The Hungry Caterpillar
Prismark1022 July 2019
The series is getting stronger. Villanelle is fighting fit and manages to squeeze in a hit. However nothing that will take her to the executive floor.

Her new handler dislikes her. He certainly lacks the playful touch that Konstantin had.

Luckily Konstantin is still alive and Villanelle is so glad she did not kill him when he pops in to see her.

Konstantin misses his family and Carolyn will not let him see them. Eve goes behind her back and makes a deal.

As with the last series, the cat and mouse between Eve and Villanelle continues. This time Villanelle has Niko in her sights. A malicious phone call to his school, a few words with a teacher who has the hots for him.

At least Eve turns up to a school night to show the other teachers that she exists and not a figment of Niko's imagination but Niko needs to watch out. So does Eve.

Villanelle is not happy with the attention turned towards the Ghost, the new assassin in town.

It is only the third episode and Villanelle seems to back in control and so does the second series. It was good to see Nikolas Grace as the hotel manager.

A Mixed Episode Overall

Warning: Spoilers
I actually liked a few things from this episode. Villanelle as always is fabulous, Jodie Comer is just so charming, she is a perfect fit for this role. Konstantin started to grow on me with this episode, Kim Bodnia's laugh is a gem. I get the idea that Villanelle wants Eve(in a way) and the others try to stop their "reunion", but more this plot point drags, it becomes way more sillier. Eve-Villanelle relationship is weird and some might say interesting but it is silly nonetheless. Also I feel like people in the department overvalue Eve's worth. She just proved that she is intelligent and all but she had done nothing worth noting. She just gets to a scene kicks some stuff, drinks the alcohol she finds and just say things about female psychopaths and serial killers. She acts like an individual, not like a part of the team which just boggles my mind because Carolyn endures her way too much. She gives reasons such as, "They want this to be that way and stuff". I hope we get the reason why "they" want Eve to stay and Carolyn tolerates Eve's "rebellions".

Disjointed

The storyline seems to be looking for some direction. The hit in the elevator was physically impossible and where did Villanelle get the strength after having been recently stabbed?

Did they Rush The Script ?
carlcasso22 May 2019
Season 1 was incredible, great characters, great acting and great writing. I get the feeling that they were under pressure to bring Season 2 to the screen and rushed the script. The two leads are still amazing, Comer is still a delight to watch but the script is letting them down. Its not a patch on Season 1. I'm hoping they take their time for Season 3 and bring us back the amazing show that it was.

Don't get me wrong - it's still good.

Warning: Spoilers
However - the writing seems a bit unpolished. The series is still going from start to end in a similar pace as the first season. But the script seems to do the characters a disservice. Villanelle is too smart and strong of an antagonist to find herself in such an unfortunate situation - and stay there; with seemingly no reason other than locked doors. The details are missing, and for an already unbelievable story line: the characters and their dynamic is what keeps you going.

I am still intrigued, and hoping for the best.
