Let's get one anomaly over and done with immediately. Carlito (played admirably by Carlito Tirira Meshi) does not have a secret. The whole village of Palma Real knows that he is "different" and they resent it. That he has a lover downstream might be unknown to them, but not his sexual orientation.
One wonders about the grafting of Christian mores on an indigenous population. Would he have had to leave in the olden days? Would there even have been a concept for his proclivities?
Carlito Meshi carries his part wonderfully from the pained look on his face hearing the daily insults, to his concentration on taking the boat and to his joy at meeting his friend.
One wonders how a couple of naive jungle boys will fare in the big city they are presumably headed for.
A really good little short that was presumably polished by Herzog. Recommended.
