Follyfoot (1971–1973)
Down in the meadow...
14 March 2004
This really was a great children's show of the 1970's. Based on the bestselling books by Charles Dickens great-granddaughter, Monica. At Follyfoot Farm, the Colonel looks after old and ill-treated horses, helped by his stepdaughter, Callie, and two stable-hands, Dora and Steve. These three have plenty to do at the stables, but can always find time to get involved in the mystery and adventure that abound at the farm. Anyone who loves horses and enjoyed Black Beauty for example would love this show as would anyone seeking good old fashioned entertainment. And that theme song-once you hear it you can't stop singing it! So go on, sit back, sing along and enjoy some nostalgia. they really don't make them like this anymore.

Columbo at his best
29 January 2004
Columbo playing the tuba? Yes, that's one of the highlights of this delightful and funny adventure, in which a famous sex therapist crosses wits with our hero. Another great moment is Peter Falk giving advice to a bunch of psychiatrists! This really is one of the best outings for Columbo and will delight fans, both old and new.

Family life as it was
14 January 2004
This is an excellent film about a traditional working class family in Northern England. Filmed on location in Bolton, it stars James Mason as the father who is the dominant force within his home. Or so it seems. Cleverly, the film, based on the play, portrays the complexities of family life. The supporting cast is terrific as well, with many familiar faces lending support.

Overhyped?
10 January 2004
I do find myself agreeing with the reviewer who said this might be the reverse "Gigli." It is a pleasant enough film and I certainly wouldn't knock it. However, it's placing in the all time list, I can honestly only put down to hype. It's quirky, for sure, but it's no "Citizen Kane." Frankly, in some parts it's a little dull. If people take these moments as something more profound, as some critics did, then I suppose it will get a certain reputation. However, see it and make your own mind up.

What a Turkey
10 January 2004
Well, I haven't seen a movie as bad as this for awhile. Even Pearl Harbor was better. There are gaping problems with script, direction and sad to say, acting. The main problem though is sexual tension between the two leads or rather the lack of it. I've seen more sexual charisma in a wet lettuce. Unbelievably bad. What were the stars thinking?

Good Fun!
7 January 2004
This is a very little remembered series but good fun all the same. Jon Pertwee really seemed to enjoy himself and it shows in the banter between the panelists. I actually still have the book of this series and would love to view these episodes again.

Wickedly Funny Satire
1 December 2003
This really is an excellent series.Set in the murky world of PR,it brilliantly sends up the world of celebrity and political spin. Wickedly funny and all too true to life. Originally a radio series for BBC R4,it has successfully crossed over to the small screen.

Excellent

This really was a great series. The classic story of Black Beauty is continued here with fine performances and great locations. And who could forget that theme tune! If you remember it the first time around,it will bring back memories. If not, watch it and enjoy for the first time, the adventures of a very famous horse.

What's New, Scooby-Doo? (2002–2006)
Back to its best!
29 November 2003
This series is Scooby Doo back to it's very best. Having seen several episodes now, I am a big fan. The fact that it's under new production is better, to be honest. It's a Scrappy free zone and whilst the animation is suitably modern, the characters and plots are tried and tested. There are plenty of in jokes and any fan of the original series should support this show. Go, Scooby, go!

You'll choke on this pie
19 August 2003
This is a real stinker. Bottom of the barrel, going through the motions type of stuff. If thats what you like, fine. Otherwise, stay away. My eight year old niece thought this was "cool." Need I say more? You'll be yawning at the gross out scenes and wondering when the good stuff starts. Don't bother, there isn't any in this real mess of a film.

Don't buy a slice of this pie
19 August 2003
Following the success of the first film, it was inevitable that a sequel would follow. And surprise, surprise, it isn't even as good as the not exactly brilliant original. More of the same but the forced desperation shows. If you can spell sophistication or can use a dictionary to look it up, you're too intelligent for this mess.

Tries to shock
19 August 2003
This is your run of the mill teen comedy that will appeal to a certain crowd and not to others. It's main selling point is its "shock" value, which basically translates as trying to gross you out. Sometimes this works, other times it doesn't. Anyone who is familiar with this genre will know what to expect.

Black comedy at its best
19 August 2003
This is a real treat for fans of black comedy. Superbly twisted, it stands convention on its head and makes for some very interesting and funny viewing. Not for the easily shocked, the subject matter is so well handled, that you forget it could be controversial. Definitely, one of the films of the year.

Warlock (1959)

Complex Western
19 August 2003
This is not your run of the mill western. Rather darker than most and covering issues at a level rarely seen in this genre. It tells the story of a hired gunslinger (Fonda), hired to protect the town of Warlock. But beyond that simple premise is an allegorical tale that that tells us something about society and the nature of relationships. But this is not to say it's dull. There's enough action here for it to be appreciated at a ground level. Both Widmark and Quinn have interestingly complex characters that interact well with Fonda. The female cast is suitably attractive and Malone is particularly good as the embittered ex lover of Quinn.

80's Classic
10 August 2003
I recently saw this again on DVD and was impressed with how well its aged. This was a cult favourite of the 80's and I'm glad to report it's stood the test of time. The film is rightly famous for it's special effects and these are still jaw droppingly good. However, it's more than just an exercise in make up. It's a brave attempt to cross genres and succeeds admirably. The main leads are all excellent, with Agutter perfect as the English rose love angle. See it today!

Makes You Think..
10 August 2003
This is another British cult classic that a lot of Americans don't seem to "get." Perhaps because it crosses genres and isn't Hollywood? Anyway, this is a fine film that moves at a measured pace and builds up to a dramatic finale. Keep an open mind and expose yourself to some fine, moody film making.

Haunting
10 August 2003
This is truly one of the great films of all time. From beginning to end, it is deeply evocative and ultimately, disturbing. Beautifully shot, it captures on film two actors at the top of their game. This won't be for everyone but any serious film fan must watch it. A moody masterpiece.

Fluffy but Entertaining
30 July 2003
This film is not Lancaster's best but is enjoyable if you enjoy watching him in his athletic prime. Beautifully shot, it captures the exciting times of adventure on the high seas and island exploration. The plot is fairly insubstantial and there's nothing new here but at just over 90 minutes, the story never drags. Definitely worth a look if you're a fan of Burt's.

Solid Entertainment
5 May 2003
This is worth sitting down to watch. Not your typical Miss Marple, as it takes place in Barbados. However, all the usual ingredients are there to make this a worthwhile diversion. I agree that there are some changes from the book, but on the whole these are positive. Give it a go.

Poor outing for Carry On fans
20 April 2003
This is definitely one of the weaker of the series of Carry On films. It lacks the usual fun and sparkle and even the cast seem embarrassed by the poor dialogue. By the time this came out, the series was in terminal decline and boy does it show! If you're coming fresh to this series, avoid this one till near the end.

Excellent thriller with good twist
9 April 2003
A bitter airline pilot fakes his own death and gets his wife to collect the money. They escape to sunny Europe after committing a perfect crime. But, of course, there's always the dogged investigator to make things difficult.

This movie is a good afternoon's diversion. It's bright, flashy and pacey. With John Mortimer writing and Carol Reed directing, it has a certain touch of class. It's not an A list movie by any means, but a quick look in any reference book will tell you that it's well respected. Good performances, bright locations and a decent pace make this well worth a look.

Gripping True Story
5 January 2003
This is a very powerful, moving true story. Recalling a great miscarriage of the British judicial system, it follows events as Sheila Bowler is falsely accused of murdering her elderly aunt. Patricia Routledge is absolutely superb as the middle aged woman who's faith in natural justice was sadly misplaced

Where's the real Columbo?
5 January 2003
Most definitely the worst Columbo ever dreamt up. No murder and the abandonment of the tried and tested formula makes this a real drag. Falk looks bored throughout and so will you be if you waste anytime watching this.

Columbo gets it wrong!
5 January 2003
Yes, Columbo gets it wrong or does he? This is an excellent Columbo story which adds a neat twist to the usual formula. Falk is lively throughout and by setting it in the glamour world, there are plenty of opportunities for comic moments. Very well paced and a treat to watch.

Not the best Miss Marple
5 January 2003
This is a little different from the normal Miss Marple and suffers a little because of it, I feel. We see less than usual of Jane Marple as the story concentrates on the newlyweds, so that although enjoyable in itself, this is not the best Miss Marple mystery.
