The series continues to diminish in quality.
6 March 1999
Before I start, I'll say that TCM 2 is banned in Australia. I have managed to get hold of it and I can sincerely say that the sad effort that is part 4 deserves to be banned a whole lot more than sequel no. 1 not only because it is a terribly stupid and bad movie but because the cruelty to women is worse than TCM 2, and that's what got it banned! I believe the censors may be more demented than our friend Leatherface, who in this installment is laughable! Take us back to the good, relatively bigger budget effects of the 2nd one please? And if another TCM movie is made, keep Kim Henkel away from it and bring back the master - Tobe Hooper.

Unfortunate
5 March 1999
This amazingly dull sequel doesn't compare with the excellent original or the mediocre 2nd or 4th installments, it's just a pile of uninspired trash. I think they should allow someone else to write a script for a Chucky movie and give Don Mancini a break - he seems to run out of ideas very quickly. I'd miss this one, although if you enjoyed the others in the series you may as well see it if you're a completist as I am.

Fever (1991 TV Movie)
Very slow and boring thriller.
28 November 1998
Just about every actor in here seems kinda bored with the whole thing, and you probably will be about 20 minutes into it. It's pretty much one to miss.

In one word - "Confronting"
12 November 1998
This cop goes through everything you don't really want to even know exists within a period of 3 or so days. The movie is offensive, but its life - it happens everyday, in every country. It's striking and powerful, and I'd almost go so far and say that it represents the 90's. See it if you think you can handle it.

A departure from the first 3 (read - not as good).
6 November 1998
Definitely a completely different film to the previous ones, delivering a different kind of Freddy - one that kills in a creative fashion after playing with his victims for a little while. It makes him seem more cruel, and is quite hard to sit back and watch the cruelty.

I disliked the absence of Patricia Arquette and Heather Langenkamp, since they were the life of the series up until now. The acting isn't crash hot from the newbies, but they try hard.

Overall, I think the series has gone too far at this point, and is starting to get quite boring. Quit now, or perhaps bring back the legendary Wes Craven, which thank god someone eventually did about 6 years later.

Perhaps the worst in the series.
6 November 1998
OK, so it was less corny than 4-6, but it was much worse than 1,3 and 7. When Wes Craven came back to write part 3, he did the right thing by ignoring the fact that this disgrace was ever written.

The acting is quite horrid, and I didn't really tend to care whether the characters died or not.

My advice to people who haven't seen any of the "Nightmare" series is to skip this tragedy and go straight to the Craven written Part 3.

3 styles of horror
31 October 1998
I like the way this John Carpenter hosted collection of horror stories differs in style. I'll do a brief analysis of each.

No. 1 - this is your basic "Scream" style horror, using people that jump out and various noises to scare. A small amount of psychological horror involved.

No. 2 - this style is comedy horror with a twist at the end, definitely in the vein of "Tales From the Crypt".

No. 3. This is true horror in my opinion. A Psychological brain screwer. Confusing and VERY scary. This is the best of the 3. The scariness lasts here kiddies.

Overall, its a nice collection, worth it for the final story.

Very boring.
28 October 1998
Going by the good words of my friends, I hired this movie, hoping that it would at least equal the laughs of the similar movie, "House Party", but I was very disappointed, and very bored.

Falling asleep while watching a movie is never a good sign. I don't know whether this didn't appeal to me because I don't live in "da hood", or if I'm not black, but it's probably one of the two.

It tries to spoof a few movies, only coming up with a couple of laughs, but in the long run it fails miserably. Miss it.

Very stupid, but very funny.
28 October 1998
Why have a musical about a party of miners on an expedition who are forced to eat each other when they run out of food in the Rocky Mountains? God knows, but it turns out to be a hilarious string of stupidity and joyous singing, and of course cannibalism. Of course.

The singing seems quite unnecessary at times, but take it away and the movie would be boring. In a sense.

Well, if you enjoy cannibalism and singing, you can't go wrong here - but if you don't have a sense for stupid humor and cannibalism, skip it.

Amazing effects - great acting - good story.
19 October 1998
Quite an awesome movie for '88, with cartoon characters integrated with live actors for the first, and possibly last time. Disney pulled it off very well, the actors blended in well and it all seems to work nicely. I enjoyed it a lot, but it depends on taste. It does go a few ways - as in at one stage it tries to be a kids comedy movie while other parts appeal to adults. Either way I enjoyed it. (Oh, and yes, if you freeze frame it just as you see Jessica spinning out of the toon taxi...)

Killing Spree (1987)

Oh my god.
26 September 1998
Is this supposed to be serious? I hope not. This is one of the most pathetically hilarious movies I've ever seen. Given that I picked it up for a buck on the "Bad movies" shelf, it sure lives up to its spot in the shop. What can I say, the gore effects are spattered (pun-intended) all over the place, some looking quite real, some looking like a teddy bear that's had an accident with a bottle of tomato sauce. The music is some of the most horrible I've heard, the acting is one of the most amusing elements... must I continue? Don't bother unless you've seen every other pathetic horror movie in the shop and this is all that's left.

The Panel (1998–2007)
One of the funniest, most clever "Talk" shows in history
25 September 1998
On Wednesday night, a lot of people tune in for this little beauty of a show. A bunch of people sitting around a desk talking about the weeks news around them - No big deal, but the people on this show make it worth it. Witty comments fly, jokes get thrown from end of the desk to another... so on. Probably the most intellectually interesting shows on Australian TV.

South Park (1997– )
Complete genius - one of the funniest shows ever created
22 September 1998
Trey Parker and Matt Stone must be rolling in money now - and they deserve to be. This is one of the greatest television creations in the past decade. The animation is terrible, but it sets the mood for what is probably the most sexually crude cartoon allowed on TV. The characters are all classic, especially the Beavis and Butthead parodies - Terrance and Phillip. Most of the jokes "shock" you into laughing, but it still makes you laugh and enjoy yourself doesn't it? Once you've seen it, you'll tune in forever...

If you can stomach Manson's performance, you'll enjoy it.
21 September 1998
Drug use, swearing, self-mutilation, Manson in black leather... it's all here. If it's what you want, you'll like it - if you don't, you're in for a nightmare. From the beginning entourage of Christians bagging Manson and his "Satan-worshipping" to the end "throwing-up" sequences, there's enough to make anyone feel at least a little sqeamish. Manson's musical brilliance shines on stage though, and makes the aforementioned sickness worth sitting through.

The Mask (1994)
Is that Jim Carrey's face or just special effects?
21 September 1998
Based on the original, highly violent comic, The Mask bursts on to the screen with dazzling special effects and Jim Carrey's face. The story of the comic book has changed slightly, making the evil mask turn loser Stanley Ipkiss into a hero, rather than a cop killing psycho. I believe in among all the special effects, most males will see this movie for the co-star Cameron Diaz. Jim Carrey definitely suits the role, and so does his dog Milo, who steals the spotlight in some places. If you're looking for a laugh, you may as well pick this up.

Candyman (1992)
An extremely poor excuse for a horror movie
21 September 1998
I'll give it that its quite a freaky concept, standing in front of a mirror and saying three certain words only to be murdered by a man with a hook for a hand... but the way this movie pulls it off is just terrible. The movie is more funny than scary, and more gross than terrifying. Its just a bunch of shoddy gore effects chucked on with some bad acting, a terrible script and nonsensical ending. To summarise in one word - DON'T SEE IT.

Less corny than you'd expect...
21 September 1998
This movie was released amidst the big "Ninja Turtle craze", when everyone under the age of 12 was either watching the cartoons or playing with the action figures, and everyone who was over 13 despised these action heroes. The live action movie gave the Turtles a whole different face, a darker, more brooding one, which was present in the comic books. It seems a bit too violent to be a children's movie, so it does appeal to older people somewhat. If you hate these turtles, give it a miss, but if you're out for something like this, see it.

Predator 2 (1990)
An adequate sequel
21 September 1998
Obviously not as good as the first one, but still has its moments. The action is virtually non-stop, along with the amazing effects retained from the first film. There are lots of jumps and scares along the way, along with a lot more gore. Enjoyable throughout, it is a worthy sequel to the original and warrants a visit to see the upcoming Predator 3.

Wing Commander: Prophecy (1997 Video Game)
9/10
Above average for an interactive movie.
13 September 1998
Origin, the creators of the Wing Commander series have been knowin for putting a large effort into their movie sequences and in this case, the work definitley pays off. The game is quite awesome, and the acting quality is basically what I'd like to call "Video game oscar winning".

For fans of the original Manga series.
13 September 1998
If you have already seen the legendary "Guyver" manga (Japanese animation) series and enjoyed them, you are bound to love the second outing in the live action version of the cartoon. The suits and make-up are quite brilliant, but the icing on the cake is the Guyver itself - its exactly the way I pictured it to be when I saw the cartoons. The movie isn't for everyone, the storyline may seem weak on the outside, but if you pay close attention to it, it is quite well thought out. The acting is corny, but come on, is there anyone who would see a movie that even has "spectacular martial arts action" in the tagline for its acting? If you are considering seeing this, I believe it would be a better idea to hire the original 1-12 manga series and the first live-action movie, The Guyver (aka Mutronics).

A difficult movie to watch, but it's worth it.
13 September 1998
I sat down to watch this unaware what I was in for. I thought to myself, "OK , puppets. This should be highly amusing." As the movie got started I was sort of shocked but I was laughing my head off! This movie has IT ALL - a Walrus cheating on a Hippo with a cat; A heroin addicted frog; a rat that makes porn movies in the basement; a manic depressant elephant and a supposedly AIDS infected rabbit! How is THAT for variety? Well, its quite hard to watch all these things in one measly hour and half, but it pays off.

Predator (1987)
An sci-fi action flick with a special feel to it.
13 September 1998
I'm not sure what it is, but this tale of an alien hunter has a special something that makes it highly enjoyable. The actors have been cast well, and the effects are magnificent, there's a certain tensity about it and it keeps interest throughout. If you haven't seen it before, my suggestion is to run down to the video shop and grab a copy.
