Season 8 continues to impress with one of Arrow's best episodes yet!!!
EddyTheMartian0076 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This was truly an amazing episode. Easily one of Arrow's best. This season of Arrow has just been so good. The premiere was an amazing episode and callback to season 1. Then we got episode 2, that even though it's the weakest episode in the season was still great, with some of Earth 2 Black Canary's best scenes, and really used to set up the rest of the season. Episode 3 was even better bring back Thea and giving is some truly emotional scenes. Now we get what I think is the best episode in the entire season so far, bringing the characters from the future forwards, and making them actually work. I think most people aren't too fond of the future forwards, but this episode makes it so worth it. Every character was so perfect this episode. They all had their moments.

Oliver meeting with Mia and William, seeing how they interact and even learn from each other. The scenes with William were just wholesome, and Mia got some real character development. Also learning about what happened to Star City... wow. Diggle with Conner, and learning about JJ, and their conflict and resolution. That was some tough love, but great nonetheless. Rene having to deal with his Daughter's potential death, and how he becomes corrupt. Even Dinah had something to do, helping others cope. E2 Laurel helping out Mia, and the rest of the team in general. Everyone just became better and were developed this episode. They all had their place. Heck, Curtis had his place too, and was surprisingly a nice return.

This episode just brought everyone together and they all gave it their best. All the actors, and especially Stephen Amell gave some of their best performances in the show. However, this episode does have a few significant flaws. One of them would probably have to be Grant Wilson. It's not an issue with the character at all, I really like him, but timeline wise it makes absolutely no sense. Based on what has been previously said about the character, he would be a teenager right now, and it seems like a really stupid plot hole to contain. How about just changing him to Joe Wilson. Additionally I think he was underused, like he really didn't do much. Not to mention how It's just incredibly convenient that the Future Team Arrow happens to come the same day that Grant Wilson returns. Also I found it weird how Grant has JJ's suit. It makes sense for the misdirect, which I thought was pretty well handled despite other blunders, but why wouldn't Grant use a suit more similar to his Dad? I guess it could be explained that Grant gave it to JJ. I wish Slade would've come back to make this episode even better, but that's just wishful thinking, everything that happened was just exceeded all my expectations. I do wish this episode was maybe split into 2 episodes, because it does feel rushed at times, the future team Arrow needed a little more time with the present team Arrow. Which is actually why I'm really glad that they are staying longer. Kinda expected this to be for one episode, but I'm glad it isn't. Although it actually does create some silly problems. In a recent episode of The Flash, it is revealed that Time Travel cannot happen because of Crisis. Now suddenly these characters are able to time travel with no problems? Also that was never explained. Consequently doesn't it reveal to Team Arrow that Crisis On Infinite Earths gets resolved? I mean how else would it explain their children being alive in the future? Now since I seriously did love this episode, I really don't want to let these negligent flaws hurt the episode to much. Perhaps it will be better explained in another episodes. I'm just afraid that this final season of Arrow is going to continue with these inconsistencies, contrivances, consciences, and holes. I just hope too many of these issues don't start to boggle down what has been an excellent season so far.

In spite of all my problems, once again I'm incredibly excited for the next episode of Arrow. Not only with that epic Black Canary reveal with the Monitor, but also because of the return to Russia. Personally the Russian storyline on Arrow has been one of my favorites, and I found it to be quite underrated. I hope we see characters like Anatoly return, since he's always a delight. Wow just wow, this was truly a brilliant episode of Arrow. Thank you.

Loved pretty much everything about this episode! Finally seeing the future characters interact with the main cast was so fun to see! Also, now with the future scenes gone we can finally focus on a single storyline! Overall, a really great emotional episode!

Loved Oliver and adult William conversations. All of them had proper substance in context to current situations and last season.

Future Team Arrow meets Present Team Arrow!!

Warning: Spoilers
After the insane cliffhanger in last week's episode, this episode found its footing right away. The interactions between Oliver, William and Mia were all heartfelt and emotional. I adored the scene where William comes out to his father about his sexuality.

This episode fittingly titled "Present Tense" was a homage to season 2. It featured the Deathstroke gang led by Grant Wilson. It is disappointing that his father Slade Wilson did not appear. I was hoping that J.J would be appearing in this episode. That would make a great father and son moment between Diggle and J.J. Luckily, there was plenty of these moments in this episode.

The scenes Diggle had with his soon-to-be adoptive son Connor was quite heartwarming and Diggle's skepticism in the beginning was understandable.

All of the reactions from the characters were on point and quite realistic. Mia stepping away from his father at first was quite a neat parallel to when Felicity stepped back from Oliver in season 3 episode 12.

Curtis returned this episode and helped Oliver to figure out a way to oppose the Monitor. This leads him to Russia in episode 5 titled "Prochnost." I wonder when Oliver will find out that the Monitor is not the enemy here.

This episode began Renee's quest of becoming Mayor of Star City. The future has been altered and his daughter may still be alive in this new timeline. Seeing Zoe as a child again was bittersweet. Renee's reaction to finding out that his daughter was stabbed by Diggle's son J.J was on point.

The episode did not explain why Connor, William and Mia were sent to the future in the first place. After not appearing in episode 3, the Monitor showed up and gave Laurel an impossible ultimatum. He offers her the chance to return to Earth-2. I do not know how the Monitor is able to bring back a whole universe. I thought this was beyond his capabilities. I wonder what Laurel will decide to do. Is she really going to betray Oliver?

I cannot begin to fathom how insane and mind blowing this season has gotten up to this point. Each episode completely surprises me in a different way. While the ending of this week's episode is not as mind boggling as last week's ending, it is still shocking. I guess Connor, William and Mia are staying in the present day a little longer. Perhaps they will be sent back in episode 7.

To conclude, this episode was amazingly written and acted by all actors especially Stephen Amell, Ben Lewis and Katherine McNamara. Their mannerisms and facial expressions were on point and fitted perfectly. Season 8 is shaping up to become the best season of Arrow yet. I am enthused to see more of Oliver and Mia's dynamic in the coming episodes.

The Future Is Now!
highmarksreviews6 November 2019
One of the most fascinating parts of "Present Tense" was the fact that it didn't fully deliver on the homages it planned on. It totally bummed the Deahtstroke tribute act in my opinion. Alas, Manu Bennett is an irreplaceable part of Arrow. On the other hand, the flash-forwards are finally, FINALLY fixed.

With the game-changing twist of Team Arrow 2.0 being transported to Star City 2019, the show really made the most of its extended cast and their complicated family dramas this week. This was some of the best dialogue written to date. Whether it was Oliver-William, Diggle-Connor, Curtis-William, Mia-Laurel, the dialogue landed and meant something. The acting was also spot-on, with the displaced 2040 characters strengthening their game significantly. No more annoying flashes forward to a bleak Star City for meaningless, dull side-missions. Bringing all the major players together in one room and one mission really worked.

Now, in terms of the Deathstroke treatment. Wasn't great, but serviceable enough I guess. The conflict felt rushed and minor in comparison to the far-superior dramatic material going on elsewhere. The action scenes weren't particularly memorable either. They were quick and admittedly, a tad choppy at times.

There was also an annoying final scene that just felt worthless. I won't spoil who is involved, but the twist comes with a head-scratch. It would be familiar ground for the show and the character in question. Their arc is near-complete. I would prefer it kept that way.

"Present Tense" ultimately squanders the Deathstrokes and their new leader with limited action scenes and zero care devoted to its true threat. On the other hand, it absolutely nailed the merging of 2019 and 2040. The family drama propelled the episode forward with shocking and touching revelations. It just felt right and made sense considering the weight of the twist at hand. Yes, this episode is imperfect in a lot of ways, but come on. The flash-forwards are finally fixed and over for the foreseeable time the show has left.

The Beggining of the Future!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was just awesome! I loved seeing all the reactions with Team Arrow and their grown up children all of them were done so well. The performances were what made this episode, especially Stephen Amell. My only problem I think I have is that the deathstroke plot line didn't really feel as fleshed out as it could be, but it was a decent plot point. And looks like we are going to Russia next episode. Plus that ending, WTF Laurel! Overall Arrow at its absolute best and can't wait to see how they wrap things up

Warning: Spoilers
Stephen's acting again top notch. Loved all the interactions and the main storyline.

CAN'T STAND Mia's behavior. Sorry folks... she is nothing like Oliver was and you disgrace him by saying so. And her threatening to take down Oliver by the elevator because she was trained by Nissa? She's out of her freaking mind! He could take down Nissa, took down Merlin (twice) and was trained by and killed Ra's al Guhl. And she's 120 pounds lighter. Get a grip Arrow.

He never acted like an ass just because he thought he was tougher than everyone else.

No Sense of Urgency Yet
ThomasDrufke6 November 2019
I've grown accustomed to hearing praise Stephen Amell would give on Twitter to a certain episode and then find out later, it's not all that great anyway. It didn't use to be that way, but when he said that his scene with William in this episode was his favorite all season long, it got me a little concerned. And once again, the season has decreased in quality in its 4th week.

Sure, it's somewhat interesting seeing the present and future storylines combined, and I guess it finally got me to pay attention to the scenes between William and Mia, but it certainly didn't elevate the episode the way I hoped. However, I don't know how many times I've said it but Stephen Amell is once again on top of his game emotionally this week. Proving that there is no Arrowverse without him, at least to me. But that really brings me to the next complaint which is that Arrow has gone back to not being about Ollie. We don't need a full ensemble to tell his story every week, and I much preferred the first two episodes where it focused on Oliver's mission (which is what again?).

A half-a**ed attempt at a Deathstroke arc and the siege 2.0 turned out to be borderline laughable, it's a wonder that Manu Bennett probably doesn't come back this year. Look, there's only a handful of episodes left of Arrow, I would like to see a little bit more urgency with the storytelling, which means explaining what exactly Ollie's mission is. 4 down, 6 to go. No time to waste.

Deathstroke is back!
landonkiltz6 November 2019
Having a version of Deathstroke back was really cool, Grant Wilson still has a very menacing presence, but Slade Wilson is still really missed. That being said I'm sick of the future cast, everyone with the exception of Conor Hawke is horribly written and can't act.

The two time-lines have merged and with that comes one of the season's best episodes
Holt3446 November 2019
The future storyline have merged with the original storyline and that makes for some of the best dialogue of this season and we also get some nostalgia in a fresh way of the new Deathstroke which is the successor of Slade Wilson, his own son. There is a lot of memorable moments and nostalgic ones from season 2 which is my personal favorite. There is also a lot of character development in this episode, there's a lot of emotion and great acting across the episode and everyone did well both the original and future cast so the whole ensemble did some great work in this episode. There's a ton of references and I probably didn't catch them all.

Kristin Windell directed this week's episode and she didn't let down, instead giving us a great episode with lots of great scenes. There were only one thing that was lacking in this episode, it was the less focus of fight scenes which the show is known for. Instead we got some of the best drama of the season which I actually enjoyed a lot. It could have been better though with the fights being in one take like they usually are and not cut like they did here but other than that it was a great episode, that keeps us on our seat and gets us hyped for the next episode!

William is Gay
Anonnamus6 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Another episode that brings the nostalgia for the good ol' days when the team only worried about one big bad at a time and Arrow: The Annoying Class didn't exist. We get it. Mia is angry and has angsty attitude. William is gay, which is apparently his entire identity based on the number of times it comes up in an episode. Connor is the good son. Enough of the bad, let's get to the good.

Oliver gets a second chance to show his children who he really is and why he had to abandon them. His love for his kids is apparent in every decision he makes, and Amell's acting is really quite good...something I never had thought until recently. The reunion of Team Arrow was bittersweet and here is hoping they were successful in changing the future.

What I didn't like about this episode was the Deathstroke gang. No one will ever compare to Slade Wilson, and Grant Wilson was a pale comparison. Team Arrow and Offspring were able to work together and take them down pretty easily. I liked that William hid nothing of what happens in the future from Team Arrow. Granted, this is probably because this season is much shorter and they didn't have time to stretch that storyline out, but it was refreshing to hear someone tell the entire truth for once. Mia needs anger management. What she lacks in body weight she more than makes up for in attitude. I wanted to slit my own throat just to not hear her whine anymore, and given a chance I think Grant Wilson may have done the same to himself.

I am loving this season, and I am hoping for a few more reunions, Slade, Nyssa, and Anatoly mostly. Next episode is set in Russia, so let's hope I get to see at least one of them!

Why this show is ending?
NightmareOnElmStreetFan2 February 2020
Why every show I like or love is ending. I love Arrow to death! I been watching this show for 5 years. It started in 2012 and I watch it over the summer in 2015. Been a fan of Smallville I been watching horrible actor Justin Hartley playing Green Arrow and he sucked! Stephen Amell is Oliver Queen / Green Arrow the only one noone can play the character that well like Amell did.

The episode is about a trust, parenthood and a better future. Mia is stubborn like her father and not trusting her father. The team Arrow is after Deathstroke. In 2040 the team is after JJ, John Diggle's son. But in this time 2019 Grant Wilson is Deathstroke son of Slade Wilson. This Season is more science fiction than superhero show but really Team Arrow reminds me on Marvel Avengers Assemble - The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) I love both of the films to death they are my favorite superhero movies of all time. Arrow is great DC show even Kelly Hu was in this show. Season 8 suprise me all over. Why all the great shows are ending that I love. 24 (2001) with Keifer Sutherland end it, I loved that show. Gotham ended (Have not seen Season 5 completely I am planing to see the final season.) Prison Break was my all time favorite show and it end but they renewed for Season 5 which was not need it and they ruined it. My point is great shows are ending. I don't miss Smallville because Season 10 was a disappointment to me. Arrow is great.

The Flash incredible sucks why CW does not end that horrible show? Flash sucks to death! I hate Iris Candice Patton and Grant Gustin who plays Flash is awful. They are both awful. Arrow is a great show I love it. we could got another season.

The future is now
himanibhatia-8089514 December 2019
The season continues to be one of a kind (in a great way) loved seeing interactions and discords because of the future-past mixture. Mia is just an stubborn as oliver and connor is just as understanding as diggle despite of being adopted but because of good parenting. William is also coming clear and patching the past wounds with oliver. Rene is moving towards a better direction for himself and the glades for the future and for the same dinah is creating canary network for good. The concept of changing future is not new to us but as they say the route towards destination is far more interesting than the destination itself, but the real question is will Laurel betray Oliver??....

Another episode ruined by SJW politics
ed-268119 November 2019
The action was good, but the otherwise decent episode was ruined by inserting virtue signaling and leftist politics into it. Enough already! Viewers on both sides of the aisle are sick of it. I won't say where these things were in the episode, you'll see and hear it for yourself. Ruined a perfectly good series with this garbage.
