Good start
Just-A-Girl-1429 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So far, so good. I didn't find the episode boring or slow paced. It was interesting to get to know the characters. I was intrigued by Elena's weird behaviour towards Grace. The ending was even more interesting. Not so much that the husband was missing (since we don't really know why he left his phone or where he is) but I was more curious about Grace's nervous and strange behaviour when talking to the detectives. There's nothing we've seen that would justify it. Interesting start for what I hope would be a good thriller. I think I'm going to wait to the end of the season and binge watch the show.

Great Pilot
TheFirst0129 November 2020
HBO's new limited series The Undoing is elevated by a phenomenal Nicole Kidman in the central role, and a terrific supporting cast that make you question who the architect of the murder or the murderer was. I give this episode an 8/10 for being entertaining, harrowing, and shocking with Nicole Kidman carrying the show.

Getting the Jean Marc-Vallée vibes
ismaelfer200526 October 2020
Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects writer signs again with HBO into this mysterious and well-directed thriller. With the witty and dark cracking jokes, characteristic from Marc-Vallée and of course the particular taste in a perfect casting.

Gotta admit that I have an unfair prejudice of how done I am with Nicole Kidman playing the nicest of them all in a town full of vultures (as I am full of Reese Witherspoon's upper class blonde Karen mom performance in every show) but I always take it back when I start watching the show. Kidman gives me chills with every single thing she does. Also, Hugh Grant fits perfectly into the role and I'm looking forward to seeing what the hell happened to his character. Lily Rabe is, as always, outshining in a very different role from what I'm used to see her portraying.

An appealing opening for what it seems to be an enjoyable, emmy-contender, powerful HBO's and Jean Marc Vallée's miniseries. Let's see if it can get as good as Sharp Objects and Big Little Lies.

Nearly perfect opening episode
writer4126 October 2020
A tremendous opening episode. Everything is firing on all cylinders-acting, directing, writing, scoring... A slow build that never feels contrived. Credit all involved for accomplishing the very difficult feat of somehow blending happiness with an undercurrent of foreboding. Kidman and Grant have been friends for decades and that chemistry is evident on screen. I cannot wait for the next episode to see where it will take us.

The Undoing
foxbrvar19 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The Undoing: Já Devias Saber (2020)

Series

1st Season

Episode One - The Undoing

I agree with the guy at the beginning of the episode, there could well be a button to lower the volume of the blender.

What a mix of emotions with the victim of the episode, first I felt sorry because the women thought it was bad that she was breastfeeding the baby, then I thought it was weird that she appeared totally naked to the protagonist (I liked it, but I thought it was weird), then I felt sorry again for It's about the women talking about her at the party and her seeing a lot of men around her, lastly it also felt strange for her to kiss the protagonist.

Suspects too obvious to be ruled out:

  • The husbands, both the victim's and the protagonist's, first of all than the protagonist's husband, the direction and the script are already suspicious of him in the first episode and this already rules out any suspicion, and the victim's husband becomes very obvious, It will be very awkward if it's him.

  • Lily Rabe's character, I believe that with the exception of Nicole Kidman is the best known person in the cast (although I only know her from AHS, but she already has a legion of fans), that makes me 50%, because they Either they put a super well-known actress just to make us suspicious and it's not her or it could also be that they called her to be the killer.

  • Any other woman from that strange gossip nucleus.

  • The protagonist, for behaving strangely in front of the police.

  • I'm going to suspect the two children just because lately I've been watching some series where the killer is a child, but just to guess, of the children the biggest suspect would be the protagonist's son and maybe that's why she was acting strange around the police.

  • Some person who didn't even show up and I wrote all this for nothing.

Bonfire of the Vanities
safenoe4 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Matilda De Angelis as murder victim Elena Alves is a breakout star in this season opener. The writing is taut and the acting spot-on, with manners of NY high society being laid out bare, uncomfortable for all. Almost akin to Tom Wolfe's Bonfire of the Vanities (the novel not the movie).

The Misterious Ending
Littleman9519 February 2021
Plot: this is the introducing episode, indeed, for like 3/4 of the running length, nothing really interesting happened but it introduces every character and, more or less, their situation.

Actress and Actors & Acting: the cast is very valuable and everyone did very well their job. Let's see how they will keep going.

Soundtrack: classics never let you down. It's very enjoyable.

Conclusions: a quite slow but very good start. Let's see how they will develop the story.

A very stylish and classy Lifetime movie sprinkled with high-caliber award-winning actors
julieshotmail30 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So far, the premise of episode 1 is no more than what you would find in a garden-variety Lifetime movie. Seriously. It's a murder whodunnit with fingers that seem to be pointing at the lead male protagonist. However, this baseline is elegantly elevated into a highly captivating show. It is very well-made; Nicole Kidman delivers her best as always, and the unfolding of events is presented in a very fluid yet mysterious way. The story is about a wealthy family's fairy tale facade of a life, when deep down they are just as messed up as everyone else, or even more. I especially like how Nicole's character Grace is introduced whining about having to clean up after her son's smoothies. What a life one must have if that is all she can complain about.

Warning: Spoilers
A slow-burn of an episode bearing mysterious tones, a lot of fillers completed with good acting. At only 6 episodes, it better get pace and momentum really fast.

Seems to be following a formula
syncopatedrhythm26 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Well barring some wicked plot twist like a UFO, then we can assume Elena was fascinated with Nicole Kidman as she was doing her husband, that's why she cried at the auction, seeing them together, and staring at her, standing in front of her naked etc. Probably threatening to tell Nicole Kidman about the affair and hubby offed her

Second Kelly & Kidman meeting... But!
yusufpiskin4 November 2020
Second Kelly & Kidman meeting. It has nothing to do with 'Big Little Lies'. Unnecessary eroticism for the first part, unnecessary long scenes, unconnected dialogs...

Scenes where Kidman took to say "I'm still like a stone"

Noah Jupe appearing as an extra despite starring... This was the first episode I could not understand. I think it's rushed.

Opening for something more to follow with the drama.
cruise0126 October 2020
2.5 out of 5 stars.

First episode is dull and slow with its direction. A great cast so far. Nicole Kidman playing a character that has everything together. A career. A family. A happily married husband. When another mother in her fundraiser club is murdered. And her husband goes missing. Everything spirals out of control. Sadly, this episode is very slow moving before everything picks up with the plot.

The Undoing
bobcobb30127 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Not exciting at all is the best way to describe this. What Apple TV+ did without Defending Jacob they took away all of the aura and interest that program had, threw in a little bit of Desperate Housewives, and that is how we got to this.

I'll probably stick with it, but this was very underwhelming.

Yawn. Yawn. Yawn.
pdollak20 February 2021
I can't believe all these ratings are for real because this is not that good. The first three quarters of this episode are a big yawn. The characters are two dimensional stereotypical rich Manhattan beautiful people. The first even remotely real and relatable characters to show up are cops. Nicole is just Nicole as older Nicole and Hugh is just Hugh as older Hugh Especially Hugh. Yawn. Yawn. Yawn. Oh, and then something happens but you you knew it would and so you just wonder whatever took it so long.
