Little My Moves In
Prismark1024 April 2019
The Moomins are back in a brand new CGI series with an all star cast.

The first episode sees the Moomins hospitality reach breaking point as Mymble comes for a very long visit with her brood of kids. It is almost a takeover of the Moomin household.

Moomintroll wants to go and build his own house as he loses his bedroom.

I think kids will enjoy this series based on the first episode. They will learn valuable lessons such as not inviting people to stay in your home.

Difficult themes and beautiful animation
moominfan24 February 2019
Moominvalley, like Tanoshii Mumin Ikka, has from the first episode been succesful in establishing the most essential aspect which is handling difficult themes, in the first episode the emphasis is on growing up and independence. These themes are what establish the emotional depth in different characters as in many characters play different roles in supporting emotional growth. Jansson's touch of melancholy still permeates through the CGI-animated, somewhat coerce textures and occasionally-jaunty animation, all thanks to Mr. Box' well-intended dedication to the source material.

As a hardcore fan of the anime series, the series' first episode pleases me. Certainly the frequency of musical elements feels somewhat alien and being able to relate to the songs is also what made the anime series important, but the energy and unique humor are still in high place and seek homage more from the comics and books than from previous animations.

But the most important thought is that is it benefiting the child audience. I think it will, the first episode had many magical moments that I would've expected from the 1990s anime, many which would most certainly inspire nostalgia the same way the original inspires in me.

Again, pros being a very energetic, mature take on CGI animation series for children, close inspiration from Jansson's works and succesful character- and world-building, cons being in the animation occasionally lacking energy or grip to what is in the scene and the textures. I'm really pleased with the pilot episode and can't wait for the next one.

Like the old 90s moomins serie, this feels/sounds like the moomins I grew up with.
