Should have stopped at #2
25 May 2002
I guess the series is officially getting weak. It's a shame, since the 1st movie was really good. Besides the story, the cameos by Kane Hodder, Robert Englund & Tony Todd. But, the next two (and upcoming #4) are all made-for-video, & they all seem to be getting weaker & weaker. The biggest reason why? All of the sequels are rushed out with micro small budgets & scripts. This should have been the start of a great horror franchise, but each sequel is dwindling it. Alright, now for part 3...there isn't anything spectacular about this one. The Djinn returns, this time the setting is at a school, & must be stopped. The biggest disappointment about this movie is the acting. Jason Connery (son of Sean) stars as the Djinn. His bad, overacting is the worst part of this movie. Talk about bad casting. The effects are weak as well. Rent it on video only if you want to see a bad movie. Hopefully #4 will be better, but they need to bring back the original team who brought us the original 'Wishmaster'.

Jason X (2001)

A lot of fun!
11 May 2002
No, my expectations weren't too high on this movie. I figured, 'Oh no, another horror flick thrown into the future'. But, I was surprised...they did a great job with this movie. What saved the movie was that when the movie moved from present time to the future, no one tried to make the future time setting into a crazy Star Trek type setting. Everyone still acted the same & in many ways, it was still like a old Friday movie. Decent direction & writing make this movie enjoyable for fans & other movie goers. When Jason is frozen at a cryo-facility (since he can't really be killed), his body & a female's are discovered over 400 years later by a scientific expedition team. (Earth is no longer inhabitated, since it has become a 'dead' planet). But when the two are brought onboard the space vessel, it is too late. Before the female can warn the others about Jason, he thaws out & wrecks havoc on the ship. Some great effects & death scenes make the movie fun. Also, keep an eye out for the Camp scenes towards the end...these are hilarious.

One of the best movies ever!
12 January 2002
Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of Wes Anderson's earlier films 'Bottle Rocket' or 'Rushmore', but I am sure glad I saw this movie. I'm a huge Gene Hackman fan, & I figured with him & the rest of the cast this was going to be a good film. I should have said excellent. This is by far one of the best films I have seen...ever. Hackman gives a superior performance, comedic at times, which is Oscar worthy. When Royal Tenebaum(Hackman) is thrown out of the hotel he is living at, he decides to search out his estranged family. Hoping to get a place to stay, he tells his children & wife that he is dying. But the more time he spends with his family, he starts to 'live' again. What was a love-hate relationship with him & his family starts to change with some great results. Most of the flashback scenes are hysterical. This is a must-see.

Driven (2001)
7/10
Above average racing movie
5 January 2002
There haven't been too many car racing movies that were good. Burt Reynold's 'Stroker Ace' was a good ol' boy comedy that pleased the fans that it was aiming for. Tom Cruise's 'Days Of Thunder' was just so-so. Sly Stallone's 'Driven' was much much better than the two combined. Sly also wrote the screenplay to the movie, which helped tremendously. The plot was decent, but the casting was just so-so. Sly was excellent as the retired car driver brought back into action to mentor a young rookie driver who's losing his edge midway through the season. Reynolds appears here also, this time as the car owner who employs Sly. Burt portrays his stearn character very well. You don't know if you like him or hate him in the movie. The rest of the cast was ok...could have been better, but when you have great racing scenes to make up for it, all is well. Critics & fans blasted this movie for all the wrong reasons. They saw it & expected 'The Deer Hunter'. The movie was made for racing & Stallone fans. Sly's screenplay made me think of Rocky...a retired has-been driver brought back for another chance. His acting & writing were great in the movie. Sly gets criticized often for his acting & roles, but does he make the great action movies to win oscars...? No, he does them for his fans. That's why the fans love him so much. Great work Sly, & I can't wait to see 'Avenging Angelo' in 2002.

Wow, what a ride!
5 January 2002
Now, here's another example: for the people that blasted this movie, why? Is it because you weren't expecting a Stallone action movie? If so, why did you see it? The video box alone should have been a clue. For those who are Stallone fans & are expecting a Rambo-like cop, go see this movie...you will not be disappointed! It's great. When a woman witnesses a murder, it's up to detective Cobretti(Stallone) to protect her from the assailants. It's a guilty pleasure!

Should have stopped at 'Batman Returns'
3 January 2002
Joel Schumaker does seem to understand that less can be more. I think he saw the 'Dick Tracy' movie & felt that he needed to suffocate the viewer...for the second straight movie. George Clooney isn't bad as Batman/Bruce Wayne, but he is wasted in the role, as is Uma Thurman who is good as Poison Ivy. The Mr. Freeze character was ridiculous; is this a Batman movie or a Saturday Morning kids show? Instead of focusing on characters & plot, like the first 2 movies, this movie instead throws in too many colors & characters. It's not a horrible movie, but doesn't even come close to the first 2 movies. Hopefully, Michael Keaton will be asked to return as Batman, & save the series.

Decent flick with too many characters
3 January 2002
Ok...the movie wasn't horrible, but could have been better. First, there were too many characters & too little storyline. Tommy Lee Jones, who rarely does comedy, shines as Two-Face. He was terrific in this role. Jim Carrey, who usually tries & steal the spotlight, does in this movie as well. He gets quite annoying early in the film. Maybe this is one reason why I couldn't get interested in the movie. Nicole Kidman was good in her role, which was supposed to be a copy of Kim Basinger's role in the first 'Batman' movie. Chris O'Donnell wasn't bad as Robin; you do get to see his character take form. And finally, Val Kilmer...all I can say is, this movie makes you beg for Michael Keaton back as Batman. I couldn't tell if Val Kilmer was bored in this role or didn't want to be there. This is a very weak installment of the series, & hopefully the new 'Batman' movie in 2003 will be better. At least Joel Schumaker isn't doing the films anymore.

Judge Dredd (1995)

Fun action-book movie
2 January 2002
This movie got blasted hard by critics, when it shouldn't have. Like the 'Superman' & 'Batman' movies, well the first 2 'Batman' movies, this is a movie based off of a comic book & is pretty good. It has a good balance of action & comedy. Sly Stallone plays Judge Dredd, in the future where the law id held in the hands of The Judges, who act as the police, jury & judge. Dredd is set up for murder...with him away, a plan is devised to let chaos run throughout the city. Fans of Stallone will love the movie. If you aren't a huge fan, give it a chance; just leave the common sense at the door & have a good time.

Funny Sci-Fi flick
2 January 2002
Stallone doesn't get much respect for his comedy, but he shines in this movie. A great balance of comedy & action make this one great movie. When set up for a crime he didn't commit, officer John Spartan(Stallone) is imprisoned in a cryongenic frozen state. He is released 36 years later when arch-nemesis Simon Phoenix(Wesley Snipes) escapes. Spartan has to deal with his new surroundings...a world which is erased of violence, sex, bad language & fast food. Action, comedy & a great cast make this one fun movie.

One Hunka-Hunka-Hunka great movie!
5 December 2001
Now, first things first...why is this movie getting bad reviews? It does what it originally set out to do..to make a fun action movie & not apologizing for it. The movie is simple...5 guys get together & disguise themselves as Elvis impersonators so they can rob a Vegas casino. Of course everything that was planned, goes awry, & it gets crazy after that. The movie offers lots of action, & even a few laughs. After Murphy(Costner) tries to double cross everyone after the heist, the film starts taking twists & turns. Michael(Russell) realizes what's going on, & decides to take the money & run. But he didn't count on Cybil with a 'C'(Courtney Cox) & her son Jesse to tag along with him. After Murphy realizes what's going on, he chases after his money. Great acting by Kurt Russell & Kevin Costner make the film fun. I recommend seeing it.

Exciting!
5 December 2001
When a couple's(Kurt Russell & Kathleen Quinlen) car breaks down, they accept help by a trucker. The wife takes a ride with the helpful trucker to a nearby truckstop....but never makes it there. What seems like a helpful gesture turns out to be a day from hell. No one will help him...why? Or is it because most of the town know, or know not to talk about it. Great movie, with a terrific job by the always dependable Kurt Russell.

Captain Ron (1992)

Hey Swab...go check out this movie.
5 December 2001
Kurt Russell is one of those actors that can play a variety of roles, & get away with it. Action, drama, & comedy. He must of been thinking of Jack Burton from 'Big Trouble In Little China' & but some of that into this movie. 'Captain Ron' is a great movie! The plot is simple, & so is the movie. That is what make sit so much fun. Yes, most of the movie is translucent, but it works so well. Kurt Russell shines as Capt. Ron Rico, who has been hired by the Harvey family to be the drive their boat from a Carribean Island to Miami, FL. While he bumbles from one scene to the other, Capt. Ron manages to be successful in the end. All of this makes Martin Harvey(Martin Short) furious, while his family loves Capt. Ron. Lots of laughs.

Tango & Cash (1989)

Go check out this fun movie...Pee Wee.
5 December 2001
Oh, this movie has been done soooo many times. Two cops are framed & must clear their names. The cops are rivals of each other. So, why see it? Because, this time around it really works! Plus, the leads by Kurt Russell & Sylvester Stallone have something to do with it too. Tango(Stallone) is a white collar-type cop who cares most in life about looking good & the stock market. Then there's Cash(Russell), who beats down the law in his side of town, with his blue jeans & t-shirts. The two of them are set up, due to their many busts of associates of city drug kingpin Jack Palance. When they are set up of murder, they must work together to bust out of jail & clear their names. Like an earlier comment said, this really is guilty fun!

Gene Hackman carries the movie!
3 December 2001
I'm not too familiar with the story that it's based off of, but the movie isn't bad. When the pilots of a fighter jet on a reconnaissance mission sees something they aren't supposed to, they are shot down 'behind enemy lines'. One pilot is killed, & forces the other to be on the run. It's up to the Navy to get him back safe & sound. Navy Admiral Gene Hackman helps this so-so movie into a great movie. Owen Wilson isn't bad, but Hackman's acting makes this movie great.

My favorite movie of all time!
29 November 2001
This is my favorite movie of all time, & probably one of the best entertaining movie ever. While in Chinatown, a pig trucker Jack Burton(Kurt Russell) accompanies his friend Wang(Dennis Dun) to meet his current wife at an airport. But when she is suddenly kidnapped, Jack is drawn into the underworld of Chinatown, along with all of it's black magic and fantasy. It's great fun. The always great actor Victor Wong, as Egg Shen, is enjoyable here as a wizard accompanying the Jack & Wang in their battle. This is a must see movie!

Probably Stallone's best movie
28 November 2001
This is by far Sylvester Stallone's best movie. This movie got trashes by critics & especially movie fans because Stallone wasn't shooting everyone in sight...he was acting instead! Oh no, acting...how could he. But seriously, Sly gives a very humane side here, which is one of the reasons why the film holds together so well. This is a remake of a Michael Caine movie, who appears in this version as well. When Jack Carter(Stallone)'s brother is murdered, he goes to the funeral & decides to look into the mysterious surroundings. What he finds is a plot of twists & turns & finds so many people are involved. If you are a Sly or just a movie fan, definitely check this movie out! I gave it 9 out of 10 stars.

No gimmicks, just a fun movie
21 November 2001
No big action stars here. Nor any super fantastic effects. Nope, it's just good, clean fun from start to finish. This is one of the reasons why 'Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man' is one of my fav movies. The casting is fine & the movies moves along well. Not to mention a great soundtrack to go along with it. When Harley comes back to town & finds out his favorite bar/hangout is going to close due to not being able to renew the lease, de realizes he has to do something about it. Him & his buddies decide to get the money, but robbing an armored truck. But that's when all the problems begin. Great fun!

Be afraid, very afraid!
19 November 2001
First of all, I'm a huge horror fan. I love Brinke Stevens & Tom Savini. They are 2 of the best in the horror movie genre, but even they can't save this...er, movie. The movie looks like it was shot on a handheld video camera. The quality of the picture is horrible, & many scences jump. Could have been much better if it had some sort of a budget.

The best Freddy sequel yet
29 October 2001
Now, this is one great movie, with an original idea. Some of the actors from the movies series play themselves in the movie, such as John Saxon, Robert Englund, & Heather Langencamp. Wes Craven also plays himself in the movie. The plot: Wes Craven has written a script for the new Freddy movie, but there's a problem...the script has come to life. A very interesting turn in the last installment of the series...or is it? There's still the Jason vs. Freddy movie coming out...but if you are a fan of the Freddy movies, check 'The New Nightmare' out. It's great.

Not bad sequel to the series
29 October 2001
First of all, I don't understand all of the bashing of this movie. I would think that all of the voters had seen the previous 4 movies...if so, they they would see that this movie is like most of them. The 1st movie, was very dark. More violence in it. The latter movies added more characters, & little touches of humor. Plus, there has been some great effects, too. 'A Nightmare On Elm Street~pt. 5' is a good Freddy sequel. His return isn't really discussed, but he comes back anyway. It has a basic plot, like all of the other installment, but here you get to find out some info on Freddy, such as his mom and his birth. Interesting. If you like the Freddy Krueger movie, go see it. You'll like it. Plus watch closely...there's small cameos of rockers Ted Nugent, Eric Singer, & Rudy Sarzo.

Decent entry in the Freddy series
29 October 2001
The movie is simple...Freddy is out to get the last surviving members of the Elm Street children. Like all of the other "Nightmare..." films, people bash the movies, & complain about the plot. It's a horror movie! What do you expect! This movie isn't bad, & has some cool effects to go with it. The character od Nancy Thompson returns to help the new batch of victims defeat Freddy in the 3rd 'Nightmare...' movie. It's entertaining, so sit back, & enjoy.

A great, fun movie! I had a blast!
26 October 2001
Ok...I was all excited waiting for this movie to come out...Why you ask? Mostly because this looked like a great movie, & I was hoping that it would be much better than most horror movies nowadays. Plus when I heard that SFX masters 'KNB' were doing the effects, it had to be great. Disappointed? Not on bit! This was a great movie! The actors were good, the SFX were outstanding, & I had a blast from start to finish. When Arthur finds out his Uncle dies, he receives his life's work...an amazing house. Too good to be true...? You bet. Arthur, his 2 kids, & housekeeper get more than they reckon with...actually 12 extra things. This movie moves nonstop, which makes it alot of fun. Like I stated above, the SFX is what really gets you. It has a creepy feel, & has some scares. You'll jump in your seat with excitement. It's a return to great horror movies, which we have been lacking for quite some time. Go see it...you won't be disappointed!

Shouldn't have happened...
25 October 2001
Now after seeing the first 2 'Wishmaster' movies, I had high expectations for this movie. Apparently, they were too high...what hurts this movie, is that it's a total 360 turn from the first 2 movies. What this movie tries to be is a 'Scream' & a "I Know What You Did Last Summer" movie...which isn't saying too much, since they were mere silly movies, than horror movies. Too many just average actors & no pazzazz to it. Jason Connery as the human form of the Djinn isn't convincing. Andrew Divoff, who played the first Djinn character, was great. Such evilness to him. If you're a fan of the first movies, go see it, but don't expect a horror movie.

A real fun, campy movie
25 October 2001
Now, isn't this how horror movies are supposed to be? If you are as much of a horror fan as myself, you'll agree that new & horror movies in the '90s aren't that good. In fact many of them really stink. Now, what's great about this movie is that it's a return of the B-movie, campy horror movie. The acting isn't bad, the make-up is decent, plus it has actors from the horror-genre which is a plus. That alone brings magic to the film. In the film, a man's girlfriend is murdered. While in angered grief, be agrees to sell his soul to a mysterious man named 'M' in exchange for revenge. But what he gets in return is much more than he expected. Imagine a demon superhero...no? Either could I at first, but it was alot of fun. New genre-actor Andrew Divoff (Wishmaster 1 & 2) plays 'M', who does a great job.

A used plot, but a fun movie
25 October 2001
Yes, there has been many Genie-type movies before, where everything isn't as it seems...but there are some new twists here. New horror actor Andrew Divoff gives a great performance as the Djinn, the evil genie. The Djinn is trapped in a jewel, & is accidentally released. Due to this, the Djinn tracks down the person who released him, to offer 3 wishes. Of course along the way, people get bothersome to him, & away they go! It's a nice return to horror writer/director Wes Craven who produced those horrid 'Scream' movies. As a bonus, you get to see many faces of horror greats such as: Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger),Tom Savini (SPX master), Kane Hodder(Jason Vorhees), & Tony Todd (Candyman) to name a few. It's a fun movie, so make sure you take it for what it is.
