Walk the Prank (2016–2018)
Not what I expected from Disney
9 May 2016
To avoid spoiling the show for those who like this type of show I will not give specifics about the pranks.

Disney has a reputation of family friendly entertainment. This show definitely does not fit into that category. It is basically Punk'd for kids. It comes across (to me at east) as rather mean spirited. The pranks are supposedly dreamed-up by some middle school kids to be played on older teens and adults. All I can take away fro this show is that kids should make grown-ups look stupid, and if you record it maybe Disney will give you a show.

This is definitely a must miss show, it should be moved to MTV where it belongs and not on the Disney Channel.

Not exactly what I expected
28 December 2014
This is a good movie and the entire cast does a very good job but it is not what I thought it was going to be. After seeing the commercials, sneak peeks and behind the scenes shorts I was expecting a movie more in line with the typical Disney fare; a scene providing some information and maybe a story point or two then a song (i.e. Toy Story, High School Musical, etc.). "Into the woods" is more in line with a traditional Opera where every line is done in song. The actress playing Red Riding Hood does a terrific job with her part of the song "Into the woods," you can hear a part of it in the commercials. There is only about 10 minutes of spoken dialogue in the entire movie.

Bottom line is if you do not like the opera production format wait for this movie to come to Netflix (or however you rent movies) so you don't feel so bad about spending so much money if you can't sit through the entire movie.

An adult that liked this movie
11 December 2012
I saw this on TV so I missed out on the sound and feel of a Theater viewing. And I think that that is a sad thing. The graphics are great on the small screen so they must be amazing on the big.

The story was very good, though (for grown-ups) a bit predictable. Basically Tinker Bell (a warm weather fairy) wants to cross the border to the winter realm, which is against the rules. Similarly a Winter Fairy wants to see the warm realm. When these two get together the typical Tinker Bell problems ensue requiring fairies from both realms to come together to fix.

For the adults this is escapist entertainment with a mild political overtone. For the kids this is great entertainment with friendship, action, some adventure and just a touch of learning why we have rules.

My only negative comment is the song that played in the background throughout the movie. It is something about dividing or a divide. I don't usually comment on an individual's talent if I cannot do a better job, but whoever was singing that song needs to quit. The voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard and extremely distracting.

I would have given this movie a full 10 stars had it not been for the constant playing of that song.

Not really a documentary
26 August 2012
I cannot give this any stars as a documentary, though as a fictional movie I would give it a 2.

Full disclosure: I am an independent voter.

I try to see a many "true" documentaries as I can. Because they focus on the facts and stay away from opinion, unlike "2016: Obama's America."

It is fitting that I saw this around National Dog Day because it reminded me of the @#*& I clean up after my pet. I looked for facts and other than the credits (I assume) all I got was the opinion of D'Souza & Sullivan.

I will not specify any particular error made in this story because the more it is repeated the more people believe it. Plus I would have to recount the entire movie.

Fish Hooks (2010–2014)

They phoned this one in
19 July 2012
I am totally disappointed by this show. The animation is bad and the scripts are not even that good.

Disney has a long history of humanizing animals and inanimate objects with amazing, and sometimes ground breaking results (think The Little mermaid, Aristocats, The Rescuers, etc.) and this is the best they can come up with for their flagship channel? Disney established itself as the place to go for quality animation. When the show was bad the art work was always great. Then came Fish Hooks. It looks like it was drawn by a grade school art class. It looks similar to an old cartoon I found on the internet called "Clutch Cargo." This deficit could be overlooked if the script was at least a little better. But there seems to be little hope for that in the near future.

Let It Shine (2012 TV Movie)

Needs work
11 July 2012
I watched this movie twice. Once when it first aired. The second time was when they displayed the song lyrics on the screen; because I wanted to be sure I heard the lyrics correctly. Both times I was not very impressed. I found it unrelatable. The story itself is just another rehash of Cyrano de Bergerac and not a very good one at that. I know of nobody who would not raise a big stink if somebody else was given their prize. Some of the dialogue was what I hear and say everyday and I totally got that, but most of it seemed like some old guy stepped in and made them change it to old guy speak.

I was really looking forward to hearing the music, until I did. The Rap was totally lame. For most of them they were jerky, there was just no flow. I think that it was written by committee. Each person submitted a line and they were all thrown into a hat. Then pulled out and here's your Rap.

Basically, for Disney, it was a fair first effort into a movie with an all African American cast.

Fred: The Show (2012–2023)

OMG this show sucks!!!!!
4 April 2012
A freak with a falsetto voice running around acting stupid, come on. After watching three episodes I still cannot say exactly what the show is about and I found that I was looking forward to the commercials and the sweet release of the end credits. I don't know what they were taking at Nickelodeon when they decided to put this show on TV but I want some. Instead of airing episodes of Fred they should just send out whatever it is they are taking so we all feel good. I understand that Fred was a YouTube Star. Perhaps Fred should return to the internet and Nickelodeon should find some shows that appeal to the entire family. Nickelodeon said they were looking into why Disney beat them in the ratings; the answer is "FRED".

It still has its moments
5 January 2012
This show was once the Gold Standard of entertainment reporting (I think they even call themselves that in the credits). But in the last year or so it has gone from legitimate reporting to a simple tabloid show. Billy Bush seems to have only two jobs on the show; to give his opinion on whatever crosses his mind and promote his morning show. They need to replace Billy with somebody that can do an interview and report the facts without editorializing.

If you only want to know who is sleeping with whom or which celebrity is rumored to have done something and you don't feel like buying the National Enquirer watch this show. But if you are looking for real entertainment reporting go to the internet there are many sites that do a much better job.

A.N.T. Farm (2011–2014)
Characters out of balance
19 October 2011
This show really needs to be reworked. It seems to be a Hannah Montana knock-off. The lead character is a singer (without the secret identity). Since the show began I have come to seriously dislike the Chyna Parks character she is constantly bossing her friends around insisting that they do what she wants with little concern for their feelings of ideas. The show would be much better if she went from a lead character to a costar and they elevated the other characters to equal status. The two cheerleaders Lexi and Paisley are good though they should make Paisley a bit smarter (she is in High School after all). And Lexi's schemes always make me laugh. The Angus character just needs to go away he is absolutely useless. Since the show began he was only useful in one episode. Finesse Mitchell is hilarious as the dad (Darryl) but I think that there are some Cops out there that may not care for him. Overall if they tone down Chyna and spotlight the other characters this show will be a really good show.

Update: After watching pretty much every episode I think I have figured out the basic storyline for each episode.

The show opens with one or more of the cast members either wanting to do something not wanting to do something or doing something.

Enter Chyna. She sees what is happening and she either doesn't want the cast member do something, wants them to do something or wants to do it herself.

She comes up with a plan to get her way; regardless of what her "friend(s)" want.

She drafts her "friends" into helping her. Her plan fails. She sings a song.

Chyna's "friends" apologize.

I put "friends" in parenthesis because she doesn't treat them like true friends. Also they are still using the autotuner for Chyna's songs. This is usually used for people that do not sing very well. So its use confuses me since I cannot believe that Disney would have somebody sing if they really can't

Shake It Up (2010–2013)
This is a good show that needs work
19 October 2011
I started watching this show with low expectations. I thought it would be a Disney version of the dancing reality shows we are suffering though on the other channels, so I was pleasantly surprised. The dance scenes and music are very good, not my favorite but good. The stories are basic Disney; the girls want something, they do something they shouldn't to try and get it, mess-up and get punished (though we never actually see them being punished). In my opinion the show would be much improved if they dropped the Flynn character and had the older kids interact together more. In other posts some people have commented on Davis Cleveland's (Flynn) acting skills. I don't think it is appropriate to do that, but I will say that the character Flynn is the most annoying character I have ever. Flynn brings absolutely nothing to the show. Flynn is too pushy for a child his age and his behavior sets a bad example for other kids his age. I have to say that I am surprised that Disney would put a character like him on one of their shows.

Update: After watching many more episodes I have come to the conclusion that Flynn is a bully. He verbally abuses everybody. Is constantly belittling all the other kids and acting superior to them all. He stops just short of physically assault. Though in one episode they did imply that he gave the smart kid a wedgy.

This Is It (2009)

Neither really good nor really bad
3 November 2009
I was very disappointed with this… movie? It is not a documentary about Michael Jackson's preparations for his comeback tour. And, it is not really a concert movie. It doesn't really show much of what goes into putting together a concert or (in this case) a world tour. I would have liked to see more of the prep work that went into deciding which songs to include and which were rejected. I did enjoy most of the music even though Michael does state several times that he is holding back to rest his voice for the tour. I found the whole show to be a bit choppy and slightly disjointed. For me the guitar player with the hard to pronounce name (Orianthi) was the best part of the entire show. But, if you are a die-hard Michael Jackson fan you should enjoy seeing him on the big screen.

If you have a half an hour to waste you could do worse
29 August 2009
I give this show a 3 because it is a poor combination of the old Beatles movies and a show from the 60's called "The Monkees." I assume that the boys are good musicians but they are really not very good actors. They seem to be trying to convince us that they are just regular teenagers who happen to be pop stars. I cannot find any regular teenagers that have a recording studio in their bedroom or a sunken bed with a cover that lifts at the touch of a button.

The bright points in this show are Chelsea Staub and Nicole Anderson. Both of these ladies have appeared in many other shows and movies and are clearly the talent that holds this show together.

This show has more long shots and full length views than any other Disney show so it appears that even Disney realizes that this show is mostly about looking at the cast and not paying attention to the acting.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (2008 TV Special)
3/10
A 3 hour commercial for NBC shows
27 November 2008
I grew up watching this parade. Every Thanksgiving the old folks would be in the kitchen preparing dinner and us kids would be in front of the TV watching the floats and marveling at the monstrous balloons speculating on how they kept them from floating away, rarely noticing the people holding the ropes attached to them. But over the years I have noticed that the broadcast has become less about the parade and more of a commercial for bad programs on NBC and Broadway shows that most of us will never be able to see. It appears that the format for broadcasting the Macy's Parade is 30 seconds showing the parade, 5 minutes of a Broadway show, 5 minutes of interviewing the star of a failing or upcoming NBC show, 5 minutes of the folks in the booth "overlooking Harold Square" and repeat for 3 hours.

Enough with the integrated commercials, go back to basics. Show us the bands; some of those kids worked really hard to raise money to appear in the parade. And the floats; there is a lot of in putting one of those together.

Save your money and rent the DVD
15 November 2008
I was entirely disappointed with this installment of the 007 movies. They have done away with all the neat gadgets that Q would make for Bond. No bullet proof car. No mini mines. No nothing. They have stripped almost all the humor (there was only two laughs from the audience when I was there). Bond would charm the girls with a double entendre, trade barbs with the bad guys just before defeating them then go off with the girl. That is all gone. They changed the opening. The moving eye and Bond shooting is in the closing credits. The silhouetted girls swimming during the theme song is gone. There is no lead in we are just thrown into an action scene. I think that in the entire 2 hours there was about 10 minutes of dialogue. The rest was shooting, fighting, one car chase, a boat chase and a dogfight. Basically it is a generic action film script (think the Jason Bourne films). If that is your thing then this is your film. But if you are looking for a traditional Bond film stay away this ain't it.

Change is not necessarily good
8 November 2008
I really enjoyed this show when Chef Robert Irvine was hosting. He brought a balance of suspense (is he going to succeed in his mission or fail) and humor. When things would go sideways his exasperated expressions killed me. I liked watching his methods and the pointers he would give on why he was doing something and how he was doing it. It was especially helpful to see when something went wrong, or an item got burnt, just how he would fix the problem.

I like the new guy, Chef Michael Symon, but he isn't as much fun to watch. His fixation on pork makes me wonder if he doesn't own a hog farm somewhere. I liked the Kosher show because it showed he has the skills. But he hasn't taught me anything like Chef Robert did. I think that if they had to use one of the American Iron Chefs Chef Kat Cora would have been a better fit for this show. She makes cooking look like fun.

An hour I will never get back
18 October 2008
This show is very well done. But it was just as well done when Jamie Oliver did it several years ago. This is just an Americanization of his show. I applaud Chef Jeff for his actions and intentions. But I must confess that I got very tired of hearing him say "When I was in prison…". In the first episode he took untrained kids to prepare a special meal for the cast of General Hospital. With one exception these kids had no training in professional food preparation and it showed. It also showed that Chef Jeff does not have the patience to be an instructor. He was so busy doing that he hardly had time to instruct his students. When one did ask for help he snapped at him and walked off. Overall the show is a good idea but they need to bring in a Chef instructor to supervisor so Chef Jeff can be the worker he wants to be. Until then I will not be wasting anymore time with this show.

Zoey 101 (2005–2008)
Could be a good show wit cast changes
28 September 2007
After listening to the kids talking and laughing about this show I thought I would check it out. I really did not like it. But I think it could be saved if they focused more on the “supporting characters” and less on this Zoey character. The girl that plays Zoey (sorry I am not up on the names) really needs some acting training. She seems to be constantly shouting her lines rather than speaking in a normal tone. I think that if they were to dump the actress playing Zoey and let the smart girl and wild roommate take over the lead this could be a terrific show. There seems to be far too much focus on getting Zoey and her boyfriend to say, “I love you.” It is cute but it seems that going to PCH is all about finding a boyfriend or girlfriend. Don’t they have classes? In the week that I watched all I saw were kids trying to hook-up and eating pizza or sushi. There was one episode with a hidden camera. The kid was caught and nothing happened to him.

This is definitely a wait for the TV release movie
31 December 2005
There are four reasons to go see this movie. Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Eugene Levy and Alison Stoner. Stoner is terrific as the evil child. When Martin turns her loose to play pranks she makes the rest of the movie hilarious. Hunt and Martin together make a great comedic team. But, even they accompanied by Eugene Levy couldn't save this movie from mediocrity. If they had not shown most of the best scenes in the commercials and on the talk shows and if they cut most of the useless subplots and about half of the kids this could have been a slightly better than halfway decent movie. If you are not an avid fan of these four performers then stay home and wait for it to appear on your favorite network.

Save your money wait for the video
12 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
If you are not a reader of Clive Cussler’s books you may enjoy this movie. There are some decent action scenes and it has Penélope Cruz in a bikini. But, if you are a fan of Cussler’s books or have even just read the one this movie is based on then you will find this movie is a waste of 2 hours of your time. Beyond the names of the movie and the characters the movie bears little resemblance to the book. The book (hardcover) is 65 chapters essentially about how the unsafe storage of toxic materials is killing people, polluting the ocean and threatening to kill off all life on earth. Of that barely two chapters (the shortest in the book) that even mention the Texas and of that only two or three sentences even mention treasure, yet that is what Mr. Donnelly chose to focus his screenplay on while virtually ignoring the main story.

I must applaud the actors for their efforts though. They took a mediocre script and made an almost watchable movie.

Darcy's Wild Life (2004–2006)
A wonderful diversion
27 February 2005
My family loves this show, it has become a Saturday afternoon staple for our family. The stories could be a bit more fleshed out, instead of having two stories running simultaneously they should concentrate on one, but for a 30-minute family show it is very good. I think that Shannon Collis and Sara Paxton are a terrific team and they are even better when they include they include the third girl (sorry I don't recall her name). The only negative comment I can make is about the Jack character. Andrew Chalmers plays him very well, but they just do not make good use of him. And you just can't miss the antics of the farmhand Eli. Even if you do not care for girls Kerry Saxena's slapstick comedy is worth watching.

This is a classic
16 July 2004
This is a classic disappointment. There is minimal character development and, even allowing for the fairy tale aspect, wholly implausible plot points, like a popular football player needing to find a girl on the internet. Hilary Duff plays a whining moaning character that is put upon by having to help support her family while she is looking forward to going to one of the most expensive schools in the U.S.

The acting only barely kept the movie alive. Jennifer Coolidge, Regina King and Madeline Zima make this movie bearable, but only just. Hilary Duff's character is more annoying than endearing. This is an easily forgettable character that is poorly played by a mediocre actress. Chad Michael Murray either did not read the script or they offered him a truckload of money to play Austin.

Aside from Coolidge, King and Zima the most enjoyable part of this movie was getting to the theatre just as they finished making a fresh batch of popcorn.

Rating ---- 0/10.

10.5 (2004)
Much better than Chuck's "Earthquake"
4 May 2004
Now that the movie makers have gotten around to remaking the disaster movies of the 70's I am pleased that they chose to start with this one. I thought that 10.5 was so much better than the Charlton Heston "Earthquake" movie. I enjoyed the fact that 10.5 took us up and down the West Coast and did not focus entirely on downtown LA. Plus unlike it's predecessor, the actors in this version were actually very good and, the reality issues aside, the special effects were excellent. But, after living in the LA area for several years, my favorite part was watching most of Southern California fall into the ocean. Overall, with few exceptions, this was a terrific movie.

The Swan (2004–2005)
So this is what TV has come to
8 April 2004
The Swan was so bad that I couldn't stand to watch the entire show. Fox is known for pushing the envelope and providing us with entertainment that is right on the edge of being tasteless. The Swan not only crosses the line it is light years beyond it. To take women who are starting out with low self-esteem and tell them that you are going to make them beautiful but they have to be good enough to win a beauty contest is the very definition of bad taste. This show is setting a dangerous example for teenagers with self-esteem issues and should be pulled immediately.

If the FCC is to investigate any show for being offensive this is the one.

An okay remake
20 December 2003
Sadly this remake is not as good as the original. But, Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt make it worth seeing. I am pleased to see Tom Welling breaking through the Superman stereotype. I was extremely disappointed with Hillary Duff though. Even playing opposite talents like Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt could not make her look good. She came very close to making this a must miss movie.

This show is more suited to being a daytime soap opera than a prime time drama. The writing is unoriginal and frankly quite bland. Overall it is a totally unimpressive show and not really worth the cost of the electricity to keep the TV on.
