homes, can't pay their rent, unable to buy food and had to isolated at home. Thought this show was about the resort not about the money they are spending on the Florida home, airplane license, office space...get back to the resort or remove the show.

Can't wait till Sunday Night!
kimfletcher-467682 July 2019
Knowing that they are from Burlington and so am I, it makes me cheer harder for them.

It must be challenging living and working non stop on this project. As a couple, we hope it only makes them stronger. Being in the spotlight and working together, creative differences happen but at night you need to just try and relax. We have watched the earlier shows before the Island and alway enjoyed them.

Build a house, get out of all being in the same room, too much togetherness is too much, even in a family.(but we get why) And.... listen to each other, take the good out of what all us yahoos say and ignore the rest. Wonderful show! Love the crew from home and the island.

Too much Sarah
ic_dow14 October 2022
Seasons one and two were great, entertaining and easy to watch. Enjoyed the problem solving and rational dealing with real life construction problems.

Season three was getting a little tiring watching Sarah front and center more of the time, but I was sure that Bryan would reclaim the leadership anytime soon. Loved the kids!

Season 4, way too much Sarah and her know it all, demanding attitude. Getting hard to watch and actually skipped five of the first ten shows because I was sick of every sentence ending like a question and her unreasonable demands for more and more. It's getting actually annoying to watch for me. Think I'll move on until Bryan takes over again.

Hope Bryan shows up soon, Ian.

Love watching Bryan and Sarah and their family's adventure! What a great experience for the kids and a fantastic opportunity for the local community. Wishing them the greatest success for when the resort opens!

Lessons to be learned
hjcullen-6925623 June 2022
As long as you focus on objects, you end up chained to moving them from one place to the next. This show shows the consequences of accumulation. You end up stressed out and drowning in where to put all your possessions. The renovations themselves are skilled. The transformations and repairs are remarkable. The problems start with shopping. Sarah is so caught up in minutiae, she has lost perspective. Asking for niches to be put into showers after they are waterproofed, asking for recessed shelving and mirrors after plumbing is in- it all just isn't realistic or practical. All that packing and shipping, all the packaging. Sarah needs to reassess her relationship to the environment, and her mania for things. Once she and Bryan have completed an arduous job, they seem utterly unable to enjoy it before adding to the chaos by acquiring a new, massive project. You can see Bryan's impulse to break free of this endless cycle by wanting a mobile home. What does he do? He purchases the largest possible RV, as far away from Florida as possible, filled with all the bells and whistles. And ends up feeling trapped in it when the children, who have been trained to need toys, clothes, decorations, and paraphernalia all move in with him. A backpack and the beach would have done him a world of good. Perhaps he can learn from the islanders on Andros who live with far less.

It's compelling viewing if you don't watch it as a home renovation show, but as a family navigating their entrapment in affluence and capitalism. Will they break free?

Well done show! Insane goal
matttimon20 August 2020
This couple is crazy for doing this. They must have some deep pockets. You can tell that Brian really knows what he's doing. The show does a good job of showing the challenges of renovating on an island. He is a good example of the most calm and collected man ever as he deals with Sarah's visions and stresses. Overall, they do a damn good job as a couple to transform the place. I also found the show believable, well produced, and didn't seem too fabricated or rehearsed. Well done!

Get Sarah off the show!
jgconf19 July 2021
Bryan, kids and Staff are great! Fun show. Sarah Baumler is unpleasant. High strung, not a team player, mean, condescending to the staff! The show would be much better without her! She brings the whole show down. I feel bad for Bryan.

It Actually Gets Worse in S4
keithp-5210020 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We are seeing season 4 now in Canada and unbelievably, the series actually gets even worse. Now they have relocated from their Bahamas resort to South Florida, bought a big '80s/'90s estate, sold their Toronto estate that they built some years ago, and immediately decided to do a full reno/rebuild on the Florida house, including a $150K pool re-do. The Florida house is in a fly-in community and has an airplane hangar, so Bryan bought a private plane and is getting his pilots license. He also bought a fancy bus-sized RV for reasons that are uncertain, and picked it up in Calgary to drive it back to Florida, since apparently nothing similar was available a little closer to Florida.

Meanwhile the kids are still doing all of their expensive activities and the money is just flowing like water as he demolished half of the house and attached airplane hangar, where he wants to construct a golf cart drive-in theater for him, his kids and their friends. In addition Sarah leased unfinished space in an office building for her design business and leans on him to reno that as well while the house is in disarray, so they relocated again to a rental house for many months. Occasionally they revisit the resort to do a few small projects there, which is apparently now a huge success. Go figure.

It is all just insane. We do not know how all of his Canadian business interests are going to be handled with him no longer having a Toronto base, at least not yet. Maybe he will buy another sprawling house there soon, which will of course also need renos. Hope the river of money doesn't run out. This is now far beyond any degree of credibility it may ever have had. I have learned to PVR this show, not just to skip the numerous commercials (which in Canada also feature the Bauemlers) but also to FF through the kid segments, which are intolerable for me, along with a lot of the abject Sarah foolishness. Watch at your own risk.

Excellent

Warning: Spoilers
Love the show! Everyone criticized Sarah and I think she has an amazing eye for design! Most people with n art degree are a little OCD. It's in our nature! We need everything to perfection. I don't understand why people criticize someone that is so hardworking. Thanks for a great show!!!!

Tired of Sarah (*sigh*)
dbwilkesbw19 July 2021
I luv Bryan. Watch his stuff, every day. We were excited about this new adventure but, ot seems like Sarah must have done enough complaining about the lack of on-camera exposure, after the second season that, THIS season, every 2 minutes, it seems like, she's got to have the camera, all to herself. It's like, she's taking credit for building the show, herself. Geez 😒

Sarah needs help
mickeygrump23 August 2020
Bryan is calm and practical. Sarah is a micromanager and loves attention. I can't believe they are still married. However, the scenes where they actually show you the construction process are interesting.

I too used to love Bryan's shows
Rero6113 September 2021
Dear Producers, Loved the early Bryan shows. I did watch season one of Island of Bryan, what a great project to take on and lots of courage to do so. Unfortunately I have had trouble watching Bryan's wife (since the cottage show). Gave up watching because of Mrs. Bryan - which sucks cause I love the project and wants to see how it's progressed.. The enjoyment of watching a great project be developed with to much screen time for an angry wife to berate her decent husband on camera is just to sad to consider entertainment. As well the tone of Mrs. Bryan's voice is like listening to shards of glass. Suggest no wife or recast or at least maybe she can go to counselling (perhaps thats a good spinoff) to temper her words or just ADR over her voice. Still gave the show a 5, if it was Bryan alone with his work crew, would be a ten. Non scripted shows do not require conflict. HGTV is my happy place so I'll watch the happy show and pass by this potentially good show.

Love this family
barrett_lisa25 July 2022
I love Sarah and Bryan. Such a great couple. They work so well together and are such great parents.

I love Sarah's style and energy.

The Baeumler's are a hardworking couple and seem so well grounded in their family values.

Interesting Show
ppowell00222 May 2021
I see a lot on here don't like Sarah. I saw her once on a previous show where she was clearly put out the client didn't like her tile choice. Her rudeness was so obvious I was surprised the producers left in the scene. Yes, she can be pretty abrasive and off-putting but I've gotten used to her. I feel a little sorry for her.

People need to chill out!
troypekoske17 November 2021
I've read numerous reviews and it seems like some people love to trash on Sarah, which at times I can understand. This to me is a very entertaining show and I enjoy the back and forth between the two, there relationship is genuine but no for everyone. The bottom line is the show is entertaining and if it's not for you, change the channel...

Toxic party of 2
eva2247 September 2022
These 2 can't sit still. And are horrible for each other! I don't understand why they bought a whole new house in florida! Why not just take 2 villas and put them together as a house on the island and stay in the Bahamas!? It's like they have to be in constant chaos. And the more chaotic the worse they are toward each other. Their poor kids. They've built their dream home like 4 times now. House, cottage, lake house, MASSIVE house, hotel, florida house, office... I enjoy watching the design and construction part. But they're not a model couple by any means. They never should have taken on the hotel. They should have just stayed in Canada in their Mountie mansion.

I used to watch another show he used to host and really liked it. Tried to watch this show but cannot stomach his wife. How he tolerates her is beyond me. She's so whiny and annoying.

Loving this show. Hubby and I sit down and watch this every week. Hoping one day we can be guests. Such a creative unique idea and absolutely love that they are Canadian. It's a feel good family reality tv series, that's makes you wish you right there with them.

Thank you HGTV. Thank you Bryan, Sarah & family...

Cancel the show.
hodsonardelle18 April 2022
HGTV should cancel the show all together.

Shameful they sell everything in Canada and move to Florida. They owe Canada for all of their success and then to thumb their nose at the country and fans...shame on you.
