Much better than Oak Island
DiViSuCa1810 April 2022
Don't get me wrong, I love Oak Island. But for the last 2-3 years they've found close to nothing, and all the air time is taken up by their "more-than-annoying" narrator. I'm this show, they find stuff, there are legitimate sources and discoveries. They are bad actors, which is amazing! Because it makes it possible to tell how real it is. The acting is kept to an extraordinary minimal and even if what they find doesn't help them, at least they found something! The mystery part of it keeps me on the edge of my seat, and the historical part makes me want to learn more about WWII.

Over all, desperately hoping for a 3rd season! Love this show so much!!

Very Silly Show Based On A Silly Premise!
collectorofsorts19 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Everything about this series is silly or ridiculous. That being said, it's entertaining. A few of the silly things: 1)They based the entire search so far on wild stories that 'Grandpa' tells them. Grandpa is an old guy who claims to be a witness to everything they ask him about. Oddly enough, he would have been a very very young child when this all happened. He supposedly owned a pack animal that the Japanese army used at night. Sure, they asked the locals "can we borrow this a few nights a week", right? And, he watched another local local get his head chopped off by them and still played around them and heard what they were saying. Remember, THE JAPANESE SOLDIERS SPOKE JAPANESE. I'm pretty sure a pre-teen Filipino boy was fluent in the Japanese language. On to the search. They find a previously dug tunnel and put a video camera down it. They find a broken bottle at the bottom. "That's Amazing! It must be a broken poison bottle. The Japanese army often rigged poison bottles to kill treasure hunters. OR, maybe one of the previous treasure hunters tossed an empty pop bottle down the hole. Basically, we have an elderly local who's become a local legend by telling foreigners wild stories. And, realistically, after 5 minutes of online research. The treasure was found and stolen by a former ruling family there (The Marcos regime). And, it was worth billions. It's been disclosed in court records there. Research shows they stole between $5-10 Billions Dollars and most of it was hidden in overseas banks and never recovered. I'll keep watching though. I'm easily entertained.

Great show!
cgparas27 March 2019
If it weren't for the history channel, we wouldn't have any opportunities as viewers to be part of the missions to find lost treasure, unless of course you're a treasure hunter, which most of us are not. So, thank you History channel, the only channel to go go above and beyond on trying to locate these artifacts of history.

Like any treasure hunt, there's never a garauntee that the 'lost' treasure will be found. However; the possibility in this location obviously exists and John and his crew are doing a fantastic job trying to use their experience with engraved markers, caves, and landmarks like the pyramid rock to find this treasure. They must be real close.

Such nonsense and grown men playing let's pretend
ronmanager15 March 2020
There is about 20 minutes of actual 'factual' information in the entire series. The rest is bullsh**ters playing make believe with every bit of rock they find. Like they want it to be like Indiana Jones with water traps, cyanide bombs and the like but just made up. "I don't want to dig here because I've got a bad feeling about it...." Utter nonsense.

It's good, but has a FEW boring parts.
rdoubleoc24 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like they build suspense when they know the outcome is null and dull. However, if what they actually found is in fact an unsearched Yamashita treasure cache, I don't see how anyone could rate this show less than a 9.

I really don't like the cliffhanger at the end of the season, but if they actually found what they were looking for, the wait is worth it. If what they found isn't what they're looking for, well, then they really shouldn't have taken us on for such a long ride. If they found what they're looking for, this show is nothing short of incredible, and will be right up there with the other great treasure shows, like Cooper's Treasure and Oak Island. We'll see!

More disappointing hype from History Channel
burtsilverado1 February 2020
Boring, Boring, Boring!!! To enjoy driving a Ferrari, it is NOT necessary to begin by touring the quarry from where the metal was mined to cast the engine block! If there is any validity at all to Yamashita's treasure, then start us from a point of interest, not an entire season of a bunch of ppl with their thumbs up! The History Channel has once again demonstrated that they have absolutely NO RESPECT for their viewers time!

Hope to see a third season!
SBenoit518 October 2020
I removed 2 stars because the narrative repeats over an over the previous content and it becomes annoying. The 8 stars is for the nice filming, the seriousness of the team, and for asking the right questions and taking the right decisions most of the time. The are professionals and you can feel it. It takes guts to search for treasures in a place like that. They put their lives at risk.

Really?
jameskennedy-2459616 May 2019
So in a 1 hour episode they spend the first 20 minutes recapping what happened in the last episode. Then we have 25 more minutes of them discussing amongst themselves what to do next all the while fumbling over each other. Then they show a tunnel and that's it. 9 episodes to get to here. Really? I recommend that they hire professional archeologists to dig this site. Even Josh Gates can do a better job LOL.

Interesting
scotthomeagent2 January 2021
I have been enjoying the show. Second season cast did not seem as sharp as first. Don't know what happened unless they understandably got scared.

This is the kind of show that appeals to guys. There is military, treasure, cool new toys for a treasure hunt.

It gets tiresome every episode they feel they need to review several times for new watchers perhaps. It gets old and cuts into new episode viewing time. If new watcher are interested let them go back and binge watch until they are current. You don't have to bring everyone current every episode.

Uggg, another fake show from the 'History' Channel
hussey27 March 2019
I personally find this show completely unbelievable. The 'cast' appear to be very amateur actors, with lines fed to them ahead of time. It seems shows like this are there just to generate advertising dollars, by using tidbits of actual historical fact, with loads of 'fillers' to make their show seem feasible. Well, we've seen so many of these now, we aren't falling for it anymore. My DVR has more available space for recording now, since this has been removed.

I have to go now. I found three scratched rocks in a field, and I think a confederate-era Sasquatch is buried in the center of the triangulation with Hitlers looted treasure. Or Templar Treasure. Or Roman, Pirate, Japanese, Chinese, Viking, or could it be..... Aliens? And of course the answer is Yes!.

2-stars, only because I'm sure there were a lot of mosquitoes onsite.

Informative and Entertaining!
mfeaglerock23 April 2019
I rate this show a TEN!

This TV show tells a lot about World War II that a lot of people are starting to forget. My grandfather was a US Army intelligence officer during World War II in the Pacific Theater and I remember him telling us a lot of good things about the Philippines and it's people. He brought the whole family there years and years ago when I was still in grade school.

We spent a few days in Makati but mostly in Northern Luzon where my grandfather met with his former comrades. He and his comrades spent a lot of time in the mountains while the rest of the family stayed in the city enjoying the scenery and the people. Yes! Those people are great!

I know that this is just a TV show but I can relate to the show's story and get me hooked to see what's next.

I like Peter and John. They seem to know what they are doing but keeps me thinking as they seldom say definite statements. It's more of a question than a matter of fact.

I also like their Military Medic Manny. He seemed cautious but appears to know what he is doing. It reminded me of my grandfather's Filipino comrades, they were silent most of the time but dependable when the need arise. My grandfather told me that his Filipino comrades saved his life a number of times. I also like Jeremy, he seems pretty strong and jolly. I also like Bingo. He seems intelligent. He looks Filipino but perhaps grew up here in the States.

All in all, I highly recommend this show. No need to take the show too seriously. Just a TV show to watch every Tuesday night with a cold beer in hand. Namaste!

Waste of time and natural resources
dashcamjournalsph13 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Straight to the point, they found the lost tunnel in the middle of a dragon fruit farm. Meaning the tunnel is not a lost tunnel because locals already explored that tunnel because it is right in the middle of a dragon fruit plantation. I give this 2 stars because the editing made me believe they are going to find something we didn't already know. what a waste of time.

Would have been global news!
chrissteavenson22 August 2021
Watched only the finale episode 2021, filmed 2019. Similar to another time waster about old English galleons carrying treasure. Again had they discovered anything worthwhile you would have heard about it long before these TV series are broadcast.

Really exciting to watch!!!
treasuresoftheworld21 September 2023
If you have ever lived outside of USA then you would really appreciate this show and the effort they made to produce this. Can you even imagine how they have to negotiate with the local and government cartels. I shutter when I think of the large sums of money they pay to them just to film this. And that is not all....they are all risking their lives looking for this treasure. If they find it....who will take it from them? Because they will never let them keep it. It's very exciting to watch and highly entertaining!!! 10 Stars all the way. I also am hoping there will be at least 10 more seasons of this show.

A complete waste of time.
chinny-19823 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The idea is a great one, looking for lost treasure! The show is based around historical facts and does well to reel you in early on, I watched on loosely but was soon hooked on finding out whether or not they'll find a way into the mountain that they're certain contains treasure. Over the first few episodes you feel the frustration of the crew as they hit dead end after dead end looking for entrances and tunnels but getting nowhere, although as series one goes on you quickly pick up the feeling that none of them really know what they're doing or what they're talking about, even their expert who claims to have decades of experience has a 'winging it' air about him. Sadly any frustrations they seem to have through the series become dwarfed by your frustration as in the dying minutes of the end of the last episode (series 1, ep 7) the crew find an entrance and the credits roll - you're shown no investigation, no hunt now they're clearly on the right path, nothing.

Everything that's spread out over the seven episodes could have been done just as respectfully and informatively over two or three and the last episode is a bigger anticlimax than a Christmas if nobody turned up.

Despite all the recapping in each episode and it big repetitive in places I'd have given it 6 or 7 stars as it's been an interesting way to pass the time, but it all builds up to such an anticlimactic ending that the whole series feels like a huge waste of time.

Terribly annoying

Warning: Spoilers
From episode this show could have been wrapped up in 4 episodes if they didn't spend so long showing recaps. The most exciting part of the whole show was the hurricane. Long, drawn-out American rubbish.

Mindless nonsense
michel1655517 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It is all scripted, fake and made with.actors. They don't care or mind if there is a treasure or not. It is all about the editing afterwards to make it "exiting". History.channel only cares for advertisement dollars. Ultimatlley History Channel will die due to thiw nonsense programs. But they son't even care for that too. They made there money and their off. Everybody wins. That is what "History" channel is about.

An exercise in Futility with pretend treasure.
slester-759486 May 2020
The premise of this show is quite comical actually. Any person with any understanding of WWII history knows that this treasure is long gone. It was found by the United States CIA within a couple weeks of the Japanese surrender in Luzon Phillipines. I am curious as to how many millions or billions in gold and gems were actually recovered however this touchy subject has been a very well kept secret by our government. If this group is really under the belief that they will find great treasure they are foolish. i suspect that they are only there to try and find a few scraps. I am watching only to see if they are able to uncover the truth that the US CIA recovered the treasure many decades ago which created incredible wealth for our country at the expense of all the countries who had it stolen by the Japanese during WWII. It does amaze me that our CIA has been able to hide this billion dollar boost to our country.

It's no Oak Island. Im a big fan of hunting hitler and other history channel reality shows but this one is bad.

The team appears to be retired construction workers who have no clue of the history or geography this show focuses on. The show is full of whatifisms and stretch armstronging likelihood's.

I have to give it one star just because it is full of speculation and is base on smoke and mirrors.

You would struggle to find more tosh digging around in a sewer. Typical of a "factual" show aimed at Americans, they seem determined to insult their viewers intelligence.

Worse than Oak Island for recaps. Probably <10 minutes in each programme that's worth watching. I'll just wait and have a look at the last episode of any more series.

poopdeloop2 May 2021
The entire show is very obviously scripted. They go back and forth between 3-4 "sites" looking at BS carvings on random but very obvious rock faces that look very deliberately put there for tv. The best part is they never find anything 😂 why even make the show? Complete waste of time to watch as a viewer.
