I Know What You Did Last Summer: "Written and executive produced by Sara Goodman, I Know What You Did Last Summer is based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel, which was also the basis of the iconic 1997 film. One year after the fatal car accident that haunted their graduation night, a group of teenagers find themselves bound together by a dark secret and stalked by a brutal killer. As they try to piece together who’s after them, they reveal the dark side of their seemingly perfect town—and themselves. Everyone is hiding something, and uncovering the wrong secret could be deadly. I Know What You Did Last Summer is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. Goodman writes and executive produces alongside Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, Erik Feig, Peter Guber, Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett, Craig William Macneill and Shay Hatten.

To celebrate the Digital HD release of Climate of the Hunter – out 23rd August from Bulldog Film Distribution – we’re giving away a digital voucher.
A cross between Euro-horror classic Daughters of Darkness and George Romero’s vampire tale Martin, with a rural lo-fi charm all of its own, Climate of the Hunter is directed by the highly prolific Oklahoma-based film-maker Mickey Reece. Dubbed the “Soderbergh of the sticks”, Reece has been honing his craft making films for over a decade, building up a loyal cult following who love his idiosyncratic flair, literate scripts and defiantly independent approach.

Strikingly filmed in saturated 70s-style colours, with “quality performances” (Kim Newman) from the cast (with Ben Hall recalling horror maestro John Carradine), a beautifully claustrophobic gothic atmosphere tinged with unexpected eroticism, Climate of the Hunter is a vampire film like no other,...

Writer/director Mickey Reece has flown under the radar somewhat here in the UK but finally his new film, Climate of the Hunter, along with a number of films from his back catalogue are getting a UK release from Bulldog Film Distribution. The film is set in the 70s and is an elegant mix of melodrama and, potentially, vampirism. Sort of like Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte meets Let’s Scare Jessica to Death.
Alma (Ginger Gilmartin; Fingerprints) and Elizabeth are sisters. They’re also totally different. Alma is a recently divorced artist who smokes lots of weed and has a dog who is a philosopher. Elizabeth is a Washington DC lawyer whose career takes the place of a family. They’re at Alma...

Every wacky detail of indie auteur Mickey Reece’s movie is a reminder of what fun even the oddest art films can be
If you’re an aficionado of Oklahoma’s DIY arts scene, you’ve likely heard of “the Flyover Fassbinder” Aka “the Backwoods Bergman” Aka musican-turned-film-maker, Mickey Reece. For everyone else: welcome to the party. This languid and lascivious vampire movie is the first of the indie auteur’s 37 no-budget films to make it much past the US south-west’s film festival circuit. Reece has modestly described his style as “people talking in rooms” – but, oh what people! His other films tell of demonically possessed nuns, cryogenically frozen country singers and Elvis Presley; Climate of the Hunter is a kind of 70s erotic horror pastiche about two middle-aged sisters, Alma (Ginger Gilmartin) and Elizabeth (Mary Buss), vying for the attentions of their house guest.

After giving us a unique twist on the vampire film in Climate of the Hunter, Mickey Reece and co-writer John Selvidge are back with Agnes, their take on demonic possession and evil doings in a convent. And while I knew this wasn’t going to be another nunsploitation film, I wasn’t expecting just what it delivers.
Sister Agnes is a young nun in an out-of-the-way convent of Saint Theresa. Her behaviour has been most troubling lately, foaming at the mouth, swearing at, and even attacking her fellow nuns. When Mother Superior (Mary Buss; Camp Cold Brook) asks for help she’s sent Father Donaghue an exorcist whom the diocese is looking for an excuse to excommunicate and his protege Ben.

In Agnes, a cynical priest and young novice approaching his vows are called to investigate rumors of demonic possession within a convent. What occurs within those walls will call forward temptations, doubt, and a true test of faith. Agnes is written and directed by Mickey Reece and stars Ben Hall (Climate of the Hunter), Jake Horowitz (The Vast of Night), and Hayley McFarland.
It is with the utmost disappointment that I report that Agnes is far from being the religious horror that audiences may be hoping for. If what you’re looking for is the expected beats of a demonic possession à la The Devils, you will be sorely disappointed. And confused. The trouble with Agnes extends beyond its failing to deliver a solid possession horror, but that it seems to have rolled two movies into one rather ineffectively.

Guess who's coming to dinner?
A remote cabin in the woods. A series of damp days and long nights of velvety darkness. Over elaborate candlelit dinners, two middle aged sisters on very different paths in life vie for the affections of an old friend who just might be a vampire. Mickey Reece’s gorgeously stylish tribute to Seventies cinema, Climate Of The Hunter, which stars Mary Buss, Ginger Gilmartin and Ben Hall, made a splash at last year’s Fantasia and is now getting a multi-platform online release. I caught up with the Oklahoma director to talk about the film and the impact of suddenly finding fame with his 27th feature.

Mickey Reece has been making films in his corner of Oklahoma for more than a decade (his incomplete IMDb page lists at least 37 director credits), but it wasn't until a few years ago that his work started getting noticed on the wider cult film circuit. With Strike, Dear Mistress, and Cure His Heart, and the recent Climate of the Hunter, we're all kicking ourselves that it's taken this long to discover one of the more unique voices in American film. But perhaps operating somewhat under the radar and on his own terms, making films with his friends and regional actors, is what gives Reece's films their distinction. The filmmaker sat down with critic, journalist, and ScreenAnarchy friend Simon Laperrière for a long chat via...

We have another installment of Horror Highlights, showing you the trailers for Sator and Climate of the Hunter, catching up with the composer of Hunter Hunter, and giving you a heads up on Cryptids joining forces with Dark Matter TV!
Watch the trailer for Sator: "Secluded in a desolate forest home to little more than the decaying remnants of the past, a broken family is further torn apart by a mysterious death. Adam, guided by a pervasive sense of dread, hunts for answers only to learn that they are not alone; an insidious presence by the name of Sator has been observing his family, subtly influencing all of them for years in an attempt to claim them.
The uniquely spectral horror-thriller Sator teases the line between fact and fiction as it’s core story, of a demon making contact with an intimate family, is inspired by director Jordan Graham’s own life.

Last weekend, the 2020 Nightstream Film Festival offered genre fans a ton of amazing online offerings to enjoy throughout its four-day festivities. Here’s a look at two of the films I had the opportunity to check out during Nightstream: Mandibles from Quentin Dupieux and Mickey Reece’s Climate of the Hunter.
Mandibles: While I haven’t had the opportunity to check out Deerskin just yet (which also began making the festival rounds), as a big fan of his work on the blissfully absurd Rubber, I had a sneaking suspicion that I was going to enjoy Quentin Dupieux’s Mandibles immensely, and it did not disappoint. Made in the same spirit of all those slapstick ’80s comedies of errors that so many of us grew up loving, Mandibles is a delightfully offbeat tale of two friends who come across a giant oversized fly and set out to domesticate it in...

There have been two very distinctive takes on the vampire movie at Fantasia 2020. Darkly witty Seventies pastiche Climate Of The Hunter has a lot to offer to older viewers. This one, by contrast, focuses on the teenagers we're used to seeing getting their necks bitten into in the genre, but has a very different tone from other works aimed at that age group.
Rowan (Lee Marshall) is a shy, awkward girl with a history of self harm. She can barely believe that the wealthy, popular Emily (Lauren Beatty) has invited her along on a trip to her family cabin in the woods. Neither can Emily's boyfriend, Brendan (Aris Tyros), who doesn't want to hurt Rowan's feelings but had clearly hoped for a quiet weekend away with the girl he loves. There's a hint of trouble in their relationship, which makes Rowan feel even more strongly that she's in...

Usually, the genre-heavy Fantasia International Film Festival is held annually in Montreal, but with things the way they are this year (terrible), the festival has gone virtual. This year, Chris Evangelista and Matt Donato are covering Fantasia for /Film, firing off dispatches featuring capsule reviews of the titles we’ve watched from the safety of our […]

The genre show goes on as Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival moves online for its 24th annual edition happening from August 20 to September 2, 2020. The best news for the host nation is that anyone in the country (all films save #Shakespearesshitstorm for the US will be geo-blocked to Canada) can experience the fun that only those able to travel to Montreal have in the past.
Each on-demand title will be available through their festival portal for $8 Cad and accessible during the course of the festival (with 30 hours to finish once you’ve pressed play). Attendance numbers will be capped similar to the capacity of the auditorium it would have screened at had an in-person event been possible and there will be select live screenings that must be watched during specified times as a communal experience.
Don’t think that the virtual nature of this installment will water down the product,...

If you’re a fan of the 70s and vampires, I’ve got a trailer here for you to watch for an indie horror thriller called Climate of the Hunter. The film is set in the 1970s and is centered around two sisters who are trying to win over the affection of a man who may or may not be a vampire.
As you’ll see, the film has a certain style and tone that gives it the same kind of vibe as some of the vampire horror films that were made in the 70s. It looks like a interesting and weird flick, but I’d watch it. Here’s the synopsis:
Two sisters, Alma & Elizabeth, along with a dog who's described as a "philosopher," have come to Alma's remote house to reconnect with Wesley after twenty years. Alma is recently divorced, Elizabeth is a workaholic in Washington, D.C.

"Mom, you're alone out here." "Then I better get prepared." Xyz Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Climate of the Hunter, the latest feature from prolific indie filmmaker Mickey Reece. Set in the late 1970s, two middle-aged sisters vie for the affection of a man from their past who may or may not be a vampire. This just premiered at Fantastic Fest this month, but doesn't have a release yet. Starring Ginger Gilmartin, Mary Buss, Ben Hall, Jacob Snovel, Laurie Cummings, Sheridan McMichael, and Danielle Evon Ploeger. Climate of the Hunter, according to Reece's local online newspaper The Oklahoman, is described as "a visual interpretation of The Jesus and Mary Chain's 1985 debut album, Psychocandy." This looks super low budget and just plain weird. Perhaps exactly the kind a film some of you are looking for. Have fun. Here's the first official trailer (+ ...
