One of the best episode in all DCTV shows
rohitakki-5325720 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had everything, I loved the character of Henry King aka Brainwave Jr. Everything was so perfect about this episode, fight between stargirl and dragon king, hour man trying to mesh with Solomon Grundy. Everything was so special.

I'm loving this show even more than The Flash season 1.

Can a villain be redeemed?
GomezAddams66620 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This week's episode is without a shadow of a doubt, the best one yet.

When Barabara discovers Courtney's secret identity as Stargirl, she is less than impressed, and to make matters worse, the Cosmic Staff has been kidnapped by Icicle (Neil Jackson).

Courtney will have to convince her friends that Henry (Jake Austin Walker) can help them retrieve the staff, but they are reluctant to believe a bad person can change.

The episode has a greatly choreographed fight scene against some members of the Injustice Society of America, but beyond that the narrative is incredibly well written, as it deals with a subject matter that every superhero story has: redemption, because Henry finds it before he meet his end by someone who unlike him cannot be redeemed.

The third act is incredibly exciting and emotional. But the battle for the soul of Blue Valley has only begun.

My heart broke

This episode had all the feels. I felt the ending science between Yolanda and Henry. That broke my heart. And the whole situation with pat and Courtney's mom was interesting. But the part that really got me was Henry's death. I really felt for his character.

Holy damn
sanketbansal-5736320 July 2020
By far, the best episode this season and could be one of the best episodes on CW shows this year. Had it all, revelations, heartbreaking moments. That being said, it's gonna be fun to see where it goes from here

What an episode!
sebbironaldo20 July 2020
This episode was everything I want Stargirl to be, the action in this episode was really good. The writers did a very good job with this episode. This is my favorite show post-crisis. If this show gets connected to the arrowverse... oh damn.

Climax Starts
lestatbesa20 July 2020
Best Episode so far!! I enjoy the tension, the character development specially Henry King Jr. and foreshadowing for the future episodes. From the past episodes I thought I am going to quit watching this because I am start to lose interest on story but the end of Episode 9 give me a bit of hope and it does not disappoint. Now, I can't for another week to watch the new episode!

The anticipated fight between the JSA vs ISA didn't disappoint, one of the best episodes yet.
Holt34421 July 2020
The episode begins with a very light tone when Pat and and Barbara first met and then it shifts back to the present day and the tone change is brilliantly done. Last week's episode was a build up for this and it was worth it, there's some great writing and story telling in this episode. The previous episode had almost no action but the huge amount of character development and backstory for Brainwave was worth it as this episode builds on that and has all the things you want for a superhero show. It was an overall incredible episode with lots of memorable moments, maybe even the best one yet. There were one fight sequence that I liked and it was how they mixed all the heroes' powers and gymnastic skills into the choreography, it was one of the highlights!

The acting was phenomenal in this episode, in my opinion Jake Austin Walker had the best performance, but there were many who did believable and great performances. There were also some great stunt work and fight choreography in this episode that mixed fighting with CGI and it was some of its best visual and special effects. The makeup department should also get some praise for their work on some of the characters.

The Easter egg in the opening sequence was awesome, "Strange Adventures" Tom King is writing the latest comic book run on that, a comic that first got published in the 50's.

Very Emotional!!
KookShanty22 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode pulled the heartstrings very well, with Pat and Barbara's relationship starting in a heartwarming opening scene, shifting to concerns of divorce, and ending with some hope. Henry Jr. also got lots of emotional moments, kicking off with what seemed like hope for Henry Sr. and of course the tragic ending. Henry Sr. was significantly more developed in this episode, showing both hope and how horrible he really is. Finally, the Dragon King fight was quite cool.

Good, not great, but never a dull moment.
jamericanbeauty22 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Profound moment of discovery and solidarity between Father and Son (Henry/Brainwave Sr. and Jr.) in that hospital scene. We got more backstory for Brainwave, which I loved. By end of episode, we learn Brainwave's true evil nature. The bad: How convenient to the plot for Brainwave to have amnesia after waking from a coma? He won't remember Stargirl put him in a coma. Will he remember Courtney is Stargirl? Barb is sleuth enough to record the Mahkent Family speaking in Norwegian, but not smart enough to lock her office computer (we all know her Boss Jordan Mahkent/Icicle will see the email-reply about Courtney / Stargirl next episode). Dragon King, a century-old, hand-to-hand combat specialist struggled to beat Stargirl without her Cosmic Staff?! Of course, her homegirl Wildcat throws it to her just in time to stop Dragon King's deadly blow. Henry Jr.'s death ends the episode. Henry Jr and his Dad always had a cold, detached relationship, but I didn't think his Dad would kill him. As Henry Jr. is dying, he says sorry to Yolanda/Wildcat again and I rolled my eyes. Cindy Burman actually leaked the topless picture of Yolanda as we learned in Episode 4: Wildcat.

The adult characters save this show
hnt_dnl22 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I honestly have not cared for most of the teenage characters so far on this show. Yolanda and Cindy are the only 2 that have actual depth and maintain my interest and attention and I feel like both actresses nail their parts, but neither of them get nearly enough screen time. Courtney started off strong, but gets more annoying with each episode. Rick and Beth are just UGH characters! Like, I wish this duo would just disappear off the series entirely.

But the one teen character that I feel like I'm in the minority of never caring for is Henry. I mean, what has he really done in 10 episodes but repeat the same character beats? Constipated mind-reading face, stagnant hospital room vigil, obnoxious disoriented slouch-walking, unnaturally weird facial reactions to other characters. The actor is literally TRYING to act instead of just being natural. Honestly, I think the actor has been borderline terrible in this role. To piggyback off of a review I read in last week's episode, a much better actor would have done better with these 2 Henry episodes. Contrast this to the 2 Cindy episodes where Meg DeLacy CARRIED both of them start to finish.

This episode BRAINWAVE JR was totally carried and saved by all of the adult characters Pat, Barb, Icicle, Dragon King, and especially Brainwave himself. It took Brainwave SR to save the episode that was supposed to be carried by Brainwave Jr! Christopher James Baker was brilliant in believably essaying an amnesiac Henry Sr in the first two acts, while transitioning back to his early season cold-blooded Brainwave nature in the final act. Amy Smart finally gets to stretch her acting chops in this one as Barb. Luke Wilson continues to be sublime. And Neil Jackson (as Icicle) and Nelson Lee (as Dragon King) are superb as usual.

In addition to the adults, this episode had a real flow and pace to it that I don't think this show has enjoyed since the earlier part of the season. And as bad as the acting is in general for the teen arcs, I will say that the writers did throw in a few funny moments that worked even in their scenes. The climactic dungeon fight scene was awesome. The ending should have been more powerful than it was, but unfortunately, they really miscast the character of Henry. I just don't feel as if this character earned the ending given to him.

Best episode
jwwalrath-227-8548722 July 2020
This is a very good episode. It contains some wonderful moments and fight scenes. It'd be perfect if they didn't beat you over the head with that one steadfastly held assumption of Stargirl. Her theory is handled in such a dumb manner.

Intense and shocking
dami300123 July 2020
Maybe best episode of the season. Love story, very good action, revelations, and intense family ties.

The climax of the episode is intense, emotional and shocking.

I hope the season continues to grow like this.
