Exclusive: WME has signed writer Valentina Garza, whose credits include co-executive producer roles on the CW’s Jane the Virgin and ABC’s The Baker and the Beauty.
Garza, who is currently under an overall deal at Universal Television, also wrote and executive produced the Jane spinoff pilot Jane the Novela; the project ended up not going forward. She also has developed for Lee Daniels Productions/20th as well as ABC Studios/ABC.
This most recent development season, Garza sold a Latinx family drama to NBC. It revolved around an explosive incident that brings a woman’s mentally ill mother crashing back into her life. She’s now forced to revisit her family’s painful past and blur carefully constructed boundaries between her mother and the family she’s chosen.
The project explores themes of race, mental health, housing instability, immigration and generational trauma.

Spider-Man: Far From Home features some of our favorite returning Marvel stars, including Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Jacob Batalon (Ned), and Zendaya (Mj). But there are also some new, insanely attractive faces gracing the big screen with their presence. One of the standout hunks is the character Brad Davis, who competes with Peter for Mj's attention. So, who plays him? Say hello to 32-year-old Remy Hii.
In the comics, Brad is the star quarterback at Empire State University where he and Mj date. But in the McU, he's introduced as a suave ladies' man, amassing countless eye-rolls and side-eyes from Peter. When half of all living things get snapped to dust in Avengers: Infinity War - an event dubbed "the blip" - those who disappear into oblivion don't age within the five years it takes for the Avengers to get back on track and ultimately defeat Thanos. Spider-Man: Far From Home reveals that Peter,...

The CW decided to pass on a series order for “Jane the Virgin” spinoff “Jane the Novela” because the pilot simply “did not have what ‘Jane’ had,” according to CW President Mark Pedowitz.
“It didn’t have the full quirkiness and fun,” Pedowitz told TheWrap during a conference call ahead of its 2019 upfronts presentation to advertisers on Thursday.
But that doesn’t mean that we won’t see more of Jane one day — depending on what show creator Jennie Snyder Urman and star Gina Rodriguez come up with next.

The CW just picked up three of its six pilots to series, Batwoman, Katy Keene and Nancy Drew. Here is the status of the three that were left off, Glamorous, The Lost Boys and Jane the Novela.
Glamorous remains in contention, with a pickup decision will come soon, possibly before the CW’s May 16 upfront presentation; The Lost Boys will be retooled and re-piloted off-cycle; while the Jane the Virgin offshoot Jane the Novela is not going forward.
Glamourous, which hails from Damon Wayans Jr. and his Two Shakes Entertainment, writer Jordon Nardino and CBS TV Studios, had been considered a leading contender alongside Batwoman, Katy Keene and Nancy Drew and was the only original concept in the bunch.
Written by Nardino, Glamorous centers on a gender-nonconforming recent high school graduate (Ben J. Pierce) who lands the gig of a lifetime interning at a cosmetics company whose products he panned on YouTube.

By this time next year, many of the brightest lights in the current TV universe will cease to shine.
Some of the most popular and acclaimed shows are set to air their swan songs this year and during the 2019-20 broadcast season. While programs come and go all the time, the sheer number of iconic offerings that are ending in rapid succession is notable.
HBO will say goodbye to both “Game of Thrones” and “Veep” before the year is out; “The Big Bang Theory” is ending its 12-season run this spring on CBS; both “Homeland” and “The Affair” are wrapping up on Showtime later this year; ABC’s “Modern Family” will air its final episodes next season; and The CW mainstays “Supernatural” and “Arrow” will fade out after 2020, while “Jane the Virgin” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” are wrapping up this spring. In all, these series have won 106 Emmys and been nominated 370 times.
