Fun pilot episode

Pilot episodes are complicated. You have a limited amount of time to introduce the main characters and the main plot. The pilot of "Why Women Kill" did just that in true Mark Cherry form. We have three stories in three eras all taking place with women living in the same house. It's a intriguing idea to begin with.

Then you add some amazing actresses.Ginnifer Goodwin has the perfect innocent charm to play Beth Ann a 60s housewife married to a cheating husband who is determined to save her marriage at any cost. Lucy Lui is a treasure playing 90 socialite Simone on her third marriage that is about to disintegrate when she discovers he is gay but she finds solice in her young and barely legal neighbor Tommy. Finally in the current era there is millennial feminist lawyer Taylor married to an out of work writer who she has an open marriage with. When she brings one of her lovers home her husband is first annoyed but the woman is the female stereotype that Taylor isn't which spells trouble for the marriage.

The pilot is fun and dark and already twisted. If you liked Desperate Housewives and can afford All Access I would give this a shot.

This colourful and campy dark comedy pilot from Marc Cherry (formerly of Desperate Housewives fame) held my attention but only because I mistakenly thought it might be a "different plot an episode" type anthology. It had a solid cast who seemed to be having fun but ultimately the intrusively old fashioned music and the goofily unbalanced melodrama of it all was far too sickly for me to go for the whole series. I prefer my stylised trash with a hefty dollop of weird - and hours of just couples squabbling is far too mundane for me.
