Amadeus (1984)
Strong, mixed emotions
Before seeing "Amadeus" I expected it to be a boring movie, but wow! I was captured immediately from the starting scene of the movie. I like this movie so much because it gives me strong feelings. I think everybody who has a passion on something and want to work in the same field can somehow identify with Salieri... When you try v. hard to improve but what you achieve is work, not art; but others know exactly how to create perfection. They can't tell you how they make it but bong! there comes a piece of great art.
The movie is so good that the characters give me strong feelings. I pity Salieri but dislike him for not being content with his own talent. My heart ached in the scene when Salieri was conducting his own opera (the one he invited Mozart to see). He was passionate in his work & he was soo happy when he heard the applause and when he's praised by the Emperor. Another person may already be content in his position but Salieri tortured himself so much by his jealousy. He ruined his own life. This character gives me so much mixed emotions. Both Salieri & Mozart give me mixed feelings. They can be lovable, hateful & pitiful AT THE SAME TIME! (the portray that Salieri loves dessert & the happiness he shows when he's praised give him a lovable side in his character) btw, the scene when Salieri helped Mozart to write down his music is v. successful to give me strong, mixed emotions. The pity for both of them, & the strange relationship % them. (think about how Mozart perceives Salieri )
Mystery Men (1999)
not perfect, but I enjoy it v. much
Although this movie is not perfect, & there're some moments I don't like (like the farting part), I still like this movie very much. It's funny and warm at the same time. I also want to add that Bowler's father being killed by the villan is one of the cliche in Superhero stories. The film reminds me of Superman (e.g.Captain Amazing having two identities), Batman, etc. (actually I haven't seen lots of Superhero comoics before, but I'm still familiar with them in movies) I truely enjoy this movie.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
the music stays with me
I'm the kind of person who can enjoy movie purely for its presentation, style, atmosphere... movies that arouse my emotions, regardless of the plot. Seeing Moulin Rouge is like entering a dream world. The setting & the scenes in the first half an hour of the movies are like the subconscious mind. I think memory is like this, they're impressions more than facts. okok, back to the topic. I went to see the movie 'cause I'm a fan of Ewan McGregor & I like musicals. It ends up I got more than I wanted. The songs are great. Without the characters singing, I think I couldn't have empathy w/ them (the storyline is quite weak). The songs help the plot to develop so that There's no need to lay hints for the characters to fall in love w/ eachother. Even one song is enough to show us their love. (Music is a world language) Also, Nichole Kidman acts well & she makes me have empathy to her. (also I'm a female, I can put myself in her role better)Although I like McGregor more in his wilder roles (like in "Velvet Goldmine" & "Transpotting"), I still enjoy seeing him as the sensitive writer. After seeing this movie, the music still stays w/ me.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
creepy but has plot holes.
I admit that this movie is very dark and creepy, the emotional elements are good and the actors are good, especially the child actor Haley Joey Osment. I just fully believe in his character. He acts naturally, not the "trying to appear mysterious" type. Also, it is the type of movie that make me feel uncomfortable and keep thinking afterwards. However, there are too many plot holes. I just don't understand why some ghosts can move things and some can't, why some ghosts can't see/realize their own wounds... The atmosphere is great though. Also, ghosts that walk pass like normal are much horrible than ghosts which just look scary & dangerous. The story makes me feel depressed too.
Dance of the Vampires (1967)
childhood memory...
This movie is one of my best childhood movie-watching memories.
I like both the opening and the ending. Especially the ending, which surprised me and made me want more of the story. What happens next? But it's genius to end like that. And it's the first vampire movie I watched. I also like the funny elements in the movie.
