A better version of "How it Works"
Bernie444426 March 2024
Each episode has two or three of what they call inventions. The presentation is split into sections as we are introduced to the item. Then we get a history of the item and related uses. Then we get the secrets as to what makes the invention work. Next, we get a step-by-step manufacturer. Occasionally there is a Mr. Wizard section on the home making the device or fantastic properties displayed. We see a shanking machine in mixed company.

The drawback is that if you are familiar with the item, you will notice that the history is just a gloss over and misses most of the useful history and weird purposes. The narrator (Patric O'Hara) has a nasty speech impediment; oh, that is British English.

On manufacturing they are a tad closer to "How it works" you cannot afford to overlook it. Yet, just as you think "I can make that." They say this is proprietary or proprietary elements. Many of the processes seem dated (2016,) clunky, or skipped. They use generic terms as grinding device. A brake press becomes a press break. I realized that the reason for the odd manufactured items was because it is partly "name recognition" and expensive hand wrought items.

In the Mr. Wizard part (Stephen Gazard,) my favorite is Duct Tape becomes Gaff Tape; there may be a tad different. There are exotic and funning Wizard experiments peppered throughout the individual episodes. In one he is even forced to eat homemade margarine.

I was intrigued by the invention of computers. You could write a whole library on the history and progress of computers. So, they had to choose what to put in this program and the manufacturer of Raspberry Pi 2. Currently, we are up to Raspberry Pi 5. You will have to check on the latest yourself. I lived through several eras and worked with vacuum tubes, and breadboards. You lose a tad of understanding when you start with Raspberry Pi.

By episode 10 they sort of stretch what they find to show. We do have a blond using an auto-injector. Who would ever suspect that Saran Wrap is really cling film? We have pictures of women that have been cling filmed.

We get a quickly view of the world wide web. Because they have to select what to say and sometimes sound like gobbledygook. They forget to tell you that we have been separated from shell accounts and the use of Archie and Veronica.

By now you have an idea of the program. Watch and enjoy.

VHS type static in editing
mtrehaniu28 March 2024
There is useless noise every few seconds with VHS imitation of vertical hold problems....very annoying. The content is good, but editing is horrible. The imitation of static in video and audio is so annoying that we stopped watching the show.

Please have someone else re-do the editing and it could be worth watching.

The show otherwise is good, but keeps you from watching. The person who edited the video seems to be so taken with noises like Whoosh, and static every few seconds that he/she makes it the main focus. As the narrator is explaining an interesting topic, it's Whoosh...well Whoosh I must Whoosh stop Whoosh here...lol.
