Majestic
11 December 2001
I just saw a preview of the film last night (10/12/01) in Iceland, and this movie left me breathless. Perfect cast, I was slightly apprehensive about Ian McKellen as Gandalf, but he's astounding.. the greatest of them all. The sets, the wizadry, the ORCS!!! (incredible!!), the whole film is so majestic..

Peter Jackson is the right guy to successfully accomplish this project and there is no doubt in my mind that we are in safe hands for the upcoming two sequels.

Coens have outdone themselves
5 March 2001
I didn't expect it to happen when I went to see this movie but the Coen brothers have really outdone themselves... My favourite Coens feature until now was Raizing Arizona but I think this one has replaced it. You always waited anxiously to see what would happen next and usually it took you by surprise. A fact that is sadly not common when you go to the movies nowadays. George Clooney was excellent as John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson. This was a Coens masterpiece and they are truly legendary filmmakers. And that song really catches on....

Milla was simply breathtaking as Joan
31 December 1999
Some movies would probably try to make a more divine spirit out of Joan but at least Besson examines all possibilities as regards to what inspired her. I think it was as honest a film you could make about Joan. Her quest for revenge combined with tremendous belief in the forces above that ignited her fire. Through Dustin Hoffman the viewer can question her motives and get her response. And what a performance! Milla was simply breathtaking as Joan.

Fight Club (1999)
A challenge for sight and all senses
15 November 1999
This film was certainly a challenge for sight and indeed all senses. And what a challenge to behold. David Fincher has created far and away the best movie of 1999. I did not like the philosophy of life mumble jumble of the Matrix, it sounded only as empty words but this film really spoke to me on a philosophic level. You felt every word of every sentence, every gesture. Pitt is outstanding, so is Edward Norton and Meat Loaf is a real surprise as the well endowed Robert Paulsen. I was totally blown away by the Fight Club and it has in no uncertain terms reminded me why I love going to the movies!

Moonshine Highway (1996 TV Movie)

A very stylish movie
16 January 1999
I sat down and turned on the tube as this TV movie was about to begin. I knew nothing about this film but as the first few scenes went by it was clear that there was a talented filmmaker at work. I know nothing what so ever about Mr. Armstrong, the director, but that is bound to change. The film kind of reminded me of Roberto Rodriguez's work, in its love of old rock'n roll, car chases and cool characters that talk cool. But by saying that I am not taking anything away from Mr. Armstrong's highly stylised originality. It would be and probably will be interesting to see what Mr. Armstrong could do if given a higher budget and a bigger platform on which he can display his considerable talent.
