So SWEET
elliep-4647524 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, y'all, this one was a winner:

-Nikki DeLoach was in a movie without Andrew Walker-- (not that he's not wonderful, but they needed to switch that pairing up imho)-- and the world kept rotating

-Michael Rady. What a guy.

-the film was ACTUALLY filmed where it was set (in the gorgeous Savannnah, GA!). Also, according to a lil Insta detective work (btw, Hallmark, I am willing and able to write/star/direct my own series about Insta investigations; Lacey Chabert has a series based on crime crossword puzzle solving and it only seems fair) this movie wrapped filming about a month ago?!? How does Hallmark do this? They're a well-oiled machine and I was so impressed, for real.

-Their children had personalities and weren't just plot devices (though I did think they had a bit of an unrealistic amount of time to get ready before school in the morning, but that is a very small critique). They seemed to have a genuine friendship and I was here for it!

  • Nikki's character's personality was very outgoing and fun which I can appreciate even though she's not my personal fave lead. I thought she did a great job and her delivery of the comments given on stage after the short film premiered-- deep cuts for sure. I wasn't crying; you were crying...

-There wasn't drummed up drama in the last 15 minutes or a misunderstanding-turned-jumping to the worst conclusion- moment trope. AHH! Hallmark plz do this always. Thank you. Thank you, thank you.

Such a winner!! A very well-worth a re-watch!! Well-done, everyone.

I loved this movie!

I love Nikki deloach and all of her films but this one is my favorites. I loved the chemistry between the lead characters. The dog was too cute and the kids did a great job.

I love all of Nikki Deloach films but this one is completely becoming one of my favorites. The chemistry between the two lead characters was fantastic. The dog was cute and the children were fantastic.

Southern Romance
atlasmb10 June 2021
The title of this film comes from the fact it revolves a rescue dog, which two families want to adopt. Single mother Kate Healy (Nikkie Deloach) and her daughter Sophia (Michaela Russell) set their sights on the rescue dog, Bruce, only to find that single dad Eric Smith (Michael Rady) and son Owen (Max Ivutin) also plan to adopt the adorable pooch.

A decision to temporarily co-adopt leads to many interactions between Kate, who likes to think outside the box, and Eric, who is usually satisfied by the status quo. The first forty-five minutes showed no chemistry between the two, as backgrounds were established.

Kate is a character that may not appear to everyone; she has a quirkiness that is Diane Keaton-like. But that personality is what really drives the story and gives it energy.

The two child actors would seem to have a promising career in acting. They were not just child placeholders in the story. They felt integral to the story development.

It was a nice change of pace that this Hallmark romance was shot in Savannah, GA.

beautiful
Kirpianuscus27 March 2022
I can admitt - it is just a beautiful film. Sure, using Hallmark recipe, proposing same familiar ingredients but, for acting, story, drawings, Power Point, dog and steps of romance, inspired humor and nice dialogues, having the gut to be more than you supose know about it.

It is a story about adulthood, well crafted, well told, well exploration of legends, sky, love and friendship. And admirable demonstration of kids importance for a fair story.

Short, just charming, good chemistry and touching characters and wise dose of realism.

I think I liked it
wagdiddy10 November 2019
Good acting, wonderful chemistry between the leads (although Nikki looked WAY older than the Love Interest. Can you do a better job with that, Hallmark?), and any story where an animal is rescued is tops. But honestly, we were all SO distracted by the little girl's protruding ears that I'm not really sure what happened plot-wise. There was one part where "Sophia" was sitting in the park and the sun was back-lighting her ear cartilage and they looked like two enormous red stoplights. Poor kid. I hope her parents spring for the ear pinning surgery soon. It's not that expensive and it's very safe. Other than that, I'm pretty sure it was another feel-good and wholesome Hallmark movie.

Nikki DeLoach drove me crazy!!!
smithduke28 April 2022
I would have loved this movie if Nikki DeLoach didn't overact! I found her so annoying!!! She was loud and brash. The other actors, even the kids were fine. The plot was very pleasant. Such a shame.

Fun to watch and a little bit different!
MIssM1924 March 2019
Kate is an animator, free-spirit woman and mom to Sophia. Eric has a type A personality who loves laminating things, following rules and is also a single dad to Owen. Both parents agree to adopt a dog, the same dog, so they co-foster the adorable Bruce.

You can imagine who this thing goes: they spend time together, become close, become friends and in the end start feeling things for the other. What made me rate this movie with a 9 is that they wisely chose not to include the typical cliches they always do. Plus, it was so much fun to watch! I actually laughed out loud more than once.

Sophia and Eric both have the same personality as well as Kate and Owen and I thought that was beautiful, the four of them coming together, sharing experiences while spending time with the dog: (Don't shop, adopt!)

The fact that Sophia's parents are separated, but still have a great friendship, and they even talk about new relationships, kudos for that!

Nikki Diloach was so much fun to watch and Michael Rady excels at playing this type A personality. Great chemistry. The children were adorable and did amazing!

I'm just so happy they avoided the cliches and came with new ideas for once (even the flash-forward), well done!

Good couple
Jackbv12312 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed Nikki Deloach and Michael Rady together. There were some little things in the story that weren't cliche like so many Hallmark Movies. For instance, they didn't have a big fight over "that's my dog", "no, that's my dog". And when the kids plot together to invite Eric to the screening, they get caught right up front. Little things.

Kate and Eric are both very likeable and so are the kids and the dog.

One thing was missing and that was a real conflict leading to a real climax. The conflict was lame and it didn't even seem like Kate believed it. So not only was the climax obvious, it wasn't even that much of a climax.

Still, I enjoyed it.

What a great movie!
laramia-garcia20 September 2019
Nikki DeLoach is one of my Hallmark favourites, but she had some movies that I didn't like so I didn't expect to like this one. As I was watching this movie, I came to love the characters, including Liam and Bianca. The officemates, the members of the PTA, the obedience school people and fur babies...

The kids are adorable, and of course, Bruce is a charmer.

The story may or may not be perfect, but it is enjoyable from start to finish.

I love Ms. DeLoach's chemistry with Mr. Rady, and the story, like what most of the reviewers here said, is not your usual Hallmark Rom-Com.

I would surely would love to see a wide screen version of this one with the same cast. Is that even possible?

Well, if it isn't I hope more people would get to see this made for TV movie. I think even guys would like this one. It is very relatable, and the actors are very convincing.

Anyway, these are just my feelings. I do not know if they would be helpful or not, but I just wanted to share how I felt after watching this movie.

Thanks for your time.

Dog is underused as usual
SunnyDaise28 May 2021
Fun acting, but there's nothing special about this HM movie. As is often the case, the writers underuse the dog, pretty much relegating him as a plot. They need to add personality to animals more and make them characters rather than props, otherwise it's nothing like having a canine companion in real life. This movie is really more about school and work, so they should have focused on those, rather than cramming the dog in too and not really exploring anything properly.

Great - Funny, Touching and Sincere. Leader of the Pack !
Lew77723 May 2019
The chemistry works perfectly between the always-good Nikki Deloach as a top animator, and Michael Rady ,who was the beating heart of the film, as an overly-prissy administrator who'd lost his wife and was still holding onto his grief. The dog-sharing, the kids, the scenery in Savannah was all great. Way better than your typical Hallmark fayre !

Delightful story and great acting from all the cast
ronalamont-9147213 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
MissM19 says it all!! I couldn't agree more. I kept putting off watching this one as I feared it would be very cliched but how wrong could I have been. It was one of the better Hallmark movies without any of the cliches!! Michael Rady is such a good actor it's always a delight to watch the films he's in but this one bounced along believably with great acting from everyone. The children seemed genuinely friends and the positive energy surrounding everyone was refreshing. It was also enjoyable to see the ex-husband so comfortable with the relationship and Rady's girlfriend was a happy, well-rounded character too. The premise of sharing the fostering of the dog seemed a little ridiculous and an obvious ploy to bring them together but the way it unfolded made the movie really enjoyable to watch.

Could watch over & over
ISmellSnow31 August 2020
Hallmark, give us more Michael and Nikki! These two work great together and fans would love to see them more. I don't typically enjoy the dog themed movies but this one works. Also, is it just me or are movies better when "ex's" are pals instead of rivals? I love that her ex husband was so supportive of her. Great movie, I would love a sequel!

This movie would have been better with another actress. I like Rady, he's great and down to earth but Nikki's acting (she forces it to much). She seems older then her male partners.

This is the Citizen Kane of love stories involving a dog
jdnjtx5 April 2019
Nikki Deloach (Nikki) delivers once again in this "barktastic" love story. The on screen chemistry between her and Michael Rady was reminiscent of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina and Count Vronsky. You couldn't help but root for Nikki, the supremely talented cartoonist and erstwhile scorned lover, to find the true love she so deserves. Michaela Russell and Max Ivutin play the adorable children Sophia and Owen, whose love for the same dog is the catalyst for their parents to find love in each other. Set against the stunning backdrop of Savannah, "Love to the Rescue" will melt the heart of even the most steely Hallmark connoisseur. On top of the impeccable script, the casting and direction of the extras was spot on, with the performances in the café, office, and theater scenes being exceptional. Director Steven Monroe elevated his game to the level of Mervyn LeRoy's "Quo Vadis" or DeMille's "The Ten Commandments" with a stunning aesthetic that is sure to remain a benchmark for decades to come. Bravo, Hallmark!

Great Chemistry
amelia-107473 June 2019
Finally Hallmark has made a Rom Com worthy of the Big Screen. I love Nikki DeLoach anyway but she and Michael Rady hit one out of the park. This was her best movie yet. Michael Rady was excellent as well. This was only his 2nd Hallmark movie and he is a cut above. Great dialogue and direction. The Chemistry between the cast was amazing. Something often lacking in a hallmark movie. The status quo Hallmark movies are very repetitive. Usually the conflict of the romance is rather Threes Company-esque where something is overheard or witnessed and misinterpreted to finally in the end be explained away and every body lives Happy ever after. Such is not the case with Love To The Rescue. Hallmark keeps going to CCB for star power but move over, Nikki Deloach is raising the bar.

Started off great, but kind of fizzled.
rebekahrox8 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This one started out great. I don't remember Nikki Deloach being such a good comedienne. She was hilarious in some of the scenes. Michael Rady was a great foil for her, and the chemistry was good. Nikki played a free spirit type animator who has committed to staying away from romantic entanglements for the sake of her very serious daughter. Her daughter wants a dog and Nikki agrees because she feels her daughter needs to loosen up a little and a dog will help. Rady plays a government executive who is very anal retentive and buttoned up and also president of the PTA. Rady's son is a bit of a dreamer and loves super heroes. To make a long story short, the two pairs decide to share a rescue dog which brings them together. They are real opposites and of course they clash and then attract. It was funny that Nikki's daughter related to Rady more than her mother, and Rady's son was closer in personality and interests to Nikki. I like that Nikkis ex-husband was a good dad and good friend to her, and Rady's girlfriend was a nice woman who realized first that they weren't a good match. Unfortunately all of the laughs and romantic tension were on the front end of the movie. After the two became friends, everything kind of fizzled out. Still, it was still good enough to win an *8* from me.

Beautiful City.
thbryn17 February 2020
The plot wasn't bad though I have to say I don't care much for the animal themed stories. What a backdrop though --for the good acting--in the city of Savannah. And And from what I read it was shot in January! It didn't look like winter at all. As for the teen girl with the prominent ears. Wowza.

One of the Best Hallmark Movies
beth62812 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a dog owner and dog lover. So, any movie that has a dog always gets high ratings from me. But, this movie has one of the lowest levels of "suspend your sense of disbelief" of any Hallmark movie I've seen. I like that it shows a positive actual friendship between Kate and her ex-husband as they co-parent their daughter. Of course, you can see where things are going pretty much from the beginning. But, this is some of the most realistic acting from all of the actors in any Hallmark movie. Nikki Deloach is one of the actresses whose Hallmark movies I always watch. But, she seems very funny in this one. There were more laugh out loud moments in this movie for me than I typically get in a Hallmark movie. I also appreciated that the drama was more realistic. In most Hallmark movies, there is a "poor timing" problem that arises near the end. There's none of the stereotypical misunderstandings like where the girl is talking to the ex-boyfriend and saying goodbye and the new guy sees it and thinks the girl and the ex are getting back together. None of that! An actual adult decision is made for actual reasons to create the drama. I appreciated that.

Wanted to like it
bigsis_je25 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to like it, and I wanted the dog's presence to be more prominent in the story. The dog idea seemed more like a plot tool - and a forced one at that. The premise of sharing custody of a shelter dog is very unrealistic. Hallmark has had multitudes of characters fight over dogs and Christmas trees, and somehow they're always able to choose - except this one time?!

I don't enjoy watching Nikki DeLoach. She doesn't come across as natural or Hallmark-cute to me. Also, as others have commented, she always appears older than the male leads. But I went ahead with watching the movie because I wanted to see how the dog story would go.

I liked the male lead. He's handsome, and his character was believable.

I felt like there were too many times when the script had to explicitly describe the characters' personalities to the audience. I think their personalities could have been developed more onscreen/visually. Or maybe if the actors had been more suited to their roles, it would have been more obvious to the audience.

And, as a word enthusiast, there was one line (one missed opportunity for a good line) that completely gave away how poorly this script was written. At the end, the male lead said, "Do you mean that dinner (or a first date) wouldn't be the end of the world?" And she says, "In fact, it would be...nice." *face palm* Why didn't she say, "it would be a beginning"?! What a missed opportunity! Especially considering the final scene that shows they did get married, so that moment after the awards show WAS the beginning of the rest of their lives!

Just the scenery of Savannah GA is worth watching!
YabbaDabbaDabba29 March 2020
Historic Savannah GA is a fantabulous backdrop for this cute movie. Founded in 1733, it holds a lot of Southern charm, and the acting "ain't bad either."
