C'mon C'mon (2021)
Give It A Chance
"C'mon C'mon" is great. The title even suggests a whimsy the pacing displays yet the takeaways are heavy af. C'MONNNNN.... don't be scared, give this movie a chance!
This is a movie that, with its charming black and white colors and creative photography, begs for your attention. The handheld camera work allows impromptu bus rides and intimate parades and the tenderness between related males, and all the energy these environments allow. I'm such a fan of dark scenes with slivers of light that you don't quite know what you're looking at until a character turns on the lights. (May I direct you to a LOST s01e13 scene with Boone and Shannon?)
This is a movie that shows parenthood in the broadest sense of adults affecting children. The struggle to constantly be thinking of one's actions and how they remain with others: really raises the stakes! This is mostly evident by the kid Jesse reactions to the adult whisperings around him. The thoughtful quotes from "Mothers: an essay on love and cruelty" from Jacqueline Rose and "Star Child" by Claire A. Nivola acts as the scale of emotional education Jesse has absorbed from his own mom and now his uncle joins along the journey. Yes, watching men be vulnerable is an easy win for me. So very GOTCHA. Totes instagram memes. Now to find that online apology script...
This is a movie that teaches audio appreciation. I wouldn't be surprised if it births baby boom ops. It kinda makes me want all actors to have directional microphones attached to their jawbones so their perspectives are that much more accurate in their scenes. See above regarding environmental energies. Those Venice beach scenes compared to Manhattan skate parks really grabs you by the senses!
This is a movie that interviews city kids for a fake podcast but with real intent. They're asked about their cities, the future, and the adults around them, astute in saying what the ones in charge don't. We all know that kids say the "darndest things" i.e. Truth bombs yet I was quite in awe of the pushback from one New Orleans child that holds his truth dear to him. This child died in the real world and Mike Mills acknowledged this in the credits very sweetly. Speaking of-
This is a movie that forced the audience to *sit through the entire credits* - maybe even with their eyes mostly closed (like I had to so I could focus on not the hundreds of brilliant people's names scrolling by but the continuation of hearing more of gems from kids). I'm usually alone in the theater by the time the credits finish and I didn't even mind having to walk out with the rest of the moviegoers. Perhaps this tactic is best for "indie types" whose audience size will be easier on the mass exodus but I'd love more excuses for people to stay til the very end of the cinematic experience, and not just for a bonus scene. #drstrangetrailer
But like I said... C'MON C'MONNNNN.... give this movie a chance! Your future self will thank you.
St. Elmo's Fire (1985)
Our early life is a series of plateaus
From director Joel Schumacher - "Adulthood is a state that you are constantly defining for yourself as you go along, hoping that an 'adult' is what other people will see. In 'St. Elmo's Fire' we wanted to dramatize the passion and uncertainty of that time. We also wanted to make a point about self-created drama: When most of us look back on our twenties, we see that a lot of the incredible drama we went through was self-created. I hope that older people will be reminded of what they went through and younger people will see something of themselves and their own lives. Each of the friends faces decisions that will determine his or her future".
Fight Club (1999)
Hated it first, but forced to watch again to pursue love affair with edward
Yes, i did hate this movie very much when i first watched it. i wanted to kill everyone. i hate movies with stupid masses!! but since i love mr. norton and all of his work (and i didn't want to be a hypocrite) i forced myself to watch it again, by myself just in case i got the urge. to my happiness, i grew to love the movie as i'm sure you will if you've never seen it or do if you have.
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
Wonderfully done! A little gratuitous, but that's what Austin is all about.
People that went to see it, even though they disliked the first one, are ruining it for those of us who did like the first one and would consider not going to see it. I for one ignored all (if that many at all) negative comments about the movie because I knew that if the first one "got my mojo running" then the second would do wonders. AND I WAS RIGHT!
Not many movies move me to go see them twice, but this was a must do-again film. I agree with those who say it's better than the first--and that's how it should be. Not like those movies where the funny plot is established but the energy lacks, SPY WHO SHAGGED ME was outrageously funny and kept me laughing for many days after I saw it. No, I'm not a nose-picking little dork who'd laugh at a dog licking himself. The comedy may not be as sophisticated as we'd all like, but what'd you except when seeing a Mike Myers movie?
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
Who Da Man? Mike Myers..Dat Who!
yeah that was cute. but what was extremely cute was this movie. yes it was a little 8th grade humor.. yes the jokes were very repetitious BUT WE ALL NEED THAT SOMETIMES IN OUR LIVES it can't all be ..Titanics and Casablancas we need a little crazy humor in our lives.
i hope this has enlightened your view. cheers mates!
Disneyland: Little Dog Lost (1963)
A cute way to portray what might happen if a...(let's say)--
=dog might drown or need to climb up a hollowed out tree, or just to let you know that all catfish aren't always as nice as they seem. I gave it a 7 for the dogs cast in this had to go through horrendous circumstances for a movie that is showed on the Disney channel at 12:00 in the morning. YOU GO DOGS!! And i give kudos to the little girl who (though only had a small role) gave a magnificent cry when the cheetah tried to kill her. Also, it must be hard to work with animals, but the other actors did a beautiful job as well. If only it'd been up for an academy award, think where canines might stand in our communities. I think they should make a re-make of it. Maybe use the dog from Fraiser and the Air Bud one too. Then cast the Welch's Grape Juice girl and Jack Lemmon and we're in business! ~A movie for the millennium~
