Enjoying the unfolding of the plot
sylvanhill116 February 2020
I know the overall story is slightly juvenile, but I am thoroughly enjoying this show. I love it now that the good guys are finally ganging together.

Finally something happens and why is everybody thr dumbest persone when they have a chance to be it
gabeszkacsa8 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After the previous episode where not too muxh is really happening for 45 minutes, we get some story, which is nice, but why is everybody so dumb? So they find the key to the crown of shadows, give it to Ellie, who then goes back to her place to pick up the crown. The one place, where the echo, Dodge/Lucas lives with them for like a month and who is everybodies enemy in the moment. Of course, she takes the key with herself for some godforsaken reason. She finds the crown, but there is Lucas there sitting in the dark, like all good evil guys do, and of course she doesn't put on the crown, why would she, the crown, what spawns powerful shadows that do what the wearer of the crown says. Nonono, she tries to talk out the fact that they took the echoes keys and THEN Rufus, the mightiest boy of all attacks the echo why a screwdriver which he knows won't do anything because he was told like 15 minutes ago that nothing can hurt the echo and that's why they need the crown to defeat it. Whywhyhwywhy do you all need to be so dumb?

And this is where they lost me
ThatDoesntMatter9 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Up to this episode I had enjoyed the series, good acting, a bit of intrigue and fantasy, kids and teens not stereotyped too much.

But (spoiler ahead)

The moment they let Ellie leave with the key the balloon popped for me... It had lost air already because Ellie is a relatively weak character, and she remembers and knows but nothing gets explained as to how she knows / the gang of the past knew.

It was a lame and predictable and unlikely slip to let her fetch the crown by herself and With The Key, something the siblings just wouldn't have done, it was silly and stupid.

I am going to watch episode 10 but just to finish, my interest and connection are gone.

Stupidity used again to further the plot
mavericksy12 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Once again the writers insult us by using sudden onset of stupidity to further the plot. Let me take the key in my pocket back to the location of the enemy so the worse case scenario is possible. If the writers want Dodge to have a key or whatever to get the story we're they want they just make everyone stupid for an episode. Episode S1E7 same thing, everyone became idiots.

Dumb dumb dumb!!
simacca11 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Was enjoying the series and it's flaws up until this episode. Why would they let Ellie take the shadow key back where dodge was? Who wrote this stupid piece of script. Why didn't Ellie give all the keys that rufus hid to the lockes? Dodge can't take them without permission. I'm gutted because I have now lost interest in the show. Fire the scriptwriters and get some new ones in for the next series.

Unforgivable
Rob-O-Cop25 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We've been watching the series and managing to overlook the teen romance high school carry on as the basic premise and gorgeous world building has been enough to help us overlook the missteps, but Ellie taking the Crown of Shadows key home with her was just unforgivable. I don't know if this detail was in the original comics or not but it was a back smashing straw of a clunky script that should have been corrected. Ok so Ellie needed to take the key back to her house but find another way to make that happen rather than 4 dumb people didn't even think for a second that it might be the exact opposite of a smart move. Make Ellie panic, make them have a fight and her leave, This show has so much potential, just look at His Dark Material to see how you can take the material seriously. This is a wonderful intriguing idea of a story and it does hurt to see it treated without the respect it deserves, and to see the audience also disrespected by serving this terrible plot device to us. How dumb do you think we are? I love the FX, general story, most of the actors are ok and some of them are good, the setting, and the set design and props. Who ever designed the keys did a lovely job. Take it to Series 2 please but step up your game and make these characters and their actions at least believable. Thank you for making this show.

Yes Ellie, take this key I found
killmyselfinyourbed24 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
That is the single worst bit of logic I have seen in writing or in writing a characters logic. When Dodge outright admits to an inability to taking keys from a Locke, and Ellie has done nothing but lie up to this point, could be anyone, is responsible for the death of Rendell, and has been helping Dodge, for what freaking possible reason would anyone of even average intelligence not only allow Ellie to return to her house, where Dodge is, with the keys she brought, but hand her the key to the crown which is also at her house where Dodge is? I hope to god one of the writers for this show reads this comment and is ashamed for throwing such a trash, lazy piece of writing into an otherwise outstanding show. Not only do I now have a bone to pick with the writing, but I have lost all respect for the Locke children as characters and interest in this show I was truly enjoying. What a freaking travesty. BE ASHAMED

A plastic bag over someone's head - ruled suicide?
jeroen-10622 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So weird. Guy is murdered with a plastic bag - strangled and suffocated. And the cop dude rules it a suicide because the guy happened to be lonely and his wife happened to pass around that time a few years back?

Sloppy writing. And this is just an example of many cheap shortcuts.

Okay, one more. Going back to the place where the bad guy lives to pick up the crown... with the key! How stupid can a character be. Contrived drama for sure. The writers are quite lazy and don't think things through before putting it on paper.

I don't know if I can keep watching much longer.

I'm only this far, but...
ejsimpson100418 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There's a season 2, and I HOPE TO GOD that the characters weren't written to do the dumbest of things. Nina needs improvement, and the coincidences are covered by the "whispering of the keys"... fine, I can live with those things.

BUT, Take the crown key back to the crown location... where the villain has been living??? What the hell?!

Contrived Tension and Drama
pownjesus24 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show is disappointing because the writers and director use contrived drama to move the story along - and it's painful.

Send Ellie home with Rufus to bring the key that Lucas is after is beyond contrived - it's mind numbingly stupid.

You can create suspense and drama without forcing characters to be stupid.

NOOOO, WHYYY?
missskalin12 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
WHY turn something so great into something so dumb and lame? Got so hooked on this series, right up to this bad written, predictable episode with the dumbest scenarios. Why did Ellie take the key? Kinda ruined the series for me... Suddently all the character development flew right out the window and everyone just turned into brainless stereotypical characters... I am so dissapointed

Mehhhh!!
cammymitchell20 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was enjoyable up till episode 9. Even with all the unbelievable decisions. Then Ellie takes the keys but not the crown. Why? In for a penny and all that... Then she takes the key back to her house for no reason. Other than making it easy for struggling writers to keep some kind of a storyline going. Don't think I'll even bother with the last episode. Wasn't that good in the first place.

WELL...
W011y4m527 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode would've been brilliant if the explanations provided actually made any logical sense...

I know this is a show about magical keys being hidden around an old spooky house but come on! Even with this considered, some of the revelations genuinely did challenge my suspension of absolute disbelief.

A man was brutally murdered, obvious signs of a struggle would've been present in the form of physical markings across the floor of the room, a post mortem would've also concluded that the asphyxiation was NOT self inflicted & there was DNA evidence left all across the crime scene... But the police diagnosed it as an apparent suicide? Really?

Really?

REALLY!?

Unbelievable!
flgrovez27 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are always dumb decisions made in shows and I suppose that is probably pretty accurate knowing people. This, however, goes beyond pale. Firstly everyone noticed how incredibly stupid it was to allow Ellie to take the key back to her house where the crown is, and where Dodge has been staying. Secondly, why does no one check the fake Dodge, that no one is aware is fake, for keys. She always has the anywhere key on her. This isn't one person having a brain fart, this is a group of people sharing a very small group of brain cells that barely maintain their breathing ability. The writers need to do better.

Ellie is too stupid to live...
trekkergy25 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Really... Having made it through NINE TORTUROUS EPISODES of this schlock, that's the only conclusion one can reach. The sheer stupidity of the writing in this series makes the "Archie" comics of yore seem like high literature. To make it to this point in the story and find out that all, ALL of the pain, heartbreak, violence, fear and DEATH that's plagued the Locke family and their friends could have been avoided if only Ellie wasn't such a pathetically gormless excuse for a human being. So hung up on a high school boyfriend that even 25 YEARS after his death she'd do something so stupid is just beyond comprehension, even for the hormonal teenagers who seem to be the target audience of this show.
