A good episode, but not without it's bad moments. I know Hollywood, or New York, in this case, make fantasy tv, but the trying to make anyone believe a Texan would move to NYC, is lunacy. It is the other way around. Trying to make a Texas father look naive and stupid, making snarky remarks about stand your ground laws, was a veiled slice of bigotry from left wing writers. Also, making retired NYC retired cop and cab driver an irresponsible , over the edge concealed carrier, who shoots and apparent unarmed man, is possible, I suppose, but not likely. The Police Sergeant Jamie Reagan ,chides him, for not having his " License" to Carry with him, Retired cops in real life are not required to get State issued concealed carry permits. They can get authorization to conceal carry anywhere in the United States, and territories, on the Federal level, under The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, of 2004. Retire in good standing, carry a Department retired ID card, and qualify with their handgun, at least one a year. Keep it real.

Writer change..and characters

This episode in specific was a little disheartening for us because we gotten used to Tom Selleck's character being levelheaded and not so hardheaded or conservative and choices that he's making us a character.. This episode brought out at Frances Reagan that we didn't like very much. Seems to me as a few episodes this season have been like this, and it's making us consider turning away from the show. It's getting too heavy handed, less respectful.
Stand up to the Left

I thought the episode was stellar. In line with Tom Selleck's character, he attempts to talk with the psychotic social activist Professor, who seemed to be a black Blasie Ford, in reasoned approach. J. Feliz, who believes she holds the moral high ground, doesn't admit anything she did was wrong when the PC outs her for being apart of the 'fake' protestor having his foot run over. She stands her ground when wrong in the face of being of ethical character. Tom Selleck stood his ground and told the whack job that the next go around was going to be no holds barred. The grumbling about competing story lines is what happens when you have a large cast and wish to highlight many talents.
Why can't the Commissioner eat his lunch in peace?

This Blue Bloods episode begins with Tom Selleck trying to have a quiet business
lunch when he's disrupted by a gang of activists led by Juani Feliz. When he
leaves the restaurant allegedly his driver might have run over an investigator's
foot. That's up for investigation, still the headlines come.
Newly minted sergeant Will Estes now a training officer himself breaks up a disturbance between a passenger and a cabbie. The cabbie is Kevin Chapman who was formerly a cop. Estes and old partner Vanessa Ray have some serious disagreement about how to handle this situation.
The most serious plot element in this episode is Steven Schirippa interrupting a psycho stabbing people at a psychiatrist's office. Files were stolen among them his ex-wife's. Schirippa who usually is a pretty calm voice of reason is harassing the assigned detectives on the case. In the meantime his boss Bridget Moynahan is hosting ex-wife Kate Miller and her daughter and they have a good heart to heart talk on many things.
For once Donnie Wahlberg gets the relatively minor subplot. His new neighbor doesn't like his daughter hanging around with the Reagan grandson. But he finds out later having a cop for a neighbor can be valuable.
Good episode to begin 2019 with.

Taking cheap shots at Texas, now?

Warning: Spoilers
The stereotyping of people who live in "Texas" is laughable. Are the writers asleep over there? Bored? Or just pissed off because for the tongue lashing PC Reagan gave the smug leftist community organizer had to be balanced equally with an attack on people from Texas? BB's need to stick to its core narrative and stop insulting the core share of its audience, which is probably Republicans, many of whom, from Texas! This would be the same demographic that actually understands the 'stand your ground' laws. Come on Danny, seriously? You know better.
Becoming more lying left.

The redneck Texas neighbor, give me a break.
You might want to study up on "stand your ground laws".
Yes, in Texas, there's a chance that the guy they want to catch in the alley and beat up is going to be legally armed. Yes, running might be a good choice, but not in all cases or with all people.
Sorry New York.

Terrible Storylines

There is so much going on that it all crashes and losses momentum and just putters out. By the time you get to the end of the episode you do not feel like you just got off of an amazing ride. In fact it feels like you got on the ride ready to go looked around and realized that the park is closed and you have no idea why you are even there. This show is one of my favorites but after the last few episodes I am watching only out of loyalty with a glimmer of hope that they wake up and get new writers.
