Sheer Brilliance...
15 January 1999
How often have you watched the best show on T.V (The Simpsons for the few dim-witted), and wondered to yourself "I wonder what it's like to be a Simpson and live in Springfield."?

Well, okay..you may never have even dreamed about going there due to Burns' Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and having to go to Springfield Elementary where you'll receive a severe wedgie from Dolph, Kearney and Jimbo. But let's presume you really want to see what life is like being a Simpson. Thanks to Mr Matt Groening and the entire team of the show along with computer know-alls and Virgin Interactive you can now experience Springfield life. You'll be able to be as nosy as you want while rummaging through the Simpsons' house and also the Flandereseses' house (which is really funny, check out their record collection!). You can make a Flamin' Moe (or should that be a Flamin' Homer!?) at the welcoming Moe's Tavern. You can check out the Krustylo Studios and watch numerous Itchy & Scratchy shows. Ever wanted to play those great games that Bart plays at Noiseland Arcade? Well now you can play such gems as "Larry the Looter". There's also tons of hidden games including Apoom in the Kwik-E-Mart! You can also see what complaints Abe "Grampa" Simpson is typing up on his typewriter when you mosey on down to Springfield Retiremaent Castle.

Anyhoo, I shall not give much more away.

By now you're probably thinking "Besides from being able to be as nosey as hell, is there an aim to the game". Well yes, the thing is, while you're searching through the town and the places that you are allowed to go into, you have to try and find 72 residents of spingfield cards. So you truly have to search high and low in order to find these.

Along with great Groening-esque animation and the dulcet tones of the great actors and actresses behind each character (and guest star Phil Hartman as Troy McClure), this is one game that any Simpson fan should not be without.

Go out and buy it and place it proudly between your copies of "Simpsons Cartoon Studio" and "Simpsons Screen Saver" and your life will be far better (aside from eye-strains and severe headaches from spending hours and hours playing the game!).

Animaniacs (1993–1998)
This show has The Goodfeathers in it, what more can I say?...
11 December 1998
...mmm a lot actually! Yet again Spielberg and co.produce a well written and drawn cartoon. This cartoon genuinely is funny. The warners are mad! Mindy and Buttons are guaranteed a laugh. Pinky and the Brain are the best duo ever. The Goodfeathers are so cool. The only problem with the Goodfeathers is that you only really get the joke if you have seen Scorsese's "Goodfellas" and I doubt that kids have. And also Bobby pigeon (DeNiro) has spoken the words "Are you squawking at me?" which is mimicking the now over-used line in Taxi Driver and I doubt that kids have seen that film also. But Pesto pigeon is a really good character of Pecsi's in Goodfella's and the voice sounds so alike. Tress MacNeille never fails to amaze me with the amount of voices in many cartoons she is in. And Frank Welker is so cool (check out all the stuff he can do!).

This cartoon is always making me laugh and I see it as the same sort of humour as The Simpsons but is just solely aimed at kids. Yet can be enjoyed by all.

Batman (1989)
Man, What a movie!
11 December 1998
To be honest few days ago was the first time I saw this movie as I have been too lazy to buy it. But now I have I am so happy. It is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Although not the best Burton movie(that's a toss-up between Beetlejuice and NMBC) it never failed to keep me watching. Keaton is supoib as Batman/Wayne, much better than that pathetic attempt by Clooney. The Joker is the all time best Batman villain and Nicholson produced a really funny and brilliant performance.( I did like the Riddler also, though. But maybe I'm biased 'cos I love Jim Carrey?) All in all, Batman left me smiling to myself well after the ending credits. A must-see by anyone who is unfamiliar with Burton's works.

Ed Wood (1994)
9/10
Oooh, I did love this film...
8 December 1998
I am a great fan of Tim Burton and this is one of his best works so far. The movie hooks you from the start and keeps you there until it finishes. Johnny Depp delivers a spectacular performance as Ed Wood as he has done in Edward S. The fact that it is B/W makes it extra special as many of the best movies made are B/W: Raging Bull and Casablanca for example. I do hope that Buton carries on making movies well into the millennium!

Donnie Brasco (1997)
10/10
A deeply moving and beautiful movie.
13 November 1998
I read movie magazines regulary and I came across a review for "Donnie Brasco". I read it and thought "I would like to see that". It isn't really a well known film and I didn't remember it coming out in the cinema. So there I saw it, in my local video rental store, near the bottom shelf and just one copy. I rented it and I watched it. And I have to say it is one of the finest movies I had ever seen. It has drama, comedy, sadness and violence and continues to entertain the viewer until the opening of the end credits.

The beauty of the film is that although Pacino plays a member of the mob you end up with sympathy with him due to his loyalty to Donnie (Depp). Pacino plays Lefty well. The movie is very funny in parts and sad in others. Lefty is a very funny character and is hard not to like. Michael Madsen is my favourite actor and although you don't see enough of Sonny Black in contrast to his importance in the book, what you do see of him is enjoyable. Although the film ends differently to that in the book it shows the workings of the mafia well. A splendid over-looked movie with a great cast and an atmosphere that drags you in. Yet you have to read the brilliant book to get the full story.

Hey Arnold! (1996–2004)
Really good children's entertainment
13 November 1998
Although I may be 16 I enjoy watching cartoons as they are able to be much better than real life. I have seen the amount of appalling drama for children and the never-ending list of terrible "game shows" and none of them can compare to the great cartoons that we have to watch. Namely Simpsons, Rugrats, Cow and Chicken and of course Hey Arnold amongst others. Hey Arnold is a well drawn and written show. Kids can identify with the characters as they all seem to represent people we meet everyday. The on going love story between Helga and Arnold is so amusing as that sort of thing really does happen in the playground. It also may appeal to regular Simpsons watchers as two voicers supply voices for Hey Arnold as well as many other well-known cartoons. These great voicers are none other than Dan Castellanetta and Tress Macneille. And also Mr Simmons is voiced by Dan Butler (Bulldog in Frasier). Overall this is a great catoon with great moralistic storylines. Essential viewing by children and cartoon lovers.

The Simpsons (1989– )
Hell, I love it
10 November 1998
This has to be one of the best darn cartoons/comedies ever to grace the T.V screen. The fact that it has been going for nearly 10 years says it all. The comic timing is just right and the jokes are so funny that you're guaranteed to be begging for more! The reason why the show works so well is not because of just the family,no. The minor characters are spot on and they will have you rolling around the floor in fits of laughter more often than Homer, Marge and co. Mr Burns is THE best person on the show in my opinion. People often say that Matt Groening is a genius after every time they watch a show. Okay, I give credit to Matt due to him making up the Simpsons but it is the massive crew which make the Simpsons what it is today. It is the dozen or so writers that give us the dialogue which is unbeatable by any other programme. ( a big cheer to my fave writer John Swartzwelder is in order here!). It is the many gifted animators which give us the many hilarious moments on the show. Without these people and the rest of the crew there would be no Simpsons. Also, another key element in it being enjoyable is the cast. The many talented actors who supply their great voices. (Another big cheer for my favourite voicer Harry "Handsome" Shearer. He is my Hero!) Anyhoo, enough is being said. Just don't forget all the crew and praise them as well as Matt Groening. Simpsons Forever!
